"Well—Since you are always doing dangerous missions. How about something relaxing for a second—you just oversee Kuoh Academy and maybe find out if they are suspicious or not? Ah—also you told me you have never gone to school before—so how about trying as you can still do it. So just enjoy yourself."
That's what Kaoru told Kai before he finally accepted those missions.
A private school Kuoh Academy, it's a school that recently became a Co-Ed school. It may look like an ordinary school, but this school was funded by two devil clans after they had an agreement with a local god. Those two clans had Satan as a clan member, Sitri and Gremory Family.
"I don't think I can relax in this school." Kai thought about it while he entered the school. He had been reincarnated 17 years ago, and in the past, as he was always confined to the bed—reading manga and watching anime were one of his hobbies. But he was human—and pretty easy for him to forget a lot of things he read or watched years ago.
So even Kai knew several things about Kuoh Academy and the anime high school DxD itself—many important things were forgotten by him.
But there would be a lot of accidents centered in this school. So Kai didn't think he would be able to relax.
"Welcome to Kuoh Academy, Kai." A bespectacled young woman with long straight black hair wearing blue, semi-rimmed glasses welcomed him while bowing moderately. She was no other than Shinra Tsubaki, a Vice-President of Kuoh Academy's Student Council and also Queen of Sona Sitri's Peerage.
"Ah— Thank you for having me," Kai replied.
"Yes, please follow me to the student council office."
"Okay."
Their conversation was quiet and short—those two didn't intend to be friendly. Even there was hostility in the air between them. And so, there was no conversation between them until they arrived at the student's council office.
"Welcome to Kuoh Academy, Kai. I'm Sitri Sona, the student council president and delegate of the Sitri Clan. Nice to meet you." Sona introduced herself. She was a bespectacled young woman with a slim figure, black hair styled in a short bob cut, and violet eyes using purple glasses gave her an intelligent person.
"I'm Sayanomiya Kai, a delegate from the History Compilation Committee. Nice to meet you." Kai introduced himself back.
"Sayanomiya—?" Sona was surprised to hear Kai's name. And that was understandable since Sayanomiya Kai's name was just made several days ago—just a moment before Kai left for the mission.
Kai's beloved superior just gave him a ring engagement and said to him—
'Hm— you will go on a mission until you graduate. That's why I'm giving you this—so you can use my family name as you like in Kuoh Academy—Just don't be overbearing.'
That's why since Kai got this ring and got permission from Kaoru, he changed his name to Sayanomiya Kai since it was more convenient for him.
"Yes, Sayanomiya Kai. Several days ago, I engaged with Sayanomiya's heir." Kai told Sona that she nodded her head as she understood.
"Is that so— congratulations. Also, please tell Sayanomiya my blessing too." Sona said in an effort to be nice.
"Ah, I will tell her that. So—Just like our message was sent to you and we had approval from the god. We like to oversee devil activities in this school." Kai explained it to Sona.
"Are you telling me? You're suspicious of us—Sitri Clan."
"Of course not— Is it just that there are a lot of accidents that suspiciously are related to the devil," Kai said. At the same time, he gave Sona their report and proof of a suspiciously devil circle with the Asmodeus Clan on it.

"Sorry— for the rudeness of my vice-president." Sona hung her head in shame as she apologized
"Well, this time, I'm partly at fault too—since I'm too provocative." Kai properly apologized to them.
But they fell silent for a minute as Kai looked around the student council office before his eyes stopped since he found something interesting.
"It may be that we're too emotional. How about we talk while playing chess?" Kai said while he pointed at a chess board.
"Well—are you fine with it?" Sona responded as she was a bit surprised by Kai's suggestion.
"Of course. I heard a rumor that you will get a good reward if you win matches with you." Kai said with a smile as his eyes stared at her eyes.
Sona, on the said, could only accept Kai's suggestion. "Tsubaki, please." As she had been provoked.
"Yes—Sona-sama."
"Well, I don't really play chess too much—so please go easy on me."
"Suit yourself." Sona looked at him and wore a smile on her face. But yeah, Kai could see her eyebrows twitched before she released a sigh.
"Good—In the end, what we are doing just to make sure. There is nothing suspicious—not about the Sitri Clan, but Gremory too. And if you don't have anything to hide—Your suspicions will be over in a second." Kai spoke while he moved his chess.
"That's true."
"Also, it will be better if the Sitri Clan helps us solve this case. So won't it be faster if two families helped us and gained our trust at the same time?" Kai asked Sona to aid his case.

"Ah—by the way, do you understand what this formation means? We suspected a summoning circle, but it looks very different than we know." Kai once again moved his chess piece while giving her the picture from the crime scene.
"This." Sona took the picture. It was a picture of a weird summoning circle with blood and several human bodies positioned at every point. "Is that so—How about this pill? We find there is a trance devil power on it." This time Kai gave Sona a pink pill with a heart symbol in the center.

And Sona was overwhelmed with Kai's play.
"Ah—It looked like a stalemate. I don't really play chess too much. I never thought I would make a mistake. Thanks for playing with me. If we have another chance, I hope we will play again." Kai stood from his seat, and without looking at Sona, he went to the door.
"Ah–by the way, just like in the message. I hope you finish my transfer school procedure. I will be waiting." Kai stopped for a moment and told them before leaving the student council office for good.
Leaving Tsubaki and Sona alone in the room.
"Hm—I think. That's enough for now." Satisfied with his performance, Kai left the school to his apartment with a big smile.

Sona collapsed back to her seat after she saw Kai leave the student council office.
"Damn—" She even cried in frustration.
"Sona-sama—" Tsubaki could only give her master a drink to calm her down.
"I've never felt humiliated like this—especially by humans," Sona said in a low voice as she saw the chess board that showed the stalemate.
"Hahaha—He said that he knew there was a reward for defeating me in chess. And I bet he knows that I will marry someone who defeated me in chess. Ultimately, he purposefully stalemated the game—as if he was indirectly rejecting me. That's a bastard—" Sona talked with a defeated smile as an exuding aura of raging frustration filled the room.
"He got me—Tsubaki, can you search for any information about him? I have a bad feeling about him." Sona asked Tsubaki, who nodded.
"And fast—It felt like he didn't like the devil. Sayanomiya Kai—Huh—I will remember this."
