Chapter 7: Despicable act

"President Wang, thank you very much for coming and I'm terribly sorry for troubling you" the general manager said slightly embarrassed. "What happened?" she asked. "Our guests here have requested for a VVIP room. But we currently have none available" the general manager replied.

"None?" she asked surprised. "Yes President Wang. There was a surge of VVIP patients last night. Apparently there was food poisoning at the Huang Mansion yesterday. A number of their guests have been affected" the general manager replied.

Huang Mansion. Of course, they would request for VVIP rooms. They are also one of the top 5 families in the country. They wouldn't take rooms "lower" than VVIP's. Everyone in the country knows that the service quality and facilities at Wang Hospital are top-class. Technically speaking, their VIP rooms are cheaper in value and lower in quality compared to their VVIP rooms. But even so, their VIP rooms can be considered as VVIP rooms in other hospitals. Therefore, you would't miss out on any of the high-quality service. Unless you reek of wealth and power like the Huang Family...or even more.

"Surely there are VIP rooms which we can offer?" Wang Xiu Lan asked the general manager while staring at the man he was just talking to earlier. It's as if she was hinting to him that he shouldn't be a picky little shit. The man flinched for a bit. "She's almost just as scary as my boss" he thought to himself as he wiped a sweat dripping on his forehead.

The man was also wearing a suit and was carrying a briefcase in his hand. He had his hair pulled back which made him look really neat. One can say he is the human definition of "prim and proper". He reminded her of Chen Jun. Then Chen Jun standing not far from her suddenly sneezed. Thank God, he always carries a handkerchief around.

The general manager spoke uncomfortably "Y..yes, we do have VIP rooms available. B..but..." he glanced at the guests. Wang Xiu Lan understood. These guests are stubborn. They do not want the VIP rooms and will only accept VVIP rooms. Chen Jun, who has been listening all this time, made an internal facepalm. "Ah. President Wang's most-hated type of guests" he thought to himself.

Yes, what Chen Jun said was true. Wang Xiu Lan hates this type of guests the most. Although Wang Medical group is known to have top-notch quality, they aim to serve everyone. This includes the rich, the middle-class and the poor. This is why they're so popular and well-liked in the country. The rich are attracted to their high-end rooms and service while the middle-class and the poor are offered good services at fairly reasonable prices. Sometimes, they offer free emergency treatments for those who are so poor they can't even afford three meals in a day.

Although they're business people, the Wang Family are doctors through and through. Therefore, they work really hard to be able to provide health care to all those who need it, no matter your wealth status. This is particularly why Wang Xiu Lan hates the rich who abuse their status and power to be given priority at hospitals at any time.

However, such privileges are not tolerated at any of the hospitals under Wang Medical Group. Everyone needs to follow the rules when at their hospitals. Those who are in most need are prioritised and tended to first. If it's not urgent, you need to book an appointment. One would be amazed at how rich people would go to hospitals for trivial things such as stomach ache and hangover. They would even stubbornly request VVIP or VIP rooms. Wang Xiu Lan hated that. This is the reason why she implemented the rules in the first place.

Her grandfather was more lenient towards the rich but he was proud when Wang Xiu Lan made such a drastic change.

Despite the strict rules being implemented, the elites continue to choose Wang Medical Group because they offer the best service. They also offer treatments which aren't available to other hospitals. When you're a member of the high-class society, you want the best of the best and Wang Medical Group is exactly that - the best of the best. Gossips would start spreading if a certain elite goes to a "low-quality" hospital. It's pathetic but the elites are like that. They care about their reputation a lot.

"If they don't want our VIP rooms then... Tell them Angel Hospital is only 2km away" Wang Xiu Lan spoke and then headed for the bridge back to her office. The general manager's face paled and Chen Jun snickered. Everyone knows how horrible Angel Hospital is. Many people even joke about it. People say if you go there, their service and treatments are so bad that while getting treatment, you will see an angel visiting you*.

She hasn't gotten far yet when she heard a voice say "It isn't me". She stopped to look back and saw that the man wearing a charcoal gray suit is looking at her. She guessed it must have been him who spoke just now. However, what did he mean by it wasn't him? She thought. Despite the problem about the rooms, he looks very calm and he doesn't seem bothered at all.

Not knowing what he was thinking. Wang Xiu Lan ignored what he said and started heading for the bridge again. This is when she overheard the conversation between two women.

"Mom, do you think I will get the VVIP room?" the girl asked excitedly.

"Of course. Did you see his car? It looked very expensive! I'm sure he is a very rich man!" the mother explained. Then she added "See, he's even negotiating with the general manager now".

Wang Xiu Lan stopped to look at the two women. One was a woman in her 50s and the other in her 20s. They dressed very plainly. At least according to an elite like Wang Xiu Lan, their clothes are plain and very middle class-like. Then she saw the 20-something year old woman staring with admiration at the man in charcoal gray suit. Wang Xiu Lan's forehead creased.

Then the mother spoke "Now remember, you have to make sure he feels responsible for hitting you earlier. Tell him your leg hurts and that you might need to stay for a few more days in the hospital".

"Yes mom!" the daughter said obediently. "I can't believe such a handsome and rich man is going to take care of me" she said dreamily.

The mother nodded and said "I guess it won't be long before you become a Madam of a rich household. I can't believe I would have such a handsome and rich son-in-law". Then the mother and daughter giggled together.

Wang Xiu Lan was disgusted with what she heard. For some reason, she feels agitated that this mother-and-daughter pair are taking advantage of the man in charcoal gray suit. Maybe because she can't accept such a despicable act inside her hospital. Yes, that must be it. That must be the only reason.

* Not sure if everyone has heard of this "joke" but if you see an angel visiting you, it means the angel is picking you up to go to heaven which means you are about to die ^^'
