The quick compromise of the Dutch and the signing of the Batavia Treaty relieved Arthur and the government of Australasia. However, it didn't mean that Arthur feared the Dutch government. The relief stemmed from the fact that Australasia's military forces would suffer fewer losses.

Although Australasia's population had just surpassed 10 million, many of them were recent immigrants who had arrived in the past two years. These immigrants needed extensive education and influence to develop a strong sense of national identity and ethnic pride towards Australasia.

Therefore, when conscripting soldiers, Australasia had a relatively stringent requirement of residing in Australasia for at least three years. This requirement applied to the regular military forces. However, for Arthur's trusted elite troops, the Imperial Guards, the requirement was a minimum of five years of residence in the Australasian region.
