15 An Encounter

At school, Jamie was currently staring at the vacant seat beside her. Mira had been absent for two days. She sighed, worrying.

Somebody sat on her desk, she looked up to see that it was Kang Jun.

"How's Mira?" He asked before chugging his drink.

"I called her but it was her mother who answered. She still has fever."

"Maybe they should bring her to the hospital. It might be something serious."

Jamie sighed. "Im worried too. I'll visit her after school."

"Eugine, do you want to go on karaoke with us afterschool?"

Both Kang Jun and Mira turned around to the source of the voice. They saw some of their classmates, mostly girls, inviting the transfer student.

Eugine Han immediately give a cold but polite answer. "Sorry. Im not free."

His quick and cold answer made the atmosphere awkward. The girl who asked him didn't know what to do.

"I-is that right? I see. Okay." She could only leave in embarrassment.

"Tsk. Tsk. He's quiet cold. He rejected everyone who asked him out."

Jamie scrutinize Eugine. She narrowed her eyes and fell into a deep thought. Kang Jun saw this.

"Hey, why are you intensely looking at him like that? Don't tell me you like him?"

Kang Jun was looking at her incredulously. His lips that is red because of the cold drink was slightly agape. He looks so adorable that one girl who was staring at him sighed in wonder.

Unfortunately, Jamie only found it annoying. She rolled her eyes. "What are you talking about? Are you tired of living?!"

Kang Jun moved out of Jamie's reach instinctively. He grinned at her. "I was just asking."

"Get lost."

After school, Jamie decided to buy some fruits before going to Mira's house. Its a common gesture to bring some fruits when you are visiting the sick as a sign of your wish for them to get better. While choosing fruits, her eyes were drawn towards the yellow round fruits in the corner. She stopped and stared at the fruits before calling the seller.

"Auntie, I'll take 10 pieces of Lemon please."

Over all, Jamie decided to buy some apples and oranges. She also bought some avocado and some mango. Along with the lemons, she thought that its enough. She paid for it but realized the problem later.

Did she buy too much? Its quite heavy.

She gritted her teeth and lifted the eco bag, her arm shaking in protest.

"Maybe I should work out.." She talked to herself. A commotion near the bus station made her stop. She looked curiously pass the people but didnt manage to see anything aside from people's back.

She was too short.

"Poor child. She must be shocked. Its fortunate that she is not hurt."

"I heard that the mother covered her child's body thats why nothing happened to her. Her mother took the brunt of the attack."

All around the place, Jamie could hear the discussion. She frowned and tried to move pass them but the street is full of curious bystander. The woman beside her thought she was there to see what happened and kindly explained to her. "Somebody called 911 because they heard someone screaming inside of one of the apartment. Apparently, the woman and the child there ran away from home. Her husband found her and beat her up. The child kept on screaming thats why the neighbors reported it."

"Ah. I see. That's horrible." Jamie's distaste is clearly written in her face.

"Please give way! Move aside please!"

Jamie stepped aside to give way to the stretcher. She watched as the ambulance drove away. She stood there for a while, then she realized that she should go. She immediately turned around then--

BAAAM! Jamie felt herself bump against something hard. But before she could fall, a hand supported her.

"Thank y--" she stopped and stared at the person who supported her. It was a guy that was wearing an orange uniform.

Her heartbeat pounded irregularly.

"Miss? Miss, are you okay?"

"Huh? Oh. Im fine. Sorry about that." Jamie blinked because her eyes hurts for some reason. She wiped them and realized that she was crying.

She laughed embarrassingly. "What's wrong with me."

She fixed herself and bowed to the guy who helped her. "Thank you and sorry about that."

Before that man can say anything, she turned around and walked away without looking back. She didn't look back, but that man watched her until he could no longer see her...

At the top of the tallest building nearby, a man was sitting at the edge of it, unconcerned. His eyes is looking down at the commotion below.

"Tsk. Fate is truly funny. If something is destined, you will not be able to stop it."

A worker at the nearby building did a double take upon seeing someone sitting at the top of the building. He cleaned his eyeglass before looking again. There was no one there. He realized that he must be tired and imagining things.
