8 Chapter 8

"SCORBOROUGH! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING IN THIS DEPARTMENT?" The head of the experimental department was eating into Rey. Rey was trying to share his ideas with some of the workers in hopes that they would think it was a good idea just like he did. None of them listened though. They all passed Rey off as a dumbass who couldn't make it in their department. They had a sense of superiority over the other departments since they had the highest funding.

"N-nothing Sir!" Rey saluted the man and walked out of the room with his tail between his legs. Rey was never the confrontational type and he hated all types of it. He would much rather agree with the wrong side if it would mean he wouldn't be yelled at. Rey was just a simple security guard. Not the type that would be at the gates though, he was the man watching the cameras. He made sure nobody made off with any equipment or took any pictures. There was a strict no cellphone policy in the building. The phones could be hacked and then military secrets would be leaked. Rey was able to have his though since he wasn't near the secret stuff.

It was Reys first year at Saber Industries. He worked hard to get raises but they never came his way. While everyone else was out celebrating with a bigger paycheck. Rey was conducting his everyday routine. Go to work, get yelled at, go to lunch, get yelled at again, work, get yelled at and then go home.

Rey returned to his desk. It was full of paperwork from other guards. They all dropped their work on him since he was the "new guy" at the company. Although it was a lot, Rey still did it. It was relatively easy seeing as it was just simple math. He was supposed to add up how many people got pushed back, allowed in and who left. On an average day, he would count close to a thousand people.

Reys work day soon came to an end. He was supposed to work from 7am to 3pm, but the guy who was supposed to replace him always showed up late. He never got punished in any way for it so he never showed up on time. It was 3:45 when he finally decided to show up. Rey clocked out without looking at the man and walked out of room. Rey left the building, showing the guard his badge before leaving the premises.

Rey lived close by so he walked to and from work everyday. Today Rey stopped by a mart before he went home. It was in the opposite direction but was only 5 minutes from work. Reys main goal was to get some batteries. The experiment he was working on at home used up a lot of them.

Rey grabbed a basket and started looking around the mart for the batteries. He knew where they were as this wasn't the first time he had bought them before. He would go down each aisle picking up snacks and quick meals. He grabbed a few bags of chips, a box of cookies and a big box of instant noodles. The last thing he grabbed was 5 24-packs of double-A batteries. He checked them out and then started his way home.

Reys walk home was quiet. The sun was beginning to set so the birds were started to chirp. Most everyone was already in their homes so the street was relatively clear. Reys house was on the other side of the street meaning he had to cross it. He waited for the one car that was coming before he crossed. He was finally home and able to relax.

Reys house was relatively large. It was a four bedroom, two bath house. Which was way more than one person needed but he didn't complain. He would occasionally rent out the other rooms to people. His house also had a fully furnished basement as well. He had his office at the furthest room in the house. Since he was working on a secret project that had potential dangers, he tried to have it away from as much people as possible.

Rey brought some water to a boil, then poured it into his insta noodles. This was his usual dinner. He knew how to cook but he wanted to spend more time in his office. This meant the faster the meal could be made, the better. Rey put the rest of the items he bought in their respective cabinets excluding the batteries. When his noodles finished, he took them and the batteries up to his office where he would stay for the night.

Rey was in the middle of tinkering with his project when he heard a noise from downstairs. At first he thought it could be the family that currently was living with him so he paid little attention to it. He finished up his noodles and tossed the carton into the trash next to him. It was full of similar cartons and dead batteries. Sometimes Rey thought that without him, the company that manufactures the batteries would be out of business.

With a package of batteries already down, Rey opened up the second package. He only needed one more battery for the next iteration. With this last battery connected, Rey fired up his new invention and had its first successful run. The batteries quickly died though. This meant that he had to improve its energy consumption and efficiency. Compared to all the work he's done so far, that would be a cakewalk. Just then, a bunch of strange men burst into his room. Rey knew what was going on, he was getting robbed!

Rey stopped himself...'wait a minute...I've been through this before!' he thought to himself. 'This was my last day of my old life. I must be dreaming then cause I was certain that I was in another world. Plus I died so it must be a dream!'

Reys dream was cut short as it ended just how his life did...a bullet. He woke up with a jolt. Even in a dream, a bullet hurts. Rey looked outside and saw that it was morning. "Well I guess it ended at the right time." He stood up and stretched, "but I never want to experience death again. If there's any way possible, I will become the strongest and achieve immortality!" How Rey would achieve that, he didn't know. He wasn't even able to cultivate, it was still a while before he could as well. Immortality seems like such a long ways away, but if he is able to achieve it...he doesn't have to worry about how long it takes.
