2 Chapter 2

After the register period, they all walked to their first period, which was math. Nikki had left her book on her desk in class and had to turn back.

"I'll take your bag with me," Christy suggested.

Nikki gladly gave her heavy bag. Their school didn't have lockers. Most schools didn't. Some teachers were nice enough to share the shelves in their classroom with the students to help reduce the weight. Almost all the students could be seen carrying heavy school backpacks filled with books, but they were used to the weight by now.

After Nikki got her book, she walked back to the math class. Mr. Samuel was usually late on most days, and she hoped today was one of those days.

She turned down the path to the class and bumped into someone. They both lost balance and before she knew it, she was on the ground, with that someone on top of her. The other students walking around them stopped to see what was happening.

She stared up to see brown eyes looking down on her.

A boy was laying on top of her, staring down at her underneath him, with no sign of wanting to get off.

"Uh...could you move? You're crushing my ribs," she blatantly said.

"Ah, Sorry," the person quickly moves off her and helps her up.

"Ow, that hurts," Nikki groans as her head throbs from the fall.

She look up to find the guy staring back at her with concern. He was taller than her, which she immediately notices, and had a somewhat attractive face. The dark brown eyes locks her to them, which create an almost intimate stare off between them. Her heart jumps slightly which confuses her. She assumes it's just the events that caused it to do that and decided to think nothing more of it.

She looked away, noticed the students had stopped to look at them in interest to see what was happening and dusted off her uniform to leave. It must have come across to him as her being shy, to which he lightly chuckled. She stopped and looked back to see him smirking down at her.

She thought nothing more of it, though is confused her and picked up her book from the ground.

"Excuse me," she said and walked away to class.

'Bumps into me and smirks?Weirdo.' She sighed. 'But who am I to judge?'

By lunch, she had forgotten about the incident. She walked with Helena as they went to buy snacks for both them and Sofia and Christy from the street vender that sold food at the school fence. The school tuckshop was forever full and always had the highest of prices.

"Did you finish the essay? We have English after this," she asked Helena.

"Yeah, I did it in math, luckily. You?"

"I did it last night, around midnight to one I think."

"I think I was asleep by then."

"I think I'm an insomniac these days." Nikki said as she gave the street vender the money for their food.

"Exams are coming. Everyone is stressing."

"You ready for them?"

"Not yet. Kinda hard to study when your house is literally a bar." Helena said as they walked back to the others at their hangout spot.

"Thought you were moving to your aunt's house for the exam period."

"I am, but she's traveling for a while and will be back in two weeks. I have to wait till she returns."

Nikki nodded in response. Helena lived with her little brother and her mom, who had her house right behind her bar, while her dad worked in one of the coastal towns. She would sometimes temporarily live with her aunt during the exam period due to the quiet area and the shorter distance from school.

"What are your plans for this December?" Nikki asked as they near the spot. They could already hear their other two friends' voices, even in the noisy school during break.

"I'm thinking of visiting my dad, but I'm still deciding. I might just end up staying at home for the holiday."

"Just go and enjoy the beach. I would, cause I really don't want to get sunburn from all the farm work in the north."

"But you still have the wedding you're attending."

"Weddings are great and all, but they are a lot of work," she said as they reached they others.

"Are you going to the wedding too, Sofia?" Helena asked as she handed them their food

"Yeah. Yesterday we went to get our measurements done for the dresses."

"How do they look like?" Christy asked as she chews on her chips.

"We haven't seen them yet," Nikki replied .

Sofia turned excitedly to Christy. "So what happened with James?"

The other two girls smilingly turned to Christy at the sound of the question.

"Well," Christy began, "after school yesterday, I was cleaning the classroom with Brenda and Jonathan yesterday, when he hurriedly came in asking to talk to me. He told me he'd wait outside while I finish. I was kinda surprised, I mean we've spoken before, but the way he was acting was just out of the blue. When I was done, we spoke in the classroom when the others left. He told me that he actually liked me and wanted to know if I feel the same way."

"Do you like him? " Helena asked.

"No, I don't. He thinks so highly of himself-"

"Like narcissistic?" Nikki asked.

"Yeah, and once when we were talking about dating and stuff, he told me he didn't like dating just one girl. Like how does he tell me this and then decides to ask me out?"

"So you rejected him?" Helena asked.

"Yeah, but the guy kept going on, saying that he only likes me, and he'll do anything for me. He kept saying it in a desperate way, like he was in a hurry or something. When I tried to walk away, he got angry and told me I'll regret it and walked out."

"So he's threatening you cause you rejected him? Why do some boys do that? Seriously, what a joke," Nikki said.

"It doesn't even end there. He started texting me insults last night. I had to block him. He's becoming so annoying," Christy said with an annoyed look on her face.

"Wow, the nerve," Sofia said.

"Next time I see him... I don't even know what I'll do."

"Just ignore him. He's just like that cause his stupid pride was hurt. Probably not used to rejection," Helena said.

The other girls nodded in agreement and continued talking and eating before the bell rings.

"Let's go, we've got english now," Helena said as they stood up.

"Shit!" Christy shouted in realisation . "I didn't finish the essay."

"I bet Ms. Benson isn't in class yet. You could go finish it now before she arrives," Helena suggested.

"True. C'mon, hurry," she said as she ran to class with the other hurriedly walking behind her.
