8 Chapter 8: Sword Of The Millennial Gods

She wielded the two weapons like it was a part of her body. Even at a space this tight, her tactical strategies up against Kun Shang were robust, slick and fast. He had to move agilely and swiftly in order to block both of her sabers.

"Miss, you are an exceptional swordswoman. Who is your Master?"

Both of them swept their legs up and spun their bodies horizontally in the air. Qingzhao landed on her knee but slashed her blade to the ground, sending a strike of energy towards Kun Shang. He sliced his sheathed sword and broke the momentum of the energy.

"Mister!" Xiu'er yelled to him from across the room. She hid herself behind the girl in black, letting one of the girls fight with the subordinate. "You are fighting against the Third Miss of Eastern Double Blade Sect, Gou Qingzhao. She holds the most respectful weapon of her Sect, the dual Moon Sabers, made from the tusks of a Winter Albino Elephant. That's why the blade is a white color. It is extremely sharp and will cut through your sword."

Is she that formidable? Should I continue fighting her with my sheathed sword, or should I pull it out?

Kun Shang had his hands full with the fight against Qingzhao at the moment, but still turned his head towards the mysterious girl in black. Xiu'er hid behind her like a scared prey, leaving her hand on the girl's shoulder to be visible.

He blocked the attack from the sabers with his sheathed sword and closed his eyes for a split second, tring to remember what the covered-up eyes were like behind her hat. No amount of her skin was revealed and because of this, he couldn't help but wonder why.

Qingzhao hated when her opponents didn't put full attention to a fight. It made her look weak, like they were giving her the upper hand when she didn't need it. Her pride and dignity was hurt in the process, and trust me, Qingzhao was a very proud girl.

She picked up a stool with one of her sabers and swung it at him. Kun Shang pivoted and roundhouse kicked the stool with his leg. Without his knowledge, she was expecting this and also kicked it from the other direction. The stool broke from both of their kicks, but Qingzhao directed a leg towards the mysterious girl in black.

Kun Shang detected the wooden leg as it made its way to the other side of the room. He thought of the first thing that came into his mind, and that was throwing this sword to change the trajectory of the wooden leg.

He thrusted his sword faster than the blink of an eye and it completed its execution. His sword diverted the original path of the wooden leg and then penetrated hard into the wall at the other end of the room, behind the girl in black and Xiu'er. With his attention taken away from the fight at hand, Qingzhao took this time to sweep her leg and trip him. He fell, but put one hand on the ground and somersaulted, landing on his feet with one arm in front protecting his face.

All of a sudden, his sword started shaking behind Xiu'er. Xiu'er turned behind her to witness the handle was violently vibrating. In a split second, the sword itself was mysteriously pulled out of its sheath. It flew across the tavern and landed right into Kun Shang's grip perfectly on the hand that was protecting his head. The young Palace guardian was shocked to see his weapon act this way. Qingzhao's eyes also went large too, as she finally saw the unsheathed sword.

"The Sword of the Millennial Gods!" She breathed.

The young man examined his sword from top to bottom and back again with creased eyebrows. When the Emperor mentioned that the sword no longer had powers, he forgot to mention that it still had a life of its own.

A life of its own?

Possible, but a sword moving on its own was very rare in the martial arts world. It required the sword to have a spirit.

In fact, Qingzhao thought in her head, swords with a life are only myths. There is only one magical sword that ever came close to it, and that was the Sword of the Millennial Gods.

However, Kun Shang wouldn't know that because he didn't come from the martial arts world and did not have any expectations of such. Would Kun Shang be surprised if the sword just started talking? Who knows.

While he was too busy inspecting the sword, he didn't notice the Third Miss had dropped the fight, collected her men and fled the tavern. She appeared to have left in a hurry, as if something she saw had changed her plans for the day.

Kun Shang went to retrieve his sheath and walked up to the mysterious girl in black, followed by Xiaogua and Silang. They were stopped by the other girl, the one who wore light colors with the frilled skirt from coming any closer.

"It's you," she said with an annoyed expression. She had recognized him from a week ago and he had shown interest in the sister wearing all black then. "Why is it you again?"

He shook off her rudeness with a bow of greeting. After apologizing for Xiu'er, he also thanked them for defending the mischievous beggar, even though they were not obligated to.

"I am greatly indebted to you. My name is Kun Shang. If there is anything I can do to make it up, please tell me. May I know the Miss's name?" He asked towards the girl in black.

"Forget it." The same girl said. "We shouldn't be bothered with you. In a short amount of time we will no longer have to see each other again."

"Junior." Chun Yi's rich and honey smooth voice silenced the two of them from almost quarreling. He was shocked to hear her voice from underneath the veiled hat. Although he had never seen much of her face, he now had one more characteristic added onto his list to help him visualize her. "Bid them farewell."

"Yes, Senior Sister." The girl nodded her head.

The girls packed their swords and followed the mysterious girl in black out the door before he could say a thing. This was the second time they met but he couldn't even figure out her name. He'd hesitated again. He should've asked her when they first met, and now he didn't do it even on the second time. Who knows when destiny will let them meet again.

Kun Shang shook his head.

What has gotten into him to make him so curious about her? Was it that she was hiding her face that made him want to see what she looked like? Was it because he had never seen anyone like her before? Or was it the mystery of it all about her that he wanted to uncover?

Xiu'er was standing just behind him and she saw the strange way Kun Shang had been looking at the girl in black. Her heart dropped a beat.
