Friends

'Did...did I just dig my own grave?'

Why did it look like not only had she failed to shake Jun Yihan off, but also fell into his trap? Wasn't it her who laid the trap? How did the table get turned so easily?

Furthermore, just look at his goddamn smirk! His eyes alone were screaming triumph as though to tease her. Jun Yihan looked no different than a maiden who had just won his crush's favor through some kind of underhanded tricks.

Blacklines emerged on Bai Ruoxi's forehead as she tried to digest the current situation she was in. Needless to say, she was on the unfavorable end. Oh, the headache...

She could already imagine her father and grandfather's livid expressions when they knew she had blabbered such nonsense to Jun Yihan.

Gay? For god sake, only a dead person wouldn't know how fiercely she had loved her ex-fiance.

Speaking of Gu Yin...

Bai Ruoxi raised her head a little and glanced at Jun Yihan.

It was ridiculous, but Bai Ruoxi just couldn't comprehend this feeling of familiarity she was getting from Jun Yihan. Although he had denied her question regarding their acquaintance, she knew there was other to it. She wanted to know more.

Bai Ruoxi took the initiative to move Jun Yihan's hand away from her waist and put a distance on their previously too close bodies. She missed the glint of pain flashing through his eyes that disappeared as soon as it came. The man wanted to say close to her for a while longer but he understood that he couldn't force her or demand more.

Jun Yihan let her go and watched as she stood awkwardly in front of him. The sight triggered a thin smile to bloom on his lips and turned his eyes to glow in a warm radiance.

"I do not wish for you to be uncomfortable with me, Ruoxi." Jun Yihan lifted his hand and slipped a few loose hair strands to the back of her ear. "I hope for us to be friends."

Friends?

Bai Ruoxi raised her eyes and looked at the man before her. His expression was sincere and deprived of any malice.

The heir to the most powerful clan in the underworld... wanted to be her friend?

Seeing that Bai Ruoxi chose to keep her silence, Jun Yihan cleared his throat awkwardly. "If it's too much for you, I wouldn't mind the term colleagues."

"Oh, no, it's just that..." It's just that she hadn't had any 'friends' for years.

Coming from the upper-class society, Bai Ruoxi knew how harsh and cruel the elite circles truly were. Your so-called 'friends' wouldn't think twice before talking sh*ts behind your back and would betray each other without batting an eye. You had to be cunning and able to exploit any kind of merits there were. Because in the end, it all came down to survival of the fittest.

Bai Ruoxi understood it better than anyone else as she was once apart of it. She had been the queen bee, malicious and sinister. She used her 'friends' like pawns that could easily be replaced and acted like a princess who ruled everything because technically, she did.

There were a total of five families who were considered to be the most powerful and prominent in Imperial City, namely Dongfang, Jun, Ren, Bai, and Yu.

Dongfang was a military family whose roots ran deep with power second to none. Their histories could be traced back to centuries ago and they played a big role in the governments even now.

Jun and Ren, as we all knew, belonged to the underworld. They had eyes and limbs hidden everywhere and their influences on the surface were also not to be taken lightly.

The Bai Family's Bai & Li Enterprise was one of the biggest company in the country and even abroad, thus earning them an honorable title.

Lastly, the family full of medical geniuses, the Yu Family. They were a bunch of top tier doctors who could make the impossible possible.

During her younger days, Bai Ruoxi's fellow heirs weren't even bothered to join her mischevious acts and had either been working or studying for the better sake of themselves. She was the only heiress from the five families to mess around the circles. Nobody was able to suppress her.

She had singlehandedly ruined her own reputation, wasting her looks and brain. And in the end, she... had sobered up through the harsh way.

"Ruoxi?" Jun Yihan called worriedly when he saw her staring blankly at his face.

Did she hate the idea of becoming friends with him? Had he made the wrong approach?

Bai Ruoxi noticed his troubled expression and found it rather cute. She regained her composure and smiled, "Let's be friends then."

A smile immediately bloomed on his lips. Jun Yihan was delighted, no, he was ecstatic. His heartbeat increased and started beating faster than ever.

Friends!

They were friends, could you believe that?

He now had a proper term he could call Bai Ruoxi. He was somehow related to her.

Did that mean whenever Jun Yihan missed her, he wouldn't just be looking through her pictures anymore? He could call and even ask her out?

Contrasting to his happy thoughts, the man kept his face straight and only flashed a simple yet heartwarming smile.

On the other hand, Bai Ruoxi suddenly wondered if she had just fallen into another trap, but she chose to shrug it off.

"Well then, do I need to give you my number?" She asked with a hand scratching the back of her head.

'That's how friends work right? Exchange numbers with each other?' Bai Ruoxi thought lazily before suddenly stiffening her spine. 'Should it have been him who asked for my number? He's the man.'

Unknown to her, Jun Yihan had long remembered her number. But he couldn't let her know about that, right? Moreover, Bai Ruoxi was personally offering her number to him. How could he reject it?

"Sure." Jun Yihan nodded and handed her his phone. He was glad that he didn't save her number on his phone.

Bai Ruoxi casually accepted it and typed her number in. 'How bad could it be to be friends with Jun Yihan anyway?'

Oh, only if she knew...
