5 Chapter 4

16 years later

"So Mr. Vindebt, this will be our final session. How are you feeling today?", Arthur asked.

"I'm much better, I slept well last night after so many months", the old man replied.

"That's good. That's really good. I am sorry for your loss Mr. Vindebt. I felt the pain as I saw your son walk into the sea while playing and I saw him drowning. I could feel each and everything you felt but you have to understand that it wasn't your fault. It was an accident", Arthur said.

Mr. Vindebt nodded. The old man had been suffering from insomnia and depression since his youngest son had drowned at the beach 6 years ago. Jade had been a miracle in their lives, they had never expected to have a baby after the couple had roughly entered their 40s. However they had Jade and he had surprisingly born without any complications. Losing him was the hardest thing they had been through and Mr. Vindebt blamed himself for not being careful with the child. He hadn't cried since then. Not even when the lifeless corpse was pulled out of the water. He had shut himself out. But when his relationship with with his family started getting strained, he decided to be better for them. He had visited a lot of psychiatrists but all of them had just prescribed him medications which never helped.

When he heard about the psychologist with an ability to see the past and heal people he had immediately made an appointment. This step had proven to be the right one as he had improved much since his first visit. "If you don't mind, Dr. Mickaelson, may I ask you something?", he questioned. Getting a nod in response he continued, "How did it start, I mean the ability to see the past?".

"I don't see the past, Mr. Vindebt, I wish I could", Arthur chuckled and continued, "I only see that one exact moment where things started going wrong for you and to answer your question, I don't exactly know either. It has been this way for as long as I can remember." The rest of the hour went by with Arthur explaining how he could take care of himself and Mr. Vindebt listening to him intently. Finally the old man thanked Arthur and left without asking anything once his final session was done.

"Babe... I'm home", he exclaimed as he threw his keys on the table. Rene came out of the kitchen and greeted Arthur with a peck on the lips. "Hi baby, how was your day?", she enquired. He smiled in response and went in the room to freshen up. Arthur had met Rene when he had a lecture at the police academy where she studied at the time. They had instantly clicked and started dating shortly after. It had been 3 years that they were together now and Rene was the one who had supported him all the way through when he had decided to use his gift in helping others. She was now a successful police officer known for her dedication and a huge part of his life.

Once he was done freshening up, he walked into the kitchen standing behind Rene, who was busy preparing dinner. He hugged her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder and making her smile. "How was your day honey?", he asked her. "Good actually, I didn't have a lot of work but I did find something on that girl you asked me to look into", she replied getting his complete attention now. "There is this case that mentions the name Freya. I didn't get a lot except for the fact that she disappeared a long time ago but I will be visiting your old school. She went there with you", Rene completed.

"Hey.. babe, thank you for this but you don't have to.", Arthur responded. He wanted to know more about this name that stuck in his head. The name was the only thing he remembered from when he was a child. "The fact that she went to the same school as me is helpful enough, I'll go find out myself.", he finished.

"Oh come on.. they wouldn't give you any information. Besides, your girlfriend is a police officer, remember? So let me do my job and help you", she argued making him smile at her. She had been the one thing that made him forget about all the worries and issues he had. Her smile relaxed every bone in his body. He turned her around and planted a soft kiss on her temple making her blush. It was strange, he had seen her on field, she was this strong woman capable of intimidating a hundred men at once, but infront of Arthur in their comfort zone, she was a shy girl who blushed everytime he complimented her or kissed or even breathed around her, making it hard for him to control. He swiftly picked her up, placing her on the kitchen counter and placed another soft kiss on her lips this time. "I love you so much, you know that right?", he whispered in her ears and went back to kissing her more passionately this time.

A strong pair of hands with black leather gloves dragged the fragile figure away from him. "No ...

No stop", he cried lying on the ground unable to move. He looked at her face as she was being dragged away. She was unconscious, her eyes shut yet somehow they seemed to be pleading to be saved. All of a sudden she opened her eyes and cried out for him to save her. "Freyaa...", he whispered as everything around him blacked out.

Arthur woke up with a sudden jerk. He was sweating, despite the cold temperature. He sighed out of frustration lying down again. Rene lay naked beside him. Just a few hours ago she was moaning and grunting his name as he kissed her. Now she slept like a baby, peacefully beside him. Her still face, once again made him forget the nightmare he had just had. Running his finger through her hair, he kissed her cheeks and her exposed collar bone, moving down slowly yet waking her up.

"I didn't mean to wake you up, but now that you are.. may I?", he asked and she nodded shyly. He continued moving down knowing that it would be a good night for them, forgetting all about the horror he just saw.
