6 The Book

My second bout went much faster than my first. I think I'm making an impression on the Solar Senate.

Sadly, I don't think it's the impression I'm after. Hm. . . maybe it would work better if I could knock my opponent unconscious rather than kill them?

I laid down on the cold, dingy, grey stone floor and studied my surroundings. There were a few suspicious spots on the floor. Maybe from the wounds of the room's previous occupants?

After a while the dim flickering light hanging from the ceiling, started to irritate me. I wonder if the light bulb is loose…I stood up and reached for the light. It's too high … should I risk it?

After carefully checking for guards and finding none, I decide saving the bit of my sanity I had left is well worth the risk. I took off my shirt. Wrapped it around my left hand. Unfolded my wings, and flew up to fix the light. Using my left hand I tried to tighten it. As I twisted the bulb I noticed something that looked like a book and a writing utensil hidden in the ceiling. I finished tightening the bulb and grabbed the items.

Once again on the floor, I folded my wings and opened the book. I sat and began to the message left by a member of the first resistance.
