1 Prologue

The fire began from a small corner. The palace guards stationed just in front of the palace did nothing. In fact they were paid to do so. Their work was to turn a blind eye to the black dressed person, who would set the palace on fire. They also had additional work ....to kill anyone would escape the fire regardless of whom it is.

Ironically it is the guards killing ones to be guarded, thought the distant figure who was watching this unfolding spectacle. He did not doubt the guards meant to do his dirty work. He knew that they would carry out their duties faithfully without mistakes. He had paid them enough to do so. He took out his gold plated telescope and watched the palace to make sure nobody escaped. Mistakes would be dangerous and it would raise suspicions.

The fire rose beautifully . There is a beauty in every beast. There were no screams as everyone were asleep. The fire are away the beautiful art works and sculptures adorning the palace. It is a shame, he thought ,losing all those priceless pieces of art. But was a small prize to be paid for achieving a greater good. The conflagration raged on. The whole palace caught on fire. He waited for a few minutes seeing nobody emerging out of the palace, he knew that everyone has died. Satisfied that his plans had gone well, he gave a signal to two archers beside him. They notched an arrow to their bow, and killed the two guards in front of the palace, their allies.

I can not afford to have lose ends in this plan, he thought, that's what his master would want. Dismissing the archers, he took a pigeon and a piece of paper. He wrote three words..

Dominar, està hecho...

"Master, it's done"...

.....

It wasn't done yet. While he wrote his letter, he failed to notice a figure running steadily with a bundle in its arms. The figure turned around, saw the guards killed by arrows and guessed what happened. Then she ran far north to the river dockyard. She had escaped the fire through a tunnel and in her arms were two of the most important things for the future of the kingdom...the prince and the ring. It was her duty for the kingdom, the dead king and the queen to keep them safe. She wouldn't fail them and when it was time she would tell the now sleeping prince, his destiny and birthright.

After sending the letter, the man stretched and yawned. The mission was over. He could sleep. And tomorrow his master, seeing the thoroughness of his plan, would reward him greatly. He had just one more order to give. He signalled the two archers, who went and removed the bodies of the guards before any one saw them. Then feeling giddy at the success of his plan, he went to bed.
