2 02: The Human Sector

Unbeknownst to Diablo, there was one other demon of which had once crossed this border to form contracts with humans. A demon so powerful he became the King of the Underworld and through his trade a phrase arose 'Don't dance with the devil', a phrase of which was proposed when a one of the human sector would commit an act of evil. Specifically, this 'devil' was Lucifer and is still remembered in the human sector to this day.

'I finally made it out of the demonic sector. I wonder if there's any of those humans around here- oh that's right, I need to use transformation magic and change my appearance' he told himself mentally, thinking about what might happen if the humans saw him, a demon, roaming around there sector; considering they had been at war for centuries before the sectors were formed.

Suddenly, Diablo's demon-like appearance with yellow eyes and short, black horns transformed into innocent, blue human-like eyes with no horns to be seen. If he were an ordinary demon, he wouldn't be able to withstand the strain this spell puts on his magical power for long, however, after so many years of intense training, he could probably go days holding this spell. Finally, he used another transformation spell, this time transforming his vocal cords so he could match the human tongue and use the words he had been learning over the years.

"Human" he said, letting out a little of the excitement he had through his voice, as a tiny smile formed on his face after hearing the words flow from his mouth.

'So this is what human words sound like' he thought to himself as he tried to hold back the excitement that was overflowing inside him, this was one of the only times he had felt such a feeling For most his life he only felt anger and resentment towards the people of the Demon Sector using him for their own gain, but now it was just him against the world, and he loved it.

Slowly, Diablo walked through the tall grass field as he felt the sympathetic breeze of which he had never felt in the Demonic Sector and gazed at the aesthetic views that surrounded him, much different to the feeling the Demonic Sectors views gave off. Even though he had only been there for mere moments, he felt like he had returned home and that even though this was the world of humans, he belonged.

Time flew by like an arrow being shot by a fast archer, Diablo now found himself towards the end of the picturesque field while he caught a glimpse of a small town. Even from the small glimpse, he could tell this town was full of joy from the beautiful lights that lit up the town as people in the streets had smiles on their faces, something so natural it was like they did in all the time. This was new to Diablo, throughout his life in the Demonic Sector people only smiled out of greed or wicked thoughts, but the people here were smiling because they were free; they were smiling because they could and they were happy. If there was one word to describe it, it would be 'pleasant'.

Exasperated and very curious of what the human towns would be like, he headed into the town. As he walked through the lively streets, he was greeted with smiles and waves as if they were all good friends.

"Hey there kid, are you by chance a traveller?" a tall man said in a joyful tone, from the years of developing his talent of reading others true emotions, he could see this man was being genuine and had no ulterior motive.

"Yes" he said, trying to hold back a smile as a new warmth developed in his cold heart.

"If your looking for a cheap place to stay you, there's an inn called 'Moonlight' nearby. Do you have any money on you?" the man asked as he looked up and down at Diablo realizing that he didn't have anything but his clothes and a sword on his back.

"No, I don't have any money" Diablo replied, he didn't know what human money was like as nothing like that was explained in the books that he read, he didn't want to slip up and have them find out he was a demon and so he tried to be as vague as possible.

"I wasn't able to bring any money with me on my way as I lost my backpack in the forest" he said in a disappointed tone as to hide the fact that he didn't have any money for another reason. Due to what he had learned of expressions and gestures people did when they conveyed emotions, he was able to be quite convincing.

"Here, use this to get some food and a room from that inn" the man spoke again while handing him some circular metal pieces. At first Diablo was confused, but then he quickly realized that these peculiar metal pieces were in fact the human's currency and so he gladly accepted the money and headed toward the inn.

Through the books in the library he learned a lot of the human language, almost to the point where he could speak it fluently. Thanks to 'The Demon Arc System', he was able to read the knowledge of the ancient books Lucifer had stored into the system and Diablo was able to learn ancient runes and other ancient magic allowing him to do whatever he wanted.

If a human were to find out he was a demon, he could use his ancient magic to make them forget it all; he could even manipulate people's memory into thinking he was their distant relative. Of course, per his standards, he wouldn't do this unless it was necessary or the profit he would reap from it was far greater than the risk from the kind of taboo he might be committing.

A while later, after he had eaten the delicious human food of which he found to be much tastier than the kind of food he would find in the Demon Sector, he headed into the room he had just bought for 3 silver. He had gotten a good enough grasp on what the currency from the Demon Sector translated to in the Human Sector, and found that the prices of this inn were indeed cheap but still, the rooms were pleasant and made him feel at home. He had finally found a place he could call home and his journey of the human world had only just begun.
