33 THE TEXT MESSAGE

"Why would Alas ask you to have coffee with him?" It was the first thing that came out of Jean's mouth.

Lily had asked herself the same question too, over and over. Why would Alas ask her to have coffee with him?

Earlier that afternoon, Lily received a text message from Alas.

From: Alas Cummings

Sent: 3:26pm, 11/23

Yo! Come over to Nickel Penny.

Have coffee with me.

So, Lily hastily called Jean right after and asked why Alas would ask her to have coffee with him, out of the blue. Other than the fact that the town vet's son was dating her best friend, Lily couldn't think of any other reasons why. Maybe, he wanted to be friends with her. Her logic told her so. Whatever the reason was, she would give it a try. It wouldn't hurt. It was just weird. The guy might have something important to talk to her about anyway.

"I really have no idea why he sent me this text. I guess I will get the answer when I see him," Lily answered the question.
