Steve kept running with Alice on his shoulder. His breath getting shorter and shorter. 'I'm not made for this' he thought to himself.
"Steve, Jack's stopped running!" shouted Alice.
He turned his head and looked back towards Jack.
Jack was frozen in his spot, staring at the mound of earth that was appearing before him. The air was thick with dust, whilst the rain continued to fall around them.
"Jack run!" shouted Steve. The ground continued to shake and crack around them.
Through the dust what seemed like two huge red eyes began to open and stare back at them.
"Jack!" shouted Alice.
The rest of the group continued to run away from them, hoping that where ever they ended was safer than here.
The eyes began to rise until they were the height of where the 6th floor once was. Stones and mud fell from the sky, with the sound of car alarms being triggered in the distance.
Steve turned and ran with Alice.
"Alice, we need to go!" he exclaimed.
....
Jack stared into the red eyes as they rose. The rain bounced of the creature, reveaing it's dark black scales.
In the distance the city fell apart, with car alarms blaring and people screaming as they ran away.
The creature looked down at Jack. Its red eyes focusing on his. It moved it's head towards him, it's large snout protruding from it's long scaled face. It slowy exhaled through its snout which smelt like burning tar as it reached Jack's face. The temperature of the air increased as the rain hitting the creature started to boil.
Jack looked back at the giant creature, sweat dripping down his spine. He was afraid. They were right he thought, the world really had ended.
.....
Clem ran with the group, she was faster than most and was near the front. Behind her was a constant torrent of destruction as the city she loved collapsed.
She couldn't see too far ahead due to the darkness and rain, but she knew she had to keep running. She heard Steve screaming for Jack, but she couldn't stop. She needed to live.
*SCREAM*
To the side of her a woman disappeared to the sound of an agonising scream.
*SCREAM*
A man fell screaming. Dragged away into the darkness.
"Group together!" a man behind shouted.
She matched the pace of the group and got closer to the core.
*ROAR*
Clem looked to the side of the group and some monstrous beast. It looked like an oversized black Lion, with a mane of tentacles. It had giant eagle like claws that sped towards the man that told them to group together.
"Help me!" he screamed as the beast claws ripped into his leg. Blood splatterrd across Clems face as the beast dragged him into the darkness.
*GROWL*
Another appeared on the other side.
Clem stopped running and sat on the ground, she knew there was no point anymore. The city she loved was gone, every hurdle brought another surprise of destruction. The rest of the group continued to run and slowly be clawed and dragged away by the beasts.
One by one, everyone passed her. Until she was the only one left on the road. The beasts followed the group of screaming people and ignored her sat on the ground.
Clem sat sobbing to herself for a few seconds, until all she heard was the rain pattering the floor around her and the destruction of the city in the background.
"I'm alive!" she suddenly thought to herself. She slapped herself in disbelief, she couldn't believe it.
She slowly headed to a nearby alley to hide. If the cities destruction didn't get her, the monsters would. She needed to hide.
....
"Steve, I'm scared!"
'It'll be ok Alice, it will be ok!"
Steve and Alice had ran back towards the group, but when they heard the first screams they took shelter in the closest intact building.
They were in a sandwich shop, which seemed to have had a hard time, the ceiling was cracked down the centre and the tables and chairs were all thrown around the room.
Steve placed Alice down behind the counter.
"I'm going to check if there's a safe place here for us to rest for a little while." he said.
"We can't stop!" said Alice, "Jack, the others, what's happening?"
"I don't know." replied Steve 'but I'll keep you safe' he thought to himself.
Steve headed towards the kitchen door of the sandwich shop after reassuring Alice. His body ached all over from running and carrying her, he's a large man, he wasn't made for this.
He pushed open the door and stepped into the kitchen. Shelves were collapsed and food was spread everhwhere. At the rear of the kitchen was a large walk in fridge.
Steve continued to explore the kitchen.
*BANG BANG*
There was a loud bang on the fire exit door of the kitchen. Steve headed over to it.
"Help, let me in! Someone please!"
Steve opened the door and Clem fell straight through. As she fell through she stood up and slammed the door shut, she then held herself against the door.
*BANG*
The door shook.
"Quick, block the door!" Clem shouted.
Steve's face paled, He ran towards the nearest units and dragged them towards the door.
*BANG*
The door shook again. From beyond the door there was an ear shaking roar of frustration.
*BANG*
"What's going on?" screamed Alice as she hobbled into the kitchen.
She recognised Clem immediately from being in the group who ran with them.
"Why is your face covered in blood?" Alice panicked.
Steve looked around the room and stared towards the walk in fridge. The large metal door was thick and sturdy.
"Alice, open the fridge and get inside!" Steve ordered.
"You also get inside!" He shouted to Clem, "And hold the door open for me!'
....
Jack was frozen in his spot, terrified of the giant monster in front of him.
"I need to move" he said to himself.
He slowly backed away from the monster. The rain hammering the ground around him.
It looked down towards him with hatred in its deep red eyes, as if looking at a tiny insect it wanted to squash.
It opened its snout like mouth.
Jack continued to back away, looking into the mouth of the beast, it had row after row of shark like teeth.
From the back of its throat, a never ending stream of red flame started to spiral until it created a flaming vortex.
"F$#K" exclaimed Jack.
The fiery inferno engulfed him and the city beyond.
