1 Chapter 1: A second chance

Marcus opened his eyes and looked out the window of his school with a look of confusion and strangeness.

"What happening?" he said looking around.

"Finally awake Marcus, you almost missed my entire class" the teacher said with an angry tone.

"I need to go to the bathroom!"

"No you don't, you'll stay right there!"

He stood up and ran out ignoring the teacher.

"Hey!"

_____

Marcus ran around the school corridors and crashed into the men's bathroom.

"It can't be" he said stopping in front of the mirror.

He saw a 5'10 16 year old boy with dark brown skin that didn't have the scars he was used to, short curly jet black hair that covered his eyes and a pair of red eyes that showed is utter disbelief rather then an eyepatch on his left eye.

"How is this possible?" he touched his face and body multiple times. "I shouldn't be here, I should be dead"

A boy came into the bathroom.

"Marcus, are you out of your mind?!" he said panting.

"Mr Nelson is pissed that..."

Marcus looked at the boy and grabbed his shoulders. "Ben?" he said with even more shock in his voice.

"Yeah?" he said with a look of worry for his friend.

Marcus stood still for a moment before taking a deep breath.

"Ben, what's the date?" he calmed down and his demeanor changed completely.

Ben was a little shocked at his friends complete change in attitude and even more on his question. "How do you forget your own birthday?"

Marcus let him go. "My birthday?"

Ben straightened his shirt. "Yeah, March 19th, likes its been for the past 17 years"

Marcus stood in silence for a moment before opening his mouth. "Ben, tell Mr Nelson I'm not feeling well and that I went home"

"What?" Ben was shocked.

"Please, I just need to get home right now"

Ben sighed. "Fine, but you owe me..."

Marcus sprinted out without a second thought. "

"...one" Ben left the bathroom and went back to class.

_____

Marcus ran all the way home with a calm expression. All kinds of thoughts running through his mind, but the one thought that he kept going back to was, 'How did I come back in time?'

Marcus was confused, the last thing he remembered was he was in Eldergard, the world people were transported to and where they had been fighting for their lives for decades.

"The last thing I remember is doing the dragon quest with my party members and dying" he jumped over the fence of his house and went inside.

He went upstairs and opened his laptop.

"People are transport to Eldergard on the 33rd" he turned on his laptop and began typing uncontrollably.

"If I remember correctly, some of the players told me even before the transportation weird things began to occur and people ignored it, if I don't find proof of this weird occurance, it was all a dream" he clenched his fist. "Or a nightmare"

After five minutes he saw a picture of a large dog looking beast that walked on its hindlegs and had scales on its head and back, others would not know what that was but he knew that it was a Kobold, a monster found on Eldergard.

He read some of the comments.

<This is obviously fake>

<Yeah dude, you can see it's a costume>

<NO IT'S NOT, IT'S REAL!!! >

<Yeah right, LOL>

"Fuck!"

He heard a knock on the door.

"Marcus, I got a call from school, they said you left early"

Marcus stood up and opened the door. The person on the otherside was someone he never knew he could see again.

He had lost his memory of what she looked like decades ago, replaced by a black fog.

It was his mother, he looked at her with a smile before embracing her in his arms.

"Are you okay sweetie?"

"Yeah, I'm fine"

He couldn't hold back his tears as he hugged her.

"Geez, why are you being such a crybaby?"

He looked up and saw his little sister, another face he had long forgotten.

He pulled her into the hug and didn't let them go.

Mar us never got to see them in Eldergard, for some mysterious reason not every person got pulled into the new world, some people were left behind. Even after looking for them continuously for tens of years, he didn't even get a clue of where they were, so he would savior this for as long as he could.

"Stop hugging me weirdo!" his sister was trying to get out of his arms.

He let them both go.

"Are you sure your okay Marcus?" she touched his forehead.

"Yeah, I'm just a little sick" he sniffed. "I'm sure it's nothing serious, I just need a few days off and I'll be right as rain" he said with a smile kn his face.

His mother smiled. "Good, dinner will be ready in a second" she said walking away.

"Why would you hug us if your sick, I don't want to get sick!" she said tugging at his shirt.

"You'll live" He said walking into his room and shutting the door.

He sat on his bed looking at the clock, his eyes fixed on it, his finger tapping matching the rhythm.

"I don't have a lot of time, theres no telling what will happen between now an the day of the event" he sighed.

He sat at his desk and typed on his computer.

<Where did you see this thing? >

<You believe my picture>

<On the mountain trail, you should check it out, it's sick>

<You should be careful, it could hurt you>

<Nah, this thing is tiny, it couldn't hurt a fly>

Marcus was shocked how people didn't have a sense of danger in the face of an unknown creature.

"I suppose living in a peaceful place world causes such a lack of danger" he sighed.

<I'll meet you there>

<Alright!! >

He picked up a metal bat, black hoodie and cap and left his room.

"Marcus, where are you going?" his mom asked.

He opened the door and put his cap on.

"I need to check something really quick, I'll be back before bedtime"

"Alright, I'll leave your dinner in the microwave, be safe"

Marcuz smiled. "I will thanks"
