What Are You?

It was deep in the night, a few stars lit the sky but not enough. Not enough to make Lilith sleep. The incident with the young assassin wasn't what she expected but nonetheless, it happened. She looked at the campfire that once had a flame, two bodies asleep, deep in thoughts and dream.

"Hey Alpha," Lilith was sitting in a branch, near the extinguished campfire were she could see the two soundless bodies, she spoke to herself. "Why doesn't silver affect me?"

"That's a good question, I'll just say this," Alpha's voice was calm, smooth. If only it could sooth Lilith to sleep one day. "It's because of me."

Lilith stared into the small bright sky, she remembered when she used to stay up late and stare at the sky, whether it was clear or not. Every time she looked at the moon, she always felt sick to her core. She would start feeling high like her body was made out of feathers and her conscious fading. Now, when she stares at the moon, she feels the same motion of energy coursing through her body that she felt when she looked at the moon and lost her left eye. She would sometimes even howl at the moon like a wolf, every time she did, she felt a satisfaction.

"If only," Lilith whispered to herself. "If only she was still alive."

"And who would that be?" groaned a voice. Lilith looked down and saw the young assassin awake or at least awake to talk.

"Just someone who I know and miss," spoke Lilith, she pulled up the dark green scarf over her nose, a gift that Nina had given to her, a memory that Lilith would keep. She slumped farther back on her branch, accepting the darkness around her.

"Why do you have silver, Demon?" Summer asked with no hint of hostility.

"If the new king is supplying it, then I just want to see the flames rise higher," Lilith spoke very cryptically. "How's your hand?"

Lilith forgot that not every werebeast is the same as her. She apologized to the young lady and took care of her. She remembered that she allowed Alpha to take over and the next was just black, then she felt the blood in her mouth. It tasted metallic and raw.

She felt bad that she hurt someone that she wasn't planning to but the young lady did try to kill her brother, her only family. She jumped down off her branch and walked up to the young lady: "Let me see your hand."

Summer didn't argue and unfolded her damaged hand, Lilith removed the bloody cloth that covered the deep cut. Lilith gently applied pressure on the palm of SUmmer's hand, she saw Summer flinch each time she applied a certain amount of pressure.

"It's gonna need some time, a day or two to say the least," Lilith assured. "I'll be back, just stay.."

Lilith wiped her body to a full one-eighty degree and caught an arrow, inches from her neck with its flint tip. She saw something dripping from the tip, a dark purple liquid. "Poison," spoke Alpha. She saw into the dark forest and saw a hooded figure in a tall branch, a mask was covering their face but Lilith knew it wasn't a Sioux

Lilith draws out her twin broadswords and charged at the hidden attacker, and before she could even get a foot towards the hooded figure, they vanish like thin air. Lilith growled in annoyance and placed her swords back in their sheaths, she headed in the forest, leaving Summer all alone.

Summer sat down and looked at her right hand, it was healing slow and not as fast as she wishes it would be. She felt a sharp pain through her head and she winced at it, she looked once again at her hand and saw that she was shaking. Was she cold or just scared? And if she was scared, what was haunting her? She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, she tried to sense Lilith's aura but once again it never appeared. Then she felt a smooth feeling on her hand, it was soft and gentle, she opened her eyes and saw Lilith wrapping a clean cloth on her injured hand. "Such soft skin," Summer thought, she turned a bit red with embarrassment.

"There that should do it," Lilith's voice sounded gentle, it was impossible for Summer to think that she almost lost her life from this creature. "You should get some more sleep Summer, I'll watch over you two until dawn."

"Don't you need sleep?" Summer spoke.

"No, I'm used to this," Lilith replied. Summer looked at Lilith's eyes, a nice moon blue and amber with a hint of gold. She inched closer to Lilith, she was so close that they could almost kiss.

"What are you?" Summer spoke out, she didn't mean to ask such a rude question out loud. She moved around from Lilith's face and covered her face with her knees.

"I'm just a monster," Lilith replied coldly, she looked at the moon again and she howled. She didn't care if someone saw her doing it, nothing seemed to matter anymore. Summer looked at Lilith and for a second, she thought she saw a wolf howling in front of her. Lilith's silver hair seems to shine against the moonlight as she continued to howl.

"Just a monster," Summer repeated the sentence over and over, she looked at Lilith on last time before she went back to her sleeping spot. Only Lilith knew who she was exactly and even then, it's hard.

If only...if only there was someone, someone who would take in a monster like her. Only then would she feel the comfort that she lost some many seasons ago.
