"Remember to clean off your makeup, or else poor Steward Tang would be shocked to death." Ming Lu reminded. They were now on their way back to the mansion after Professor Ye's seminar was canceled.

Bai Ruoxi rolled her eyes as she took out some cotton and makeup remover, "You're exaggerating it."

After a few more minutes of driving, the car finally stopped. The door was opened and Bai Ruoxi gracefully stepped out.

"Welcome home, Young Miss."

An old butler greeted Bai Ruoxi when she arrived, but the latter detected that something was wrong. Steward Tang had been working for the Bai Family since her grandfather founded Bai & Li enterprise and took care of Bai Ruoxi as well when she was young. She knew that Steward Tang always had a calm and seemingly distant demeanor, but today he looked troubled.

"Who's in there?" Bai Ruoxi immediately asked. Someone must have come and created trouble while she was out.

"It's... Madam's younger sister, Xu Linlang and her daughter, Peng Xinya."

Bai Ruoxi raised a brow. She didn't know why, but she could smell trouble coming soon.

"Is my mother home?"

"No."

With a frown on her forehead, Bai Ruoxi walked into the living room. She could hear the faint sobbing of a woman, or maybe two. They were both seated across Bai Shizhen who had his poker face on, but Bai Ruoxi could tell that he was begging for her help soon as she walked in.

"Father." She walked towards him and sat down. "Aunt Linlang, Cousin Xinya."

Both of the women didn't reply to her but kept on sobbing on each others' shoulder. Bai Ruoxi was about to get annoyed when Xu Linlang raised her head, a suspicious glint passed through her eyes. Bai Ruoxi keen sight didn't miss it.

Oh? Bai Ruoxi had watched enough drama to know what's happening. They must have asked Bai Shizhen to do them a favor for whatever miserable reasons. Her father had either rejected them or told them to wait for Xu Liluo, and that's why they started crying.

Well, it's just Bai Ruoxi's own assumption.

As if sensing his daughter's speculations towards their current condition, Bai Shizhen slightly nodded his head towards Bai Ruoxi to confirm her thoughts. The latter then snorted.

'This is so not creative.' She sighed.

After waiting for a few minutes in awkward silence and occasional sobbing, the mother-daughter pair finally stopped crying. Their eyes were swollen and they looked messy.

"Can you now tell me what's happening, Aunt Linlang?"

"Your... your uncle," she said painfully. "He brought his mistress home and kicked us out of the house!"

Hearing her mother's words, Peng Xinya then started sobbing again.

Bai Ruoxi raised an eyebrow. Peng Zhenya had an affair? Bai Ruoxi knew each and every person who was somehow related to the Bai Family like the back of her hand, she had done thorough research before. And according to her investigation, Peng Zhenya wasn't the type of person who would cheat. Moreover to kick out his wife and daughter.

The man was timid and very polite. Although Peng Zhenya had married Xu Linlang out of convenience, he swore to not mess around outside. Even if he did, it didn't seem like he would dare bring his mistress home.

Bai Ruoxi might be mistaken and Xu Linlang could actually be telling the truth. But what were the chances for her reports to be wrong? Slim. Xu Liluo didn't hate Xu Linlang for no reason.

The woman across her was a sly vixen. Back in the days, she had brainwashed the Xu's to hate Xu Liluo and drove her out of the house. Bai Ruoxi's mother who was still young and naive had been forced to live like a beggar for months. It was only after she found a job as a waitress and met Bai Shizhen that her life became bearable.

When they found out that Xu Liluo was lifting her name in the fashion industry and engaged to Bai Shizhen, those people who went knocking on her door were the same as those who had insulted and kicked her out. Thinking that they had changed, Xu Liluo accepted them. But who knew that they could actually be so thick skinned and even acted arrogantly using the Bai's name.

Xu Liluo was enraged, but alas, they were still her family. Xu Liluo chose to be merciful. She had only cut every tie she had with them and continued to fully support the Bai's.

Bai Ruoxi believed that she shouldn't trust Xu Linlang. Regarding Peng Zhenya... she would ask someone to investigate this matter later on.

"Yes, and what does being kicked out of the house has anything to do with us?" Bai Ruoxi asked with a smile.

Bai Shizhen and Steward Tang looked astonished by her reply, however, the other two who were sitting across Bai Ruoxi seemed shocked and angry.

Peng Xinya gritted her teeth, subduing the urge to launch forwards and claw off that smug on Bai Ruoxi's face. But she didn't let anger get the best of her. Peng Xinya continued to act pitifully and let her tears fell.

"Uncle, Cousin, please let us stay for a few days..." she begged.

"Hmm," Bai Ruoxi hummed and leaned on the sofa. "I don't know about that, Cousin. My father and I don't get to make decisions here. It all depends on my mother."

Xu Linlang became agitated. Xu Liluo hated the Xu Family and her, why would she let Xu Linlang and her daughter stay?

"Brother Zhen," she pleaded towards Bai Shizhen who shuddered towards the way he was called. "A few days is fine. We will find our own place after that."

Bai Ruoxi chuckled when she noticed the disgust in her father's eyes as he refused to even look at Xu Linlang. It was as if a mere glance towards that vixen would tarnish his integrity.

"Why not immediately find your own place right now, Aunt Linlang?" Bai Ruoxi answered and then pretended to be shocked. Her eyes were full of pity. "Could it be that you don't have any money?"

"What? No, no. It's not--"

"Steward Tang, bring me my checkbook."

Steward Tang who was still astonished by his young miss immediately straightened his back. "Yes, Young Miss."

Peng Xinya couldn't contain her anger anymore. She immediately stood up and hit her palm onto the table. "Are you looking down on us?!"

'How easily angered. Not fun at all.' Bai Ruoxi shook her head in disappointment.

"My, my, Cousin, why are you angry?" It was Bai Ruoxi's turn to act pitiful. "Didn't you come to our house and begged to stay? I... I thought..."

She then started to sob and pressed her head into Bai Shizhen's chest. The latter was in shock for the first few seconds but then immediately joined his daughter's act while inwardly praising her.
