Chapter 10: Any idea?

Wang Lei was thinking. Indeed. If it was Star Media who published the news then there was nothing that they could have done.

Wang Lei: "The news is already out for the public to see. There is nothing we can do about it. The best way to do now is to admit the truth to everyone".

Wang Fang: "Dad! Wouldn't that mean I'd be digging my own grave? I don't want to ruin my reputation. I finally got an interview from Medic Point. Now is a really crucial time for me."

Wang Lei: "Fang, didn't I already tell you before? The truth is what we let others see. As long as we can support it, nobody can say otherwise".

Wang Fang: "Dad, you mean..."

Wang Lei: "We will release a statement admitting the relationship between you two. We will also be testifying that Zhao Jun and Wang Xiu Lan has already been on bad terms for quite a while now".

Wang Fang: "Dad, that seems like a good idea but wouldn't that mean I'm still a mistress?".

Wang Lei: "We can say that Zhao Jun tried to break it off with Xiu Lan but she refused. Despite her refusal, Zhao Jun started treating her like a stranger and has since been in a relationship with you".

Wang Fang's face brightened and she jumped to hug her dad. "You really are the best dad!"

Zhao Jun: "This could work. After all, it is true that Wang Xiu Lan and I have rarely seen each other lately."

Wang Lei: "Mm. Ever since she started managing the Wang Medical Group, she has been so busy. People will believe she barely had time for you anymore."

Wang Fang couldn't contain her excitement. Just thinking about finally being Zhao Jun's official girlfriend makes her feel all giddy on the inside.

Ling Min: "But honey, what's going to happen to the engagement now? Will the Zhao Corporation back out on our collaboration?"

Zhao Jun: "Uncle Wang, Aunt Ling, about that... I'll try to talk to my parents about it."

Wang Lei: "You are a sensible man, Zhao Jun. We should definitely meet together with your parents and discuss this matter. I don't think it would be that difficult to proceed with the collaboration. After all, this is between the Wang and Zhao family. There isn't only one Miss Wang in the family".

Wang Fang smiled. She felt happy. She knew her dad was talking about her. If marriage is needed to combine the powers between the Zhao and Wang families, then isn't she here? She is also a Wang!

Wang Fang: "But Dad, you already know grandpa doesn't particularly like me. It might be difficult to convince him to make me as the heiress instead."

Wang Lei: "I don't believe he has the heart to stop you from marrying Zhao Jun. You are still his blood family. After all, that's what matters to him the most... blood relation".

Ling Min felt a bit uncomfortable and said "Then honey, should we call the Zhao's and make an arrangement to meet with them?".

"Mm. Let's do that" Wang Lei said.

"President Li, here is the information you requested" Guang Jie came into the office and handed a stack of documents to Li Han Zheng.

Li Han Zheng took the documents and flipped through the pages. This is the background check he requested about Wang Xiu Lan. He knew who she was but it was limited to professional information such as her name, age, gender, net worth, list of companies etc. This time he wanted to have thorough information about her.

Li Han Zheng stopped at a certain page and a crease formed on his eyebrows. "She is engaged?" he asked Guang Jie.

Guang Jie was taken aback for a bit. There are a lot more confidential information in there but this is the first thing his boss noticed? He even wrote this information almost at the end of the file because he thought it was less important than the others.

Guang Jie replied "Yes, President Li. President Wang is engaged to the heir of Zhao Corporation, Zhao Jun". Li Han Zheng's face immediately became dark. Then Guang Jie's phone suddenly beeped. He grabbed his phone. He knew this was something important. He set different ringtones for different important notifications and this one in particular is about highlighted news in the business world. As the top secretary of Li Corporation, he has to be up to date with the current news. In the world of business, the sooner you know, the better.

Guang Jie read the news headline and was shocked. Then he turned to his boss and said "I guess not anymore, boss". Li Han Zheng looked at him and asked "What did you say?".

"News just came out. President Wang broke off her engagement with Zhao Jun" Guang Jie replied. Li Han Zheng couldn't contain his smile. Although it wasn't a big smile, it was apparent enough coming from a stoic person such as himself.

"I see" he replied.

Guang Jie felt goosebumps all over his body again. His boss just smiled twice today. Should he start worrying? This all seems too good to be true.

"Um, boss" he said.

Li Han Zheng didn't respond nor look at him but Guang Jie knew he is listening. Li Han Zheng continued to flip the pages of the report.

"About what happened today, I apologise. I was rather incompetent. I promise that will never happen again" Guang Jie said as he offered a deep bow.

Again, no response. Guang Jie was starting to get nervous. He might have really pissed him off this time.

Meanwhile, in Li Han Zheng's head he didn't even mind that Guang Jie made such a mistake. If they didn't go to the hospital then he wouldn't have had that encounter with Wang Xiu Lan.

Guang Jie decided to say something.

"Boss, I was thinking of making it up to President Wang but since the incident involves the reputation of the company I thought it would be better to act in behalf of Li Corporation".

After hearing this, only then Li Han Zheng stopped flipping through the pages.

"Mm. You are right. Any idea how?" he asked.

"I was thinking maybe we can send some gift and..." Guang Jie answered but then stopped as if he's doubtful of whether he should continue or not.

"And?" Li Han Zheng raised an eyebrow.

"...and invite President Wang for dinner".

Silence.

Guang Jie panicked a little bit. "I mean... boss... this was only an idea. Of course, I know your time is too precious to suddenly be spent on some random dinner just for an apology but..." then Guang Jie got interrupted.

"I trust you to book the best restaurant there is".

Guang Jie was momentarily shocked.

"Huh? What did you just say boss?" he asked.

"Guang Jie, you know how much I hate having to repeat myself. Take these signed documents and leave" Li Han Zheng said sternly.

The poor shocked assistant finally realised what just happened. His boss just agreed to have dinner with Wang Xiu Lan! His boss who usually gets invited to dinner months before by other CEO's has just agreed to meet someone for dinner to apologise. This is crazy! But he was crazy too for even bringing up the idea.

"I understand boss" Guang Jie answered. He took the documents and left the President's office.
