72 They Had It Hard

Elena and Thomas soon arrived at the airport. William looked at his brother as he requested, "Second brother, please take care of her."

Thomas nodded, "Ok. She's my sister in law and my colleague after all."

William stared at his wife. He was very reluctant to let his wife go but unfortunately, she had to go. "Baby, you'd better think a way to make up for this."

Elena smiled. She hugged her husband before she reluctantly released herself from his embrace. "Okay. I promise." Then, she and Thomas went after they did a check on their luggage.

William stood until Elena's figure disappeared from his sight. His striking figure was drool-worthy for all the women who saw him but he didn't care. His eyes locked only at Elena's figure. Until Elena completely disappeared from his line of sight, He sighed as he turned around. He would make sure that she compensated him. Or should he seek her for a compensation? Thinking about this, an idea popped up in his mind.

After an hour and half flight, William and Elena arrived at province D. After they took their luggage, they went out of the arrival gate and saw a man who was holding a piece of paper with their name in it.

He was a skinny man in his early thirty. He donned a thick rimmed glasses that made him looked like a nerd. When he saw Elena and William, he immediately walked over and greeted them. "Hi Mrs Elena and Mr Thomas. I'm Qiao Yi. I'm Mr. Yang assistant, the head of Province D. Nice to meet you." Although the two figures in front of him were younger than himself, their status was apparently higher than him. Moreover, they came here as per request of Province D Forensic Lab head.

Elena and Thomas replied politely. Mr. Blair had told them about him. "Nice to meet you too Mr Qiao Yi."

Qiao Yi waved his hand as he said dismissively. "You can call me Qiao Yi. There's no need to use honorifics."

Thomas smiled as he replied, 'You can call me Thomas."

Elena added, "You can call me Elena."

Qiao Yi smiled amiably. "Okay Thomas and Elena. I'm here to fetch you. Has Mr. Blair tell you about the situation here? If he hasn't, we can talk about it while we are on the way to the hotel."

Elena and Thomas looked at each other. Then, Thomas nodded. "Okay." Mr. Blair had only told them briefly about the case. They need to figure out the whole picture first so they would be well prepared when they conduct the examination.

Although they had examined corpses with different cause of dead, they still need a heads-up. It will help them to predict the possible area to focus of examination. The downfall was, it might affect their judgment and made them oversight a possibility beyond what they were thinking. It was a double edge sword. It could be useful depending on who the wielder was. But, Thomas was an experienced one while Elena could not possibly made such mistake as she always put great attention details. Simply to say, it was an auxiliary for them.

Elena and Tomas followed Qiao Yi to the parking lot where a car was waiting for them. Qiao Yi drove them to the hotel. They had just arrived so they need to rest and settle their luggage first.

Elena and Thomas checked into the hotel and said to Qiao Yi that they'll go to the lab after half an hour. Qiao Yi nodded as he informed his superior about this matter. After he got the approval, he waited for Elena and Thomas.

Elena and Thomas went to the hotel lobby. Elena said to Qiao Yi who was sitting while talking to the other hotel guests. "We're ready Qiao Yi."

Qiao Yi stood up from his seat. "Okay."

It didn't take long for the three of them to arrive at Province D laboratory. It is situated in the center of the capital city of Province D, Feng City.

Elena and Thomas went down from the car and saw the white laboratory stood beside them. When they were at the lobby, Qiao Yi beckoned them to follow him. He went to an alley with rows of medical examination rooms.

Some medical examiners who were wearing medical gown went into three autopsy rooms. Although Elena couldn't see their expression, she could clearly see that they were exhausted from their black eyebags. Instantly Elena could relate what had happened. She would also become like that when there were too many corpses to examine. And the most possible thing for it to happen was when a big accident like traffic accident occurred.

Qiao Yi saw Elena and Thomas looked at those medical examiners. "They are examining the victims from an accident."

Elena sked, "A traffic accident"

Qiao Yi nodded, "Yes. A major one at that."

Elena and Thomas knew about the accident that Qiao Yi was speaking of. When they arrived at the hotel earlier, they saw the news from tv. It was reported that a major accident had happened in Feng City that it was estimated more than 40 people become dead victims. They nodded. Those examiners had it hard. Elena gave them compassionate tears to them. She said, "where are going?" They walked past the autopsy room to the end of the alley. Where are they actually going to?

Qiao Yi replied, "The Head wants to meet you two." Without talking anymore, he led Elena and Thomas to a room located right at the end of the alley. It was the office of Province D Forensic Lab Head, Yun Yi.

QIao Yi knocked the door. After he got a response from the man inside, he opened the door and let Elena and Thomas got into it before he excuse himself.

Yun Yi was standing near the window, watching the birds that were chirping on the willow tree right across his office. When he sensed Elena and Thomas, he turned around and said, "You are all here."

Elena and Thomas nodded. They greeted Yun Yi politely. "Good afternoon Head Yun."

Yun Yi sat on the sofa before he beckoned them to sit down. Then, he started talking without beating around the bush. "I know that Blair has informed you two about this. We need your help to examine a corpse from a murder case."

Elena and Thomas nodded. Head Yun was rather straightforward. He said to Elena and Thomas. He believed that Qiao Yi had spilled the details to them so there was nothing to talk about anymore. He stood up from his seat as he said to them. "Qiao Yi will lead you to the examination room. You can start the examination now. I'm not going to follow because I need to deal with some matters." As the head of a forensic lab, Head Yun was responsible in connecting the lab with other stakeholders like police. Today's traffic accident made him completely occupied.

"Okay. Thank you Head Yun." Elena and Thomas went out of the room. They followed Qiao Yi to the examination room.
