1 The Beginning

I walk through the streets of the small city I've been living in for the past couple of years. Yesterday I turned 12. It's still bizarre to me that I was transported to another world after I finished high school.

I live in what could be described as a world of magic, kingdoms, and monsters. You know one of those worlds from isekai mangas or the lord of the rings books.

I'm currently trying to find some potatoes and boar meat that my mom sent to get. Well, I was supposed to find these ingredients with my dad. But I lost him. So, I'm not only trying to find potatoes but also my dad.

Fuck me! She said to find a red wooden stand with an old man with a blond beard who's supposed to give me them at a discount.

But I can't find him, there isn't a red stand in sight. You know I thought that living in the Middle Ages would have been boring. Since I don't have any modern-day technology like phones and computers.

But to be honest I'm pretty happy that I'm living in a world of magic. I'm kind of grateful that I was transported from my boring world to this world where I can basically do anything I want. Ah fuck, I just stepped in a puddle.

Come on man, my mom just made these boots. She's going to kill me. Why the hell is there even a puddle in the middle of street. It's the middle of the summer. There has been no rain for the last 3 weeks.

I touch the bottom of my boot. It's blood.

I looked over to my left to see a butcher's stand. Don't tell me this old man is throwing cow blood onto the street. I walk into the shop. He's sitting there smoking a pipe filled with tobacco.

"Old man" I say to him. "Hm" He looks down at me, "What do you want kid?" He says through the tobacco smoke. "Did you come to pick up something?" He continues.

"No, you -" I got to calm down I maybe a grown adult, but I have to remember that I'm cosplaying as a 12 year old boy. "No, sir I stepped in the blood you threw into the street" I said calmly. Blood?" He looked at me confused.

He stands up and looks over his stall. A couple of feet next to the stall there is a puddle of blood. "What? JAQUES!" He screams. He runs out of his stall. I follow him. He's walking toward some other stall I'm guessing.

I follow him as I spot a red stall. I'm guessing this the stall I was supposed to buy the potatoes at. He walks over to the stall and slams his hands on it. "Jaques, I told you to stop throwing your cow blood in the middle of the street." He says in a fit of anger.

"It's throwing off my customers. I'm losing money because of you" He yells at Jaques. If I had to describe Jaques he has large blond beard and short black hair. He's around 6 feet tall (183cm), he's big, but not in a muscular way but in a fat way.

I don't understand how he made his beard and hair two different colors. Especially, in the Middle Ages. I guess there is some sort of magic that can change the colors of your hair.

"I didn't do that" he says convincingly. " Don't lie to me you horse bollocks. I know what you're trying to do" He pauses " It wasn't you was it" he says confused.

"I told you it wasn't me" he tells him. "It must have been your no-good merchant brother" He yells. Horse bollocks? I'm assuming that's some type of insult in this world. Anyway, the old man storms into the house behind Jaques.

"What are you here for kid?" He says to me.

" My mommy told me that I could get some meat and potatoes cheap here." I tell him while flexing my puppy eyes. He tries to say something, but I interrupt him. Like the little shit I am.

"Kathy that's my mommy's name" I interrupt. His faces light up. He recognized my mom's name.

"You're Kathy's son?" He says with delight. " Yes " I tell him while still flexing my puppy dog eyes. " I was just about to tell you off. But I didn't know you were Kathy's son" He grabs a piece of meat and starts doing some kind of magic on it.

The meat doesn't change physically but I'm assuming he did something to freshen it up or something. It's weird, in this world there are no magic runes like in those books I read. The magic just kind of gathers in the user hand and then he uses it as he wills.

From what I have been told. Magic is everywhere around us, and a lot of people are able to use magic. But of course, commoners like me and Jaques are only able to do basic housekeeping magic, farming magic etc. In this country there seems to be a divide between the commoners and the nobles.

But It's not like a normal divide between the rich and the poor. Nobles in this country don't allow commoners to use any type of attack magic or deadly magic or magic that could somehow rub the nobles in the wrong way. If you are caught using this magic, you will be arrested and sentenced to a labor camp. Of course, there are exceptions, commoners that join the military or serve a noble are able to use attack magic.

Another thing my dad told me was that magic is passed from generation to generation for commoners. We only have a certain set of magic that we can use. That was taught to us.

If you want to learn real magic, you'll have to go a magic academy. "Did you learn that magic at a magic academy" I say. He laughs at me and says " No, I learned it from my father" he says

"Commoners aren't allowed into magic academy" He continues. "Not even the talented ones?" I say". "Not even the talented ones" he says as he finishes using the magic on the meat. "What If someone wanted to learn magic? What should they do?" I ask.

"Do you have a bag" He asks me. " Yeah, here" I say and give him a bag made of leather. He starts throwing potatoes in it.

"If you wanted to learn to magic, other than housework magic you can either go to another country where they allow commoners to attend magic academy's or you can join the military, they will teach you basic fighting magic and teach you how to use weapons" he says.

" Or maybe you can catch the eye of the new Mistress." He continues. " Mistress?" I question. "Yeah" he says while stuffing my bag with meat. "The old man that governed this city died a month ago and the Earl replaced him with his oldest daughter, I guess this is a way for her to learn how to handle power, because she'll probably be next head of the Rusan family, and she'll probably be the next earl."

"And what about magic?" I ask.

"Oh yeah, usually the Viscounts and Mistresses of certain cities find young mana blessed commoners and train them to serve their family. They teach them magic that isn't normally available to commoners." He says.

"And If you want to catch her eye, you'll need to prove yourself to her and her advisor" He continues.

"How do I do that" I ask. "I don't know kid, probably just show that you have a talent for magic" he says. "Anyway, here's your bag". I pull out my coin purse. "How much" I ask. " 6 bronze coins" He answers. I put 6 bronze coins on his stall and grab my bag.

"Ok, thank you, Bye" I wave to him and run off. I guess my current plan for moving up in the world is to catch the eye of the new Mistress. I'm assuming a Mistress is like the female version of the Viscount noble title.

I'll ask my dad how to show her I got talent. Plus, I'll just go to the local library and research what I can. Oh yeah, I didn't say this earlier, but it looks like everybody speaks and writes in English. I don't know why but I'm not complaining that I don't have to learn another language.

Now, I have to find my dad and somehow become somebody with talent for magic. When it comes to magic, my mom only taught me the basics of housework magic.

From what I learned there are two types of magic. Inner and Outer magic. Inner magic affects your body, like you get stronger or faster or whatever else, it's like a buff. While outer magic affects other people or objects. For example, If I shoot a lightning bolt at somebody, that would be considered outer magic.

More complicated magic takes some kind world play or spell casting, but for basic magic you just have to focus very hard on what you want to do until you feel the magic.

Anyway, that's all I know about magic. "Leonard my boy" Somebody yells. I turn my head around to see my dad. A man in his 30s with a clean shaven face and short hair. He looks out of breath.

"I found you, finally" he says. "Where did you run off to?" He continues. "I didn't run off, you walked too fast, and I lost you" I answer. "Next time hold my hand, I've been running all around the city trying to find you, you got the potatoes and meat" He notices.

"I did" I say. "Great, you're a good boy let's go back to the shop, by this time I'll have some clients waiting for me" he says. "And don't tell your mother that I lost you, she'll kill me" He continues

"I won't" I say. He grabs my hand, and we walk back to the shop. To be honest our city's pretty small, it's 90% made of commoners and lower nobles. There isn't even a real magic academy only normal schools, well even if there was a magic academy, I wouldn't be let in.

We finally reach our shop; my dad runs a carpenter's shop. We live in a two-story house. On the first story there is my dad's shop and on the second one is where we eat, sleep and shit. I'm an only kid, which is surprising since everybody around me has at least 3 kids.

I guess my dad knows when to pull out. I don't know whether condoms exist, but I doubt it. I'm assuming there is some cum removing magic or something. Anyway, we enter the house. There are a couple of people standing in the shop talking to my mother.

My mom's normal looking woman , in her thirty's, long black hair, semi big boobies. I don't know how to feel about my parents, I mean I guess I love them? I miss my real parents sometimes. In the lonely hours of the night when everybody else is asleep I think about my past life.

I don't know how to feel about being transported in another world, I mean love the fact that I'm able to restart my life, and that I live in a fantasy world is also great, but I still miss my friends, my family you know. I also very much miss my phone. In my old world I was just a normal person that used to blend into the crowd but here I can be anything even a king.

In the first years of my life in this world, it was very hard for me to adapt. I spent a lot of time thinking about my past life. Anyway, there is no point in crying about spilled milk. What happened, happened. I can't return to my world for now. I don't even know whether there is a way back to my world.

Anyway, I don't have anything to do. My mom and dad are talking to some customers. I should go to the library to research magic. "Mom, can I go to the library?" I ask. "Oh, sorry baby I wish we could take you, but mommy and daddy are very busy, maybe some other time" She replies.

"Ohohho you're such a smart kid, at your age already going to the library" A customer interrupts. "Yeah, he is, if only he cared about school as much as he does about books" my dad says. In my defense we're being taught to read and write and some other stuff, that's elementary level. Of course, I would be bored.

"Dad I can go alone I'm 12 now. And plus, there are no criminals in the city" I argue. "There are you just haven't met them yet, what if they kidnap you" He argues back. " Where in the library?" I say sarcastically.

All the customers in the store start laughing "Come on Jason let him go, there are rarely any criminals in the city, plus the library's not that far from here" A customer argues. " I guess you can go just be home by nightfall" My dad finally obliges.

"Thanks!" I yell as I run out the door. We live in a small, protected city, there are little to no criminals. Plus, I have a brain of an adult. Even if somebody attacked me, I could escape the attack.

As I run through the streets, I finally reach the library. It's not much of a library. It's just a large house with books in it. I mean that's what every library is.

Anyway, I enter the library, there is an old lady sitting at the receptionist desk reading some kind of book. "Hello, Ms. Baker" I say. "Is that you Leonard?" She answers while looking up. "Yes, Miss Baker" I answer. "What are you looking for" she says while standing up. She walks up to me.

"I'm looking for books about magic" I say. "Oh, what for" she says as she walks into the maze of shelves filled with books. I follow her. "I'm trying to learn some magic so I can impress the new Mistress, so she'll take me under her wing" I say.

"Really?" She says while looking at some books. " Yeah, If I learn under her I'll be able to earn more money in the future for my parents" I say. " You're such a good kid Leonard, I wish my grandkids were as good as you" she says as she puts three books in my arms.

"Thank you" I answer, " There is a table and a chair at the east end of the library you can go read there" she says. "Thank you" I answer as I walk over to the east end. I find the table and the chair.

I put down my books on the table and sit in the chair. I open one of the books. This is weird. The pages are printed. Wait a minute. I open another book. This one is written. It looks like in this world I'm in the middle of the transition from handwritten books to printed ones.

But it's still too early, isn't it? I mean I don't know much about history but from what I saw in this world we are still in the Middle Ages. I don't know. Maybe they have some kind of printing magic.

Another thing for a printed book to end up in a small city in a small library printing books must be normal. Never mind, I'll think about this later. I must learn magic.

I look at the one books "The basics of magic" is written on the front page. I grab it and start reading it. I spent I don't know how long reading, but before I realized it was already dusk. I close the book and stack them neatly on the table.

I run up to Ms. Baker. "Ms. Baker I have to go now, but I'll return in the morning so don't move those books" I say. "I won't, you get home before your parents get mad." She replies.

"Ok, thank you, Bye" I say as I run out the door. I run through the streets of my city gunning for my home. It was a bust to be honest, the books were filled mostly with just magic history and stuff like that.

There were no spells, or something that could impress the Mistress, but I learned something useful. I read that in this world meditation is used as a way to train your core and mana flow and other useful stuff. You see, mana is all around us.

So, to use mana we need to like to eat it, you know take it into ourselves and this man is stored in the core which basically like the heart but for mana. Meaning that mana we take from the outside enters the core and then it circulates through mana tunnels, which are basically veins but for mana.

They circulate there until they are used i.e., magic. And that's about all I learned. Oh, and also there is a limit how much mana your core can handle at one time, and you train your core through meditation I'm assuming, it didn't specify but that's the conclusion that I reached.

Finally, I reach my house. I enter the shop "Hey Dad" I say to him as he stands over the counter writing something " Oh hey, go upstairs your mom just finished dinner I think" Her reply's. I run up the stairs.

My house is pretty nice, it is like 90% made of wood. I have my own room which is great. My parents have their room, and we have a kitchen, and something that I'm not a big fan is that the toilet is outside. We're pretty poor but compared to some other kids around the block we are also pretty rich.

My mom does the housework while my dad operates the shop. Anyway, I run up to the dinner table, Mom already made food, so I jumped on my chair and started eating. The foods pretty shit a lot of the time we're only eating meat and vegetables in a soup. And there are no spices, so I have to eat bland food all the time. There isn't even salt.

Anyway, after I finish eating this. I'll go to bed. I'll see what'll do tomorrow.
