63 My Lifetime Promise to You

After they finished talking, Elena and Little Mo went back to the living room. Elena especially, her gazed was fixed onto William figure. Form afar, she could still a trace of hopelessness as his head hung down, as if the hope he had was crushed by the reality.

And it was somewhat true. Elena's words earlier had diminished his hope.

Elena looked at him guilty. He loved her and so did she. If she had never experienced those things, she would him to the civil bureau directly, at this very moment. But the knot in her heart tugged her everytime she thought about this.

Her eyes were red after crying but, the moment she saw William's defeated expression, the tears started to well up in the corner of her eyes. She chocked by her sob and called him with her hoarse voice. "Darling..."

William looked up and saw her teary eyes. Instantly, his morose expression turned fierce as he glared accusingly at Little Mo.

Little Mo saw William's gaze on him. He shook his head and shrugged his shoulders, indicating that he was not the one who made her cry. "I'll go out for a while to see my friend." What Little Mo said was in fact an excuse. Little Mo said so because he wanted to create a chance for the couple so they would have time to talk heart to heart.

He walked out of his house and soon disappeared from their sight.

William stood up and hold her shoulders. He was panicked that she could hear his trembling voice. "What...what happen? Have I just done something wrong? Why are you crying? Baby, answer me please." He stared at her nervously.

Instead of replying his questions, Elena cried even more heartbreakingly. Her cry and sob got louder.

William flustered. He didn't know what had happened actually. But, he could sense that the reason must be related to him. So, he hugged her and patted her back gently as he whispered softly. "I'm sorry baby. I'm sorry. I make mistake and I'm very sorry."

Both of them stood for several minutes in the position where Elena was in his embrace. William's suit was drenched with her tears.

After Elena calmed herself down, she broke herself from his embrace. She looked at him with her red, swollen eyes. "Why are you so good to me?"

William didn't reply immediately. Instead, he took her hand and put it on his left chest.

Elena's palm was on his left chest, sensing his erratic heartbeat. Then, she heard him said, "Because I love you. I love you so much that I can't imagine how I would live without you. You are my heart. With you, I'll be alive and without you I'll die. You are my everything my baby Elena."

After he finished speaking, Elena hugged him tightly. Before William could react what had actually been happening, Elena said, "Let's go."

"Where?" William asked as he puzzled.

"To the civil bureau."

William stunned. Didn't she just subtly 'reject' him? To make sure that she didn't make this decision hastily, he asked, "Why? If you feel that you owe me or anything else, just don't do it. I don't want you to marry me out of guilt."

Elena released herself from the hug. She looked at him intently before she shook her head. "No. It's not the reason."

"Then why?"

"Because our feeling is mutual." she paused for a while before she continued, "My rejection earlier was not because I don't love you. Instead, it is because I love you that I can't bear to part with you."

William smiled joyfully when he heard the word 'I love you' from her mouth then he felt into contemplation after she finished her words. William's brain worked at the full speed, trying to interpret her words. Then, her story days ago about her beloved parents and Uncle Qi death emerged in his mind.

As expected, the words that Elena said was all about it. "Everyone dear to me leave me one by one. They left because I'm a jinx like what those people said. Because they are close with me, they disappeared. Everyone surround me will leave me all alone. I'm afraid that you'll leave me alone too." Elena didn't know how many times she had cried today but she didn't restrain her emotions. She let it all go, unlike the day when she told William about her past where she refrained a semblance of her pride.

At that time, she didn't want him to think that she was a crybaby. But now, she vent her frustration that pent up for years.

William felt a pang of pain in his heart. It was as if a knife twisted his heart. Although he could vaguely imagine what had happened to her during her childhood, what had actually happened? William face was dark when he thought about this. The pain that Elena suffered must be beyond her ability to cope up.

William was grateful that she could keep going until now. If it was someone else, William believed that they would go the wrong way or even commit suicide. Thankfully she adamantly persisted. If not, he would have no chance to meet her. He hugged her tightly. If awry feelings could be transferred to someone else, William would definitely bear all of her suffering and pain. "I'll not go and I'll never go anywhere. Wherever you are there will always be me. You are my heart and you are my home. Trust me baby. We'll always be forever. It's my lifetime promise to you."
