4 Chapter 4

Volume 1 chapter 4

The start of a journey

It took a little while for the heart broken Kane to take complete control and regain his posture. The rest of his class had already left him, and had headed to the trail leading out of the woods, in search of a human settlement.

Kane looked around him again. The trail on his right seemed to stretch out for hundreds of kilometers, leading into huge mountains. Behind him, about half a day's walk, was an endless forest.

He had a new resolve to take revenge on his new foes. He could see a silhouette of his classmates travelling to the mountains so he chose the forest instead.

During his walk towards the forest, Kane inspected his status board.

{My stats aren't all that bad, i just hate my skills. Oh now that I look a little closer, there's little plusses behind my stats. I also have 1 sp. Could this work with Skill Points? I guess it doesn't hurt to give it a try. Then shall I put it into strength?}

Kane proceeds to try and click the little plus behind his stat called strength. Though, to his surprise, nothing happens.

{What the hell? This is how it works in games right? Are you supposed to use a mouse? Or maybe just think about doing it, like how you open the status.}

He makes his mind vacant of unnecessary thoughts before willing for all his Skill Points to go into strength..

[Status: Strength 8 -> 9]

[Name: Kane Fujimoto]

[Class: Hero(Type: Value)]

[Sex: Male]

[Age:16]

[Health: 7]

[Strength: 9]

[Mana: 12]

[Agility: 9]

[Sp: 0]

As the status showed Kane his new stats, he felt a strange, but soothing feeling rise from his toes all the way up to his head. It was as if all the fatigue in his body had vanished. He could feel the strength in his body. He wasn't all that weak before, but he felt like he had a better chance at surviving a next blow from Asahi. If he ran into Asahi again he'd have a better chance at surviving.

{How about I put my new strength to test} He thinks with a grin.

He looks around on the ground a little, until he finds a decent size rock, which fits his palm almost perfectly. As he grips it tightly, he chucks his hand back, and throws the stone with all his might. As he watches the stones' trajectory, the feeling of disappointment fills his head. Honestly, he expected a big change, like being able to throw the stone twice as far as usual, but in reality, it only landed maybe 2m farther than before he got transported.

Disappointed and disheartened, Kane continues his trip to the woods.

When he finally reached the forest, the sun seemed to start setting soon. Remembering basic knowledge from games, including the likes of M*n*cr*ft, it would be wise to assume that more monsters would start appearing. As there are demon lords, it's safe to assume that there must also be demonkin or something similar.

The forest he was about to enter was massive, to say the least. The trees stood so close together, they formed almost a straight wall, stretching maybe 5 kilometres on either side. The trees themselves were massive too. If Kane, who was about 178cm, were to lay down, he'd fit at least 2 times in the tree's width. that's how massive they were, not even their top could be seen. If one were to estimate their height, about 100 metres would be said at least.

{Well, I reached the woods, now what. I went here in hopes of finding a village, but seeing how dense this forest is, my mind has changed. This place must be packed with wild animals. Guess I'll just enter and hope for the best? } Kane looked around for anything that could be used as a weapon before settling with a rock.

He put on a straight face, cleared his resolve, grasped his newfound rock tightly and entered the forest.

When he stepped into the forest, it was like he entered a portal. Flowers he'd never seen before were flourishing amongst the trees. They appeared in a vibrant array of colors from the deepest purples to the lightest pink, just looking at them gave a sense of peace and calm that he was not able to find anywhere else.

Little animals like rabbits and boars hurried away as he closed in on them. About a 100 metres further in, the tree line opened up and showed a massive pond, just shy of being called a lake. About 40 metres in width and 70 in length. Deer could be seen drinking from the pond and small to large sized fish were peacefully swimming around.

"I guess things like these can still be beautiful." Kane muttered.

{But if there's water, that must mean there's life, meaning, there could be humans!}

With hope inside him he started walking along the shore with caution at maximum, heading east in the length of the pond

Having not even walked 10 metres, he was surprised to see when a girl suddenly appeared out of the tree-line. A beautiful town girl with a big barrel on her back, to transport water in.

From a distance the girl seemed to be the same age as kane. To find life right as he said he'd be sure to find people here, kind of made him happy in his heart, just enough, to soothe the pain a little bit, that he was still hiding in his heart.

When he was about to shout to the girl, he saw something move behind the girl. He stopped walking to have a closer look at the shadow he saw behind the girl. The shadow rose up and was now clearly visible. There stood a wolf. At least, what he thought to be a wolf.

The creature was a little bigger than a wolf. It was about 30 centimetres smaller than kane, and about 2 metres long. It had red fur with 2 grey lines on his back starting from his head. It's teeth were exposed and was slowly approaching the girl, which was filling her water barrel, not noticing what was happening behind her. He tried to warn her but she didn't hear him.

"Fuck she's going to be dog food if it catches her, and I haven't even asked her where she came from!"

Kane started running towards the girl praying he'd be just in time to prevent her from dying to the wolf's fangs
