5 5. Friend or Foe

'Now I have raw meat but I will need a way to cook it if I want to be able to eat any of it.' "Sir, do you know of the method of making fire with friction?" "Do you mean when those survivalist campers rub sticks together to make a fire?" "Yes, that is exactly what I mean, using this method you could have a way to cook and eat the food you have." After raising my agility to five with my skill point I went out and collected some firewood to start my fire. "Alright let's start on making a fire!" (Ten minutes later) "I can see smoke, there's smoke, Benji there's smoke!" "Yes sir I heard you." "What do I do now, do I have fire now?" "Not yet sir, very quickly take out the stick that you are spinning and dump the spark that is in the hole of the second stick into that nest of fibers that I told you to make." "On it!"

"The spark is in the nest what do I do now." "Lightly blow on the spark in the nest and when there is fire put it into the center of the pyramid that you made with twigs." "Got it!" After a few more minutes of following instructions and blowing on sticks, I finally had a fire. 'First things first, some food for myself .' I cooked part of the rabbit that I cleaned and ate until I was satisfied.

After I finished eating I heard some small whimpering sounds. "Hey Benji do you know what that- wait I forgot about the wolf!" "Yes, it does seem that way sir." "Hey Benji how should I feed it? Should I just give it some of the raw rabbit meat?" "No Sir, these wolves are one of the more sophisticated Species of magical beasts, this specific type of wolf likes to cook their food, although the juveniles cannot use their magic because their mana pool is not yet developed." "So in short I have to cook the food first." "Yes, this is correct sir."

After cooking the part of the rabbit that was left I began to try to feed the wolf pup. "Should I just set it in front of the wolf?" "Yes, sir the wolf should be able to eat by itself." After I set the meat down the wolf it began to sniff the meat but it seemed unsure if it should eat the meat or not. 'Should I try to move it closer or encourage it to eat the meat?' "No sir that would only scare the wolf more." "Oh then I guess I will just have to wait for it to eat then."

After a few minutes of smelling the meat to make sure it is safe to eat the pup finally took a bite. It then started to scarf down all of the meat there. "Whoa slow down you're going to make yourself sick or choke or both!" The wolf obviously didn't listen to me and finished the rabbit in a few seconds and was looking much stronger than before.

"How about a name, you'll need one so I can call you something." "Yes, I also think giving the pup a name would help." "Thanks for your input Benji." After a while of thinking I remembered learning a bit of Latin and Fire in Latin is ignis. "How about Ignis, it sounds pretty good to me." "I agree sir, even if it is a basic way to name something." "Wow and here I though you had no sense of humor Benji."
