13 The Courtesans Child

"Hey, wait for me!" It was the kid who Daiki had helped save from the thieves, that had been two days ago. He had bound a rope around the kids arm, in order to make him heal faster. Now, the kid, whose name he had found out was Nakame, had started following him."Where are you even headed?, this direction leads to nothing more than the spoils of war" Daiki continued onwards, ignoring Nakame. "Thank you for saving me and all, but this seems like a very bad idea, the army camp is in that direction" Daiki continued walking, but without warning, he started talking, "Have you been to the army camp before" Nakame became quiet. "A bad memory?", the kid still didn't respond, "guess so..."

The bond fire lightened up the dark night, it made crackling noises that disturbed the otherwise quiet night. The warmth from the fire made it possible for both Daiki and Nakame to sit and relax without being to heavily dressed. "My mother died there...", it was Nakame who had accompanied the fire in disturbing the silence. "... That's to bad", Daiki didn't want to dig any further, but he wouldn't need to. "The leader of the camp, Fumihiro, he's my father" Daiki meet his eyes for the first time in two days, "why did you say that". Nakame closed his eyes and took a deep breath and then he started speaking again, "You're going to the camp to kill him, right?". Daiki didn't leave him with his gaze, although his eyes had a penetrating look, he didn't have a serious expression.

"Are you going to try and stop me?", he wanted to be as clear as possible. He wanted to know how the kid had found out, but that was a second priority, right now, he needed to know what their standing was. "Don't worry, whatever your reasons are, I probably want to see him dead just as much" That was a relief, but know he was really curious about who this kid really was. "He killed my mother, that's why I want to see him dead" He was starting to get a better grasp on the situation now, "Fumihiro never had a wife, so your mother was a courtesan, right?" Nakame was confused by how the man sitting in front of him knew so much about his father, but he felt like he could trust him, his eyes remained him of his mother's.

"Yeah, she was, Fumihiro had her at the military camp as...'entertainment', but when she stepped out of line and wanted to leave with me when I was five, he decided that the fun was over. He killed her right in front of me, after that, he simply abandoned me to fend for myself in the wastelands of a battlefield. Maybe it was his way of acknowledging my mother's last wish. I managed to find my way to the closest city and in order to survive in this cruel world I did everything I could to survive. I was going to get my revenge, and that's how I ended up here today.

The boy seemed lost, like a sheep without a heard. He reminded him a lot of himself. Daiki stood up and walked towards the kid, Nakame got scared, but as soon as Daiki's arms embraced him, he knew that this was the last man he would ever need to fear. "I'm not to good at this stuff but let's give that old man of yours what he deserves" No heavy emotions overwhelmed Nakame, he simply felt like he could finally be what he truly was for the first time in a long while, a kid
