5 The Ease of His Hardening Heart

The big, beast walked back down the mountain as he carried a lightweight on his back. The figure's chest was rising in a slow rhythm and he hated to agree but the sound of her breaths were soothing to his sensitive ears.

Xavier being inside Talon was eager to come out and stroke her long red curly locks but decided to let his wolf lead the way to the tower. He himself was confused and flabbergasted at why he didn't, no, couldn't snap her neck into half.

It was what every young Werewolf learned as soon as they were grown up enough for combat. The easiest way to kill a vampire, it was taught that the neck of a vampire was the weakest part of their body so when a werewolf were to encounter with one, the easiest way to kill them was to lay their paws on the slender and pale neck and snap it into two.

Xavier was accustomed to the move as he has killed dozens and thousands of the bloodsucking monsters in battle. But when he laid eyes upon her soul, the only thing he felt was to carry her in his arms and protect her from the atrocities of the world.

Never once had our dear alpha felt so much warmth for a female, not to talk of a vampire. He laid his hands on his hardening heart and let out a frustrating sigh. Who would believe his heart had stopped turning into stone, the second he felt her presence?

Talon let out a howl at the conflicting emotions of their heart. The vigour Talon felt when his paw was on her neck was like a tornado of power.

He proceeded towards the outskirts of North-East, passed through the woods to an open space which was at the end of a river. His snow-stained paw climbed the bridge that led to the tower.

The tower was a huge, tall cylinder building with the statue of an eagle sitting on the roof, watching over any predators. It was built by the alpha himself a few centuries ago when the castle was getting too suffocating and he needed to get away from there and especially from his irritating cousin, Ren.

Unfortunately for him, Ren found out his secret hiding place he noticed the alpha was always away at night and to say Xavier was angry was the least. Having no other choice but to accept the fact, the tower became a secret haven for both brothers.

Nobody knew about this tower except the Alpha and his Beta because they camouflaged the surroundings so if any wolf were to sniff the area, they will only catch a smell of the woods and wild flowers.

The wolf climbed the stairs to reach one of the enormous rooms in the tower, he used his paw to turn the knob and open the door as he balanced the unconscious figure on his back.

As he dropped her gently on the king sized bed. He quickly changed to his human form and watched the beautiful creature sleep for some time before he stood up to use black sweatpants and a shirt to cover his decency.

After he changed into clean clothes, he moved closer to the figure on the bed and bend to sniff her. She smelt of sweat, blood and dirt but the lingering fragrance of sweet strawberries masked it all out.

Unable to control himself, he leaned forward and nuzzled his nose into her slender neck. He let out a groan as sweet pleasure spread over his body just from her scent.

He quickly retracted and cursed himself for losing control in front of a helpless lady. He took out the first aid kit and grounded some medicinal herb.

He took off her armour and threw it on the floor, his hesitant hands slowly took off her stained white attire and cleaned her wounds while trying as much as possible to divert his eyes from her feminine features.

His body blistered with unkempt rage as he cleaned off her blood. Xavier wasn't aware from where the sudden rage came but he swore to punish those who dared lay their finger on her.

After he was done cleaning and bandaging her wounds, he took a wet cloth to give her a dry bath. Her pale skin came into appearance when he swiped the cloth over her body.

The alpha was stunned by her beauty, the way it seemed like she was carved out of the purest substance was breathtaking that his heart ached to feel her soft body against his.

He packed away the things and brought out a chair to sit and watch his fallen angel sleep soundly. Ever so often, he would bring his long fingers to stroke her red locks and for the first time in centuries, his heart was at ease.

Meanwhile at South-Mairak Kingdom, the soldier that was sent off to kill the princess who narrowly escaped, arrived at the castle clutching his injured eye and staggered down to the royal chamber.

"Your Majesty!" he burst through the doors and fell on the floor with a thud.

The King who was raging at the Queen for not trying to stop their daughter before she embarked on the journey stopped and looked at the intruder.

"What insolence!" The king spat.

The Queen recognized her man and quickly calmed the king that they should listen to what the injured vampire has to say.

"What made you barge into this chamber without a single respect?" she demanded.

"My apologies, my kind and queen but I have dire news for you" he said as he bowed his head.

"What is it?" the king asked but if he knew the news the one eyed soldier was about to bring, he would have never asked him.

"I bring with a disturbed heart that the Crown Princess has been murdered!"

The king, shocked at the news, held his failing heart and his wife, the evil Queen smirked as she started to let out fake cries of agony.

King Luther Barnes was a very kindhearted and noble man which is why the council picked him as the perfect ruler of their kingdom. During the reign of King Regor, he was the closest advisor to the king and one of this loyal servants.

Although he never had any children of his, he loved his stepchildren, Tashina and Lane, like his own blood and flesh which is why when he heard of the devastating news, he felt like his whole world was crumbling.

To learn that you have lost a princess, daughter and general wasn't a pleasant news at all.

"Where is your proof that the princess is dead?" the Queen asked in between fake cries.

The soldier brought out the princess's army tag which was covered in blood, whether it was hers or another one's blood, nobody questioned. All they knew was that the tag was the same tag the princess always wore around her neck to prove her status of a general and it was covered with blood.

The Queen smiled maniacally as her cruel heart was bouncing with joy at the death of her stepdaughter.

"How and where did you find that tag and why are you injured?" the king questioned.

"At the order of the queen. I and some of my men followed the princess so we could save her from any danger then at the Borders Mountain, a big wolf came and attacked the princess. My men all lost their lives trying to protect the princess and the evil wolf snapped her neck into two. That was when I ran for dear life after I took her tag" the soldier coughed up the lie that the Queen told him before he went on the journey.

"Send some of the men to retrieve her body and inform the kingdom of this saddening news. We shall prepare for her funeral" the Queen ordered and the soldier got up to leave the chamber.

The king looked at the queen and raised his eyebrows at the ease with which she handled the devastating news and frowned.

Little did he know, the Queen was literally jumping in joy at the news of the dead princess.

But what she could never have imagined was that the princess was indeed alive and in the hands of the alpha she sought to execute.
