#Chapter One

Kitty loved watching crime shows, and she must've seen situations like the one she was watching a thousand times before. She knew exactly what was going to happen and yet at the same time, she had no idea what would happen, because this was the first time where she was personally involved in something like this.

The men in blue crowded into the narrow doorway, towards the exhausted figure of her father and they laid their hands on him. One of them spouted a string of words that sounded formulaic, and Kitty knew that her father was being read his rights. The man snapped silver handcuffs onto his wrists behind his back and though her father was someone who resisted being controlled with every fibre of his being, he quietly followed the men in blue out to the lawn.

Kitty stepped out of the doorway and found a man standing beside her open front door. "Why are they doing this?" Kitty asked the man.

"You don't know?"

"No," she replied. "Everything happened so quickly, I didn't hear what they were arresting my dad for."

"He's being arrested for having a sexual relationship with a minor. She was his student."

"What? My dad would never - "

Kitty could hear her mother before she saw her. She came barrelling down the hallway towards the front door, her finger pointed fiercely at her husband. "You pig! How dare you cheat on me with some underage girl at your school! I always knew that there was something twisted about you!"

Her father barely regarded her. Kitty looked between the her parents, lost for words. How did things come to this? She always had the impression that she was part of a happy family.

"Now I know what you were doing during all those late nights at school! You fucking asshole!"

"Mom - "

"I've always wondered why we're no longer fucking, so it's because you have a younger woman at your side, ready to suck your dick whenever you want her to!"

The man in blue beside Kitty held a hand out towards her mother. "Ma'am, please calm down."

Her mother turned to him. "Don't fucking tell me what to do." And the man in blue put on a look that appeared to Kitty to be one of understanding. Towards her father, not her mother.

"Alright, James," the men in blue surrounding her father said after they were done speaking to him. "Let's head to the station now."

The man in blue beside Kitty looked at her mother. "Eleanor, we'll come back with updates soon."

"Fuck that, I don't care anymore," she said and retreated into her home.

"Goodbye, young lady," the man said to Kitty and she nodded before she closed the door behind her. Her mother disappeared into her own room and she heard her door locking. Thoughts of what just happened ran through her mind as she settled down on the couch and picked her phone up. There was only one person she could turn to for comfort, and that was Barry, her boyfriend. She texted him and within minutes, he was knocking on her door.

She let him in and they headed towards the dining table. "Thanks for coming, Barry."

"Of course I'd come, I'd do anything for you," he told her with affection in his eyes. "What happened?"

"My dad, he was just arrested."

Surprise shone in his eyes. "What? Why?"

"He was arrested for having sex with his student, who was a minor."

Barry's mouth fell open. "Oh Lord, no way. Really?"

"Yeah."

"Did you know?"

"No, I had no idea. Otherwise, I'd say something. I never expected my dad to do something like this. I know I'm not the one being arrested, but I feel awful and I don't even know why. I feel like I was involved in destroying this girl's life."

"Kitty," Barry said. "You're not to blame. How could you be? You didn't know. And he was the one who made those decisions, not you."

"Thanks," she said. "I needed to hear that."

"I'm here for you, okay?" Barry smiled at her. "I love you, I always have."

Kitty watched as Barry reached a hand out to her to touch her cheek and wipe it, causing her to realise that she had been crying. More tears poured and he pulled her into his embrace and patted her back. She hugged him tightly and wondered what she ever did to deserve such a wonderful boyfriend.

"I love you, Kitty."

She turned her head inwards to his neck and kissed him there, and he pulled away slightly. Covering her mouth in his, she pushed her tongue into his mouth and they parted abruptly. Barry stared down at her with fond eyes and lowered his head to peck her lips with a chaste kiss as he waited for her to repeat his words.

"Thank you, Barry."
