3 Chapter 2

Snow blanketed the silent roads of Vesturbaer, Reykjavik. It was like this for most part of the year. The city was always cold and hushed, however today was different. The air was different, as if mother nature sensed the unfortunate occurrences before they happened.

It grew colder by each minute. Mr. Hansen turned up the heater while Mrs. Hansen and Freya sat at the dining table sipping their hot chocolates. "Ma, you know at school today, Clara beat up Arthur and was scolded by the teacher", the 7 year old narrated to her mother cheerfully. "See Freya that is why you should never do bad things, you will always pay for your sins, will you be a good girl?", Mr. Hansen asked coming back to his seat getting a positive nod from the little girl. They continued talking about how their day was when all of a sudden the power in their house was cut off and there was a complete blackout but just in their house. Mr. Hansen could see that all the other houses were lit up through the window.

A man in a ski mask quietly walked in the shadows and jumped over the small wooden fence. He seemed to be well built yet you couldn't really notice it in the first glance through the thick black hoodie he wore. He tip toed his was to the back yard and entered the dark house through a small window into what seemed like the kitchen. He tried to be as quiet as he could but the heavy iron weight plates in his pocket bumped into one of the cabinet handles making a loud bang.

"Who is it? Who is in there?", Mrs. Hansen asked in a quivering voice. She walked slowly following the noise that came from the kitchen. The neighborhood they lived in was one of the safest ones in the city, yet somehow she was scared.  Each and every nerve in her body screamed as she reached the kitchen. However she couldn't see anyone in there, even though it was dark she thought she would at least see a movement or a shadow if someone was in there. Once she was sure she turned out and nearly had a heart attack when she saw little Freya standing there.

"OH MY GOD! Honey you scared me!", she exclaimed. Freya however, was not paying attention to her mother's words. She started trembling as a silhouette from her favorite fictional character Assassin's Creed seemed to be moving towards them in the dark. "Hey baby, what's wrong. Come on lets go finish our drinks", Mrs. Hansen said. The child raised her hand pointing her finger towards the kitchen behind her mother. "Ma....Be...Behind you....there is... there is a monster behind you", she stuttered. However it was too late.

Before Mrs. Hansen could turn around to see what her daughter was talking about she felt a sharp blow on her head numbing her world for a few seconds. When she did get her senses back she was already being strangled with something that seemed like silk by a pair of strong hands. All her attempts to free herself were in vain against the person. "Freya... baby... G..Go c... call Pa", she managed to blurt out and the little girl ran to find her dad.

"Pa.. Pa...where are you, there is a monster in the house, he is hurting Mama", she screamed as she ran around the house. Mr. Hansen was nowhere to be found. One of their neighbors heard her screaming and came running towards the house. "Hey kid, what's wrong?", he asked seeing the child trembling and sweating at the same time. "Mon...monster...Ma... Hurt", she was now breathless and at the point of passing out any moment. As the neighbor George ran inside the house to check, he saw no one. The house was completely empty. There were thing lying everywhere around the kitchen showing the signs of struggle, however no sign of Mrs. Hansen.

He turned around and jumped as he saw what was written on the wall with what seemed like blood. "YOU SHOULD NEVER DO BAD THINGS.. YOU WILL ALWAYS PAY FOR YOUR SINS".

He dashed out to check on Freya, but she had vanished too. He tried looking around for her all over the block but she was was nowhere to be found. He quickly tapped on his phone dialing, "Hello 112, I'd like to report a kidnapping." Once done reporting the incident he dialed another number.  "Hey Fi, you need to come home man. As soon as possible!', he exclaimed. "No.. No I need you to come home now. I think there is something up with your family. Freya came running out of the house and she was crying and miserable, but after that she went missing, and now i can't find anyone. Your parents and Freya...... no one's here and the whole house is dark.", he hurriedly explained.
