5 Chapter 5

Volume 1 chapter 5

Kane sprints towards the girl, who is still oblivious to the scene unfolding behind her, with all his might. Until the girl notices the wolf standing right behind her. As Kane got really close to the 2, the wolf attacked. He lashed out with his large claws. The girl barely blocks the blow with her water barrel and gets blown back at least 2 meters into the water. By now, Kane reached the wolf. As it put its paw back on the ground, he turned around to face Kane. Seeing a new enemy, it started growling. 

{I don't think I thought this through enough, because… What do I do now! The least I can do might be using appraisal!} 

Extending his arm, he thought;{Appraisal!} 

As he shouted the skill in his head, a little status box appeared.

[Wolf] 

[level 5]

[upgrade skill to see more]

{So in short, the appraisal skill is fucking useless!} 

He didn't have much more time to think, as the wolf bent down, and charged at him. Little dust clouds shot up as the wolf ran faster and faster, with Kane as its target. Panicking, Kane jumped, right as the wolf reached him, and pushed his stone down as hard as possible. 

{That was a solid hit!} 

[3 damage]

Having lost his balance from having hit something while in the air, he stumbled as he landed and fell hard on his back. 

{Just 3 damage? That's awfully low, even though I hit it so well. Let's just hope he has low hp, otherwise I have absolutely no chance against this monster!} 

While Kane was thinking up a plan to defeat the monster, the wolf didn't sit still. It turned around, facing Kane with its hind legs, and kicked back. Again, dust and sand flew into the air, creating a big dust curtain around Kane. 

{Fuck I lost it} 

He screamed when he felt a disgusting pain in his leg. He looked down and saw the wolf, biting on his calves. Too bad for the wolf, his resolve was stronger. He pushed through the pain and turned around. With a surprised sound the wolf slowly let go. Before the wolf could go and with a loud *crunch*, he let the stone come down on the monster's head. 

[Critical hit] 

[22 Damage]

{It's still not dead? What!?} 

Although the mysterious wolf hadn't collapsed yet, it certainly wasn't in top condition anymore. Walking straight seemed to be impossible, it's speed had decreased and it looked as if the wolf couldn't see very well anymore. The biggest change was its head, it was bleeding hard because of getting hit at the same spot twice. The fur didn't succeed in covering the entire wound, but you could clearly see that the head of the wolf had a dent. 

As a last resort the wolf charged at Kane, this time, not low for his legs, but this time for his belly. Like last time, Kane prepared to jump, but unlike last time, he had a large leg wound. As he was about to jump, his leg started hurting like crazy. He fell down on his knees from the numbing pain. A grave mistake that could cost his life. The wolf latched onto his side, and started pulling and stretching his flesh. Blood started running from the wound. The pain numbed his entire body, he was so panicked from the pain he couldn't even scream. Though his arms started to move on their own. The rock he still tightly grasped in his arm started pounding down on the wolf's head. 

Messages started to flow into his vision. 

[1 damage] 

[3 damage]

[2 damage]

[4 damage]

[You killed a small red forest wolf] 

[You leveled up!] 

[level 1->2]

The last messages were a blur for Kane, as the blood lost from the large wound on his side and the one on his leg made him lose his consciousness. The last thing he saw before losing everything to the darkness was the girl he saved running towards him, screaming while absolutely panicking. 

He woke up in a small room. A nice, cozy room with a flower on a small nightstand next to his bed. He stepped out of the bed and looked around him. The room was just big enough for him to be able to walk around without restraints. On the left of the bed was a big window, a rectangle one of 1 meter. It has an awesome view of the forest. On the right of the bed, on the wall behind the bed, was a door. Before he opened the door, he quickly glanced down at his body. 

{Wait, wasn't there a massive wound on my side? Where did it go? It's completely gone! Lust like my leg wound!?} 

"What happened!?" he accidentally exclaimed aloud. 

{Did leveling up heal all my wounds? The pain in my back is gone too. Now that I think about it, I must've gotten some skill points. Let's check my status really quickly.} 

Status] 

[Name: Kane Fujimoto]

[Age:16]

[Health: 7]

[Strength: 9] 

[Mana: 12] 

[Agility: 9]

[Sp: 4]

{Oh I got new Skill Points! Also, that wolf had massive hp, I hit it so many times yet it didn't want to die. Let's see. MY first hit did 3 damage. Then I got a critical hit for 22, so 25 damage. Then I hit it 4 more times, for 10 damage,so I did 35 damage total, meaning it has 35 Health. Compared to my 7 health, that's massive, that's 5 times my entire health pool!} 

Without Kane noticing, the door swept open with a loud *Creak* and slammed into the wall. 

"Woa what the fuck!" Kane screamed. 

There in the doorway stood a mysterious old man. 

"So you've awakened."
