Volunteer

"I'LL DO IT! I'LL JOIN!"

Of course the look on my uncles face wasn't what he expected me to say, he was looking for someone to speak up and take charge, perhaps to be the next chief and make countless objective decisions.

"Navia are you sure about this, this is a matter between life and death.",

My uncle insisted. I responded with, " yes, after all I have a purpose in life, and all I've done in my life is just stare at a wall, let me be use to you and this neurotic village."

After the argument my uncle finally accepted me volunteering, and told the soldiers to report back to the headquarters.

I went up to my room to update my journal and inform it that I entered the military, I write lots of important events in my journal. While I was finishing up my last words Gora came in and didn't hesitate to not knock,

"well good evening to you gora, is there something you need?"

She bursted into tears and ran up to me to give me a hug "I don't want you to leave... stay here with us" she kept pausing in between each sentence to catch her breath and calm down.

"If you leave, the monsters will eat you... at least that's what my teacher told me" i tried my best to calm her down but she kept crying in my shoulders.

I automatically assumed she heard the conversation I had with the soldiers and uncle, "oh that, it'll be alright I'll just be gone for a little bit and just before you know it I'll be home already and I'll play hide & seek with you, I promise."

"Are you sure you won't break it like last time?" "I promise" I gave her a warm smile and we both headed downstairs to prepare dinner.

A while later after dinner I instantly fell asleep from exhaustion. But I kept waking up at night, that bad habit started to appear again, I always despised the feeling of being tired and sleepy

. May 22nd, I woke up a little late today but the sun was still sleeping.

I took all my clothes and essential items, uncle told me I would start training the next day. I had asked him how could I, one person could have resolved the not enough soldiers issue.

He told me that after the village heard a quite and skinny boy like me would be training for war, that gave them hope. I still didn't understand it, but it was good new to hear more men were able to join the team.

Training was quite tough because everyone knew me as the skinny boy who belongs to the chief.

They probably thought that because uncle lives in the orphanage home he built and raised all the orphans and homeless there, but I was his biological nephew.

Oftentimes they would tease me, even though it was the first week. The 8th day in training was the same as always,

" YOU KID! JUST BECAUSE YOU BELONG TO THE CHEIF DOESN'T MEAN I CAN'T DROP YOU OUT, YOU'RE TOO SKINNY!"

The trainer would scold me a lot and call me a bag of bones, and when ever I look in the mirror I just see a skeleton with frizzy black hair.

Although he taught us many useful and significant things, how to wield a sword, ride a horse, ambushing techniques, and many others.

We stayed in a very small-scaled inn on the southern side of the village, it was about 20 miles away from the orphanage, to get there we rode on horse carriages, it felt like days.
