9 First Day of Work

It was monday. It was also the first day of work for Elena. She only need to report at noon but she woke up at four in the morning.

Elena had never been so excited like what she felt today in her entire life. Probably her excitement was influenced by the troubles that keep coming till she almost experienced burn out. Well, it was like: honey would taste sweeter after you eat something bitter.

Elena was not a woman who like to spend hours only for choosing her so-called proper outfit. Daily, she had only took half an hour at most for showering and dressing, because to her, time was so precious that it was a pity to waste it on less important activities.

But today, she spent two hours in total but she was still unable to decide which clothes she was going to wear. She need to present the best of her on the first day because she knew the importance of first impression.

As she was selecting her outfit, she sang and hummed some favorite songs of hers. She felt so excited, nervous and happy at the same time.

She took a deep breath to tamper her excitement that seemed to explode anytime. Today is the first day of your new life Elena. Fighting!

Unnatural Death Investigation (UDI) Lab

A middle aged man was sitting on his office. His mouth twitched in annoyance as he saw some people sitting in his office while eating peanuts and sunflower seeds, gossiping the new member of their agency casually as if the middle aged man was not there. The middle aged man mentally scolded them, Is this room actually my office or theirs?

He really want to vent his anger to them but he knew that they were already immune to his anger.

"You whole bunch of brats, Why are you all here?"

None of them answered.

The middle aged man closed his eyes as he took a deep breath, trying not get angry to some ungrateful human in front of him.

One of the people looked him with sympathy. Out of pity, she responded, "Chief, is she as beautiful as the rumors?"

A man who sat in front of her replied before the chief could answer, "Yes she is. I have her photo in my phone. She is my dream woman. How i wish to make her my wife. I'll be content for my whole life."

The woman sneered, "Huh, a lusty man like you only look after her beauty. And why do you save her photo?"

"I'm not a lusty man. I save her photo as my standard woman." denied the man while shaking his head profusely.

"Yes you are." another man who sat beside the woman joined the fry.

The bullied man, after being attacked by his friends, looked at the man beside him. "Thomas, you see, Key and Lily bully me."

Thomas that the man was talking to was Thomas Park. After hearing his friend pleading, he turned his head to look at him "You are indeed a lusty man Drey." How dare this pervert sought after his future sister-in-law? He must have a death wish!

The chief, admist the gossip interjected after hearing their conversation that went astray, "She is beautiful. But why are you all focus on the outer appereance? Why don't you focus on her skills?"

"No need chief." All of them replied almost simultaneously.

Before the chief could ask, the woman named Lily explained, "We have already seen her resume. Her scores are all flying colors. Everything is excellent! Moreover, Professor Jin and Professor Mika recommended her. She must be beyond good for our agency." The two professors she mentioned was Elena's professors. Both of them are well known figures in their industry.

The others nodded as they agreed with her explanation.

"Thomas, Key and Lily, don't disturb me to welcome her later." If not..."

"As your wish spermy man." replied Lily. She didn't want to waste her time any longer on this man. Furthermore, this man would go berserk if he was disturbed when he hook up with a woman.

"Yes..yes...yes Drey. Satisfied?" added Key.

Thomas didn't answer because it was a ridiculous porposal. Elena would be his sister-in-law, why should he help other wolf to pounce her?

"Thomas why you don't..." before Drey could finish his words, the door was knocked by someone. The middle aged man let the one who knocked the door in. It was the receptionist. She looked at the middle aged man and said, "I'm sorry Mr. Blair. The new pathologist has come."

Mr. Blair nodded and looked at the clock. It was already noon and surely, the one whom he was waiting for had come. He stood up and strode out of his office room.

He looked at his surrounding and located Elena.

Elena saw a middle aged man walking to her direction when she sat on the lobby. She thought he must be the chief of UDI Agency.

On the day when her professors recommended her to this agency, they gave her some information about the agency. They told her that the chief was their old friend, Mark Blair who was an accomplished medical examiner like them. They also gave her a photo of him. Because of that, Elena knew who the old man was once she saw him. She stood up and bowed as a respect. She outstretched her hand for a handshake. "Hello Sir. I'm Elena Kim."

Mr. Blair nodded as he shook her hand. "En. Your two professors had gave me your picture and resume. Welcome to the UDI Agency Elena."

"Thank you sir." Elena replied politely. She wanted to ask about something before she heard a loud thud. She saw four heads stack near the office room.

Mr. Blair frowned. These human are all troublemakers! Fortunately he could rein his anger. He introduced them to Elena. "Elena, they are your colleagues. The one with blonde hair is Drey. The man above him with brunette hair is Jay. The woman is Lily and the handsome man with black hair is Thomas."

Elena looked at them. She wanted to laugh at how funny they were but she couldn't let her emotions uncontrollably take over her current calm facade. She was still a newbie so she should not commit something unfavorable to her seniors. She nodded as she smiled, "Ok Sir." Then, she looked at the four human and bowed, "It's nice to see you all senior. Please take care of me."

"I'll take care of you beauty, surely!" exclaimed Drey before the others as he was mesmerized by Elena's blinding smile. Key, Lily and Thomas felt embarassed on his behalf, they couldn't help but smacked his head.

Drey protested as he clutched his chest, feigning his wounded heart. "Why are you all so mean to me? Am i so easy to bully?"

"You are shameless Drey. Be serious!" Lily responded as she walked towards Elena.

"Yes you are." Key followed Lily.

Thomas, who was still silent unknowingly had already stood in front of Elena. He outstretched his hand. "Nice to meet you Elena. I'm looking forward to work with you."

Elena shook his hand. "It's also nice to see you senior. Yes. I'm looking forward too."

Elena and the others spent two hours for pleasantries as well as to familiarize herself to the workplace before she returned home. She felt so energized that she couldn't wait to work with her seniors.
