49 Death Of An Alpha

Eloise, Issabella, Maeve, Jordan, Eli, Mateo, Issac, and Atlas stayed close to us. They were tense as they listened for any surprises. We made our way through a bedroom and into a hallway leading deep into the pack house. As soon as we stepped into the hall it was like a wall came down. We could hear war happening further in. The sounds of growling and screams echoed through the halls. Speaking of the halls... The halls were bright and the wall interior was very modern. So they weren't living like cave men. In fact their interior was a lot more expensive then ours. It put our pack house to shame. The amount of living space here doubled our pack's house. This was obvious to us now. Pack Blacktail Growlers aren't going down without a fight.

I underestimated them. I should have known that they lured the vampires into their den. It was obvious from the outside guards. They lured them inside here because there would be an advantage. They knew these halls better and could easily confuse the demons. This was their triumph. This would make the vampires pull back. Especially when Pack Scarlet NightWalkers inexpediently comes in to assist.

I felt thrilled. A new sense of victory was running through my veins.

Yes, they lost people here...

But we would help them make a come- back.

Lamia will have to back out. She will be furious from how much she underestimated us!

The wolf comes out on top tonight, Lamia.

'This way,' Brendon growled as he seemed to have picked up on something the rest of us could not. 'They're that way.'

'How can you tell?' I asked in confusion. With the scents buzzing around us it was hard to navigate unknown halls.

'My wolf Steele knows the way,' he muttered as he took off running in front of us. I was excited as I chased after him. Yes, I'm running into battle... but I have hope to win.

Our presence here will be enough to run off any remaining vampires.

The halls opened up into a balcony hall leading down a carved out slope. The room we opened up into was on the top floor of a three story open floored room. The den. This was obviously where the pack lived and thrived together when in their pack house. Like how we have a ball room they have this. The slope ran down in a spiral around the room. It was steep and would be hard to get down from. We would have to be careful because there was no railing.

From this spot we could see the main battle being taken place at the ground floor. A huge chandelier hung two stories down, each floor being at least ten feet tall. If we fell from this height....

I shook my head. I tried to look down carefully. Wolves fighting for their lives against vampires holding weapons. I tried to find Fang. I wanted to call for him. It was hard sorting through their fur. I couldn't see him.

'Where is he?' I asked Arwen.

'I'm not sure,' she admitted.

Brendon growled. His voice echoing down to them to announce our presence. 'There's still more of them alive, we need back up,' Brendon called to our pack mates waiting outside. His voice echoed loud in our heads.

'Hang in there, we're coming,' my father promised.

Brendon took the first steps down the slope. His determination became known he was going to help Blacktail. This made the rest of us jump in pursuit to follow him.

The average werewolf's size compared to a human was about the size of a dire wolf. But an alpha could max sizes. And, Brendon's size maxed any size of the vampire's shoulders. He must stand at least six feet tall. He was massive. And, an alpha's size would effect the rest of his pack. Most of ours were around four to five feet tall. Quite a big size. It would be a big advantage against the vampires. It's like we were made to kill each other.

Our size let alone made our strength outrageous. And, the vampire's various abilities would make it hard for us in battle but we could match their strength and overtake them just by size. This is why most vampire's came here with those hunter weapons. They were specially made... to kill our kind. Infused with wolfbane they would ensure our wounds would be hard to heal and when it gets into our blood stream we become weaker. Some wolves may not be able to shift back while infected with wolfsbane.

It's why Mal will be useless to us until it's out of his system. Not that he was much of a fighter to begin with. He sucked. But, It makes me want to protect him even more.

'Avoid the blades,' I thought to the pack. I felt uneasy. The battle was so thick and crowded at the bottom.

"DRAW BACK!" I heard a man's voice shout. It came from the vampire's side. "DRAW BACK!" I couldn't recognize his voice. So, he wasn't my brother- Niall. Was Niall even here? I watched as the vampires became distracted. They were messing up and the wolves from Blacktail began to overtake a few.

'Kill any you can get a hold of,' Brendon thought to us. There was only one recognizable way out and we were standing in the way. The vampires noticed that as well and I could tell they weren't pleased.

As the man commanded, the vampire's started to head our way. They were cloaked individuals in browns, reds, and black. It looked like they prepared to battle until dawn. Outside, the full moon was growing over our heads. Giving us, a huge advantage. The moonlight would give us mental ease. It would feel like the moon goddess herself was here fighting.

Brendon leapt as a vampire came into our reach. The woman had a sword and Brendon went straight for her arm as he took her down. They rolled and knocked over vampires rushing towards us. Making the rest tumble. I felt my pack brush by me.

'Alpha,' one shouted.

'Protect our Luna, Atlas.' I recognized Atlas step in front of me on guard. The rest of our pack mates made sure to reach Brendon and provide back up. Brendon managed to kill the female vampire during the tumble. And, the vampires hissed at us for being in the way.

'No one lives,' Brendon growled at the pack mates. My heart raced as I watched my pack mates pounce at any vampire that tried to slip past them. We can't let them go. Lamia has to know she lost here. We are not weak.

'Atlas, we have to help them,' I warned.

'Luna, we should have left you at home,' Atlas told me. 'This is not a place for you.' I tried to slip past him but he blocked me.

'Atlas,' I growled. 'MOVE!' I warned as I looked past him at the vampires. I want...

I want a taste.

I felt my mouth water as I looked at their frail bodies. They were malnourished. I had a faint feeling they were turned to die in battle for Lamia. They use to be humans... Now they're craving blood and war. I looked around for the voice that was commanding them. Who- who told them to retreat? Who is it... who is it?

My eyes landed on the only unhooded being in the room. Not a wolf. No- he doesn't look like these bloodsuckers. Was he even a vampire? It was an older looking man in a ripped butler's uniform. The buttons had Lamia's initials on it. He works for her. He must be leading this battle. This man was bald with a gray beard. He held onto a black metal scythe. He looked like a grim reaper somehow. He scared me. I watched as he held up against five wolves that tried to attack him together. He swung the blade and I watched as it cut into and injured the wolves severely.

"RETREAT!" The man yelled. "OR DIE HERE ALONE!" He called out. His eyes looked towards the slope. That's when our eyes locked together. He smirked and I knew then... I was his next target. He started for the slope. My eyes looked towards my pack mates to see they were managing to hold back the vampires trying for the exit.

'Atlas,' I gave a warning tone.

'I'm not moving, Luna,' he shouted at me.

'MOVE!' I warned in worry. I shoved my head into his back and made him fall over. He tumbled down the slope and barked in alarm. 'BRENDON!' I shouted. 'THEIR LEADER,' I warned as I ran down the slope. I was more worried they were too distracted to notice that man coming for us. Brendon snapped his head from me to where I was looking. Brendon caught onto the man coming our way.

'RECKLAS,' Atlas growled at me as I caught up to him at the bottom. We were with the rest of our pack mates now. 'Shove me like that again,' he warned in a tone but froze up when he noticed I barely paid him any attention. He looked towards our alpha.

Brendon took on the man. His large stature crashed into the blade and bit down into it. He was like a wolf. His head shaking as he budged the scythe free from the man's grip. I heard the howl of my dad as he entered from the top floor. The rest of our pack is here! My heart skipped a beat. We're winning. I watched as Brendon took the blade from the man and as soon as it was free he spit it to free up his mouth.

I howled in triumph as I watched Brendon ready to deliver a death blow on the weaponless man. I looked behind them as I noticed a wolf creeping up behind the gray man. Like he was ready to kill him too. Is that the- alpha? I never met the Blacktail alpha before. I don't even know what he looks like. Where is Mal's mom? She's supposed to be here too... probably being protected somewhere safe. She is a luna. Not many Luna's make it onto a battle field.

I caught my breath.

I couldn't explain it. The man's arm transformed into a blade similar to the scythe. He raised his arm and cut across Brendon's chest. The wolf from behind leapt up suddenly and aimed directly at the man's head. About to deliver a death blow. Two vampires teleported in on both sides on the man and grabbed him before teleporting away. I growled as I rushed for Brendon's side. 'BRENDON!' I shouted. The wolf I saw from earlier transformed into a human and caught Brendon before he could fall.

This man wasn't Fang, unfortunately. And, I didn't recognize him. He held Brendon close in safety. It seemed like as soon as that man was gone the wolves from both our packs broke out into war with the remaining vampire. Forcing some to disappear all together or die at our teeth.

I made it to Brendon's side as he was forced to transform human. He looked up at me in pain and reached out to rub my head. I transformed human and looked over his wound. He took a deep cut to the chest. "Brendon," I blurted out in tears. I didn't know... This could happen.

'The wound is too deep to heal on its own,' Arwen told me. 'This is going to be his last moon.'

"Brendon," I bit through my tongue as I forced the tears to stop to try to talk to him clearly. "You can't... die now." I gripped his shoulders as I glared him down.

He didn't even kill the other man.

It's not fair! I looked straight into the man's eyes that was holding Brendon. Who is this guy? I growled protectively for Brendon.

"My apologies," He said as his eyes held sorrows of his own. "It's okay. I'm Alpha Aaragorn of Blacktail Growlers."
