5 The God's Dreams

After Yuudai learned his first three Youjutsu spells, he tried to use them as much as possible. He teleported or flew whenever he could, to get used to them as if he were simply breathing. Regardless if it was only used as a utility skill for travel or for fighting, flying and teleporting was always very useful. Imagine the enemy standing around leisurely and an instant later he is throwing an attack into his opponents' face. Few people would be able to react to something like this. As for flying? Even if not exclusively, he liked to fight close to his enemy. While he could throw attacks from the distance, he wanted his ranged combat to be an option and not the last resort when fighting a flying opponent.

As for his skills in creating and using barriers, he got more proficient in every spar he had with Karasu or his mother. They would have to use nearly their full power to make even a dent in it. While he knew that it was still far from his end goal, he was still proud of his improvement.

But as much as he wanted to fly around at the moment, it was time for his lessons now.

"Do you know how Yokai came to be Yuu? Tamiko asked but didn't expect an actual answer.

"No, I don't think we ever talked about this." He answered with a tilt of his head.

"Nobody really knows how exactly we came to be, but there are multiple theories. The humans even thought that we were their emotions, mostly negative ones, given form. They really think the universe revolves around them." Tamiko laughed heartily at the end of her sentence.

Yuudai smiled stiffly, he was a former human and saw many examples proving her point. But in the end most humans were just ignorant in the grand scheme of things. Most humans in this new world didn't even know about the supernatural world. Aside from a few people that had sacred gears or encountered magicians or other races, they were ignorant about the real happenings around the globe.

"But to get back on topic, the most believed theory is that we were born by unique circumstances around Japan's most powerful God's. To sum it up we could be called a coincidence." Tamiko explained.

"So, we were created by Amaterasu and her siblings?" Yuudai curiously asked.

"No, you are forgetting, that they were not the only ones in history and there were actually a few more before them. After the creation of Heaven and Earth, the primordial deities manifested. Their last generation, Izanagi and his sister-wife Izanami created Japan. He was the God of Creation and Life and Izanami was the Goddess of Creation and Death. While they were responsible for the birth of many Gods, at one point it signified their downfall. Izanami died during childbirth. Izanagi, not accepting his wife dying, dove down into Yomi. But instead of his beautiful wife, he was fearful at what he found. A rotting corpse with few similarities compared to his sister. He abandoned the thought of rescuing her and fled Yomi. As he felt contaminated, when he returned, he purified himself in a bath. While bathing, he birthed Amaterasu, the Goddess of the sun and mythical ancestress, Tsukuyomi the moon deity and Susanoo the impetuous God of the sea and storms. They were born as Izanagi washed himself. Amaterasu from his left eye, Tsukuyomi from his right eye and Susanoo from his nose. As he dried his body, the water falling from his body soaked the soil and imbued the land with supernatural potential. And thus, we Yokai were born." His mother calmly narrated.

Yuudai had a weird expression on his face. Their race was born from someone's dirt falling into more dirt?

Seeing his incredulous expression, Tamiko grinned as she continued: "Just take it with a grain of salt. Especially when it comes to Gods, there are multiple ridiculous stories that don't seem to make sense. It was even said that a marital spat between Izanagi and Izanami created the life and death cycle. Or that Susanoo was exiled for being a brat and creating natural disasters. The first one might be true in a sense that they had a hand in it, but with the many different pantheons, I doubt they were the only ones involved. As for the story about Susanoo, while it might be true that he threw a tantrum, he at least was never exiled as far as I know. What I want to say is that there are multiple ridiculous stories and some of them aren't true or at least only partly. I don't doubt you will meet you fair share of Gods in the future and isn't that the perfect chance to ask them about the credibility of tales told about them?" His mother ended with a grin, courtesy of their visitor that was close to arriving.

Yuudai was aware that they were about receive two visitors as well, but then again, he was aware of most happenings around himself. He left his passive sensing ability on for around a few hundred metres around him. He didn't even want to know what some individuals were up to in their private life and therefore restricted himself.

One of their guests was Yasaka. By now she snatched away the position of his favourite aunt. While she was his only one, he was sure she would be the best, even If there were 20 more.

The other person was a woman as well, but she was far stronger than even Yasaka. Her aura was bright as the sun. It was threatening to burn all opposition while at the same time spreading a familial warmth. If his guess was correct, it was the Sun Goddess Amaterasu and it was interesting to finally being able to compare a God with other races and himself. As the Chief Goddess ruling Takamagahara she was undoubtedly strong, but to his surprise even her raw power in resources didn't even come close to his own.

That came at a small surprise to him. While he knew his future responsibility eclipsed hers by far, he still had high hopes for Gods and Goddesses being at the pinnacle of this world. It seems there are still forces stronger than them.

"I will have a chat with our guests. Why don't you go training or playing meanwhile?" His mother asked. Since he was still only a little short of 5 years, she thought it was too early to throw him into the bigger supernatural world. Even if Amaterasu was one of the better Goddesses, a mother could still worry about people with ulterior motives.

Yuudai was fine with that. His curiosity of hearing stories from even older people could wait and he really wanted to spend more time training and learning more things he could do with his Ki. His mother was slightly surprised at him instantly teleporting away.

She recomposed herself quickly, as she went to fetch her friend and the Goddess at the door. While they were beautiful as always, Yasaka seemed a bit tired. Amaterasu's motherly affection for her was no secret and it would wear her down after a while.

"Lady Amaterasu, Yasaka, good to see you two." Tamiko greeted them with a smile.

"You as well Tamiko, please excuse us for the visit." Yasaka greeted her in a more formal way than usual.

"Nice to meet you again Tamiko, no need for formalities." Amaterasu smiled.

They quickly moved toward the living room with Tamiko serving them tea. As they quietly enjoyed the calming stimulation of the beverage, Tamiko addressed the Chief Goddess: "To what do I owe the pleasure of you visit Lady Amaterasu?"

"Can't I visit just like this? Maybe I missed you?" Amaterasu asked rhetorically with Yasaka and Tamiko giving her a suspicious gaze. She usually had a lot work and while she occasionally visited Yasaka, she never did visit Tamiko when Yasaka was not present.

"Alright, no need for these looks. I will tell you." Amaterasu blurted out, becoming uncomfortable under their gazes.

She quickly cleared her throat.

"A few deities had a dream, which in itself isn't anything out of the ordinary, but the content of these dreams was." Amaterasu stated.

Seeing the confused expression of the other two women she continued: "We all had the same dream, and it was about your son Tamiko."

Tamiko instantly became defensive as her expression turned frosty: "What do you want with my son?"

Amaterasu didn't expect anything else, but she was caught off guard as Yasaka didn't look any friendlier at her.

"Just let me explain before you skin me with your eyes. At first, we thought it was a vision, since it happened before, but shortly after we realized that more and more Gods had these dreams. Even a few individuals from other pantheons contacted us about wanting to meet your son, Odin among others. That's when we grew suspicious and came to a conclusion. The only one who can influence dreams to such a scale is the one to whose domain they belong to. Great Red." Amaterasu ended her explanation.

Yasaka and Tamiko were shocked. The strongest being took an interest in Yuudai and had some business with him? Did the giant dragon know anything they didn't?

"Now about the content of the dream, it was nothing too special. No words were spoken, but it was clear that the sender wanted us to help your son as we were shown an image of him. It was like he was carrying a huge weight and shielding us from something. That's when the dream ended. That's why we wanted to meet him, to maybe gleam something more about it. Something like this never happened before. At least not selectively to a few of the strongest Gods."

Yasaka turned her attention to her friend who was lost in thought. After a while Tamiko seemingly came to as decision as she turned her focus back to Amaterasu: "While I don't know what this entity wants with my son, I myself know that he is special. While he is young, his control over his strength is impeccable. I doubt he has ever gone all out in our spars and is just earnestly trying to learn. His rate of growth is just as spectacular, and I don't doubt he will become important in the future. But he is still not even five years old and I won't throw him before a scheming bunch of old people without being prepared."

"While I understand your point, it is important that-"

"No, that decision is final. You all will be able to meet him when he is fifteen years old. If I see any one of you close to him before that, I don't mind getting unpleasant." Tamiko put her foot down.

"We all stand behind that decision." Yasaka added and made it clear that the Yokai would look out for each other as they always did, making Yasaka sigh in defeat.

"I understand, we will wait until then. I will inform the others about your decision." Amaterasu gave in. She understood where they were coming from. Gods had quirky characters and some of them reacted badly because of the smallest affronts. But she could understand the Gods just as well, she was one of them after all. In their long lives many things happened, but rarely something like this and a higher being influencing your dreams is something they are not used to. But in the end, waiting for ten years is nothing for them and they would get their chance to meet him.

"Here is a list of Gods that contacted us. From our side it was me Tsukuyomi and Susanoo." Amaterasu handed them a small piece of paper. On it were a total of 4 names. Together with Amaterasu and her siblings, there were a total of seven Gods.
