40 Just Tell Me. (Chapter 39)

"Drake we shouldn't leave him." I whisper. My stomach flutters as the door closes on Damien. Something is wrong, he is keeping something from me but I'm not sure what. I can see the secret weighing on him, hurting him. Being here hurts him.

"I think we should give them a chance to talk. There are a few issues that I think he wants to keep private." Drake smiles, but it is a half smile. Something is bothering him too.

"What's wrong?" I ask.

"Nothing," he mumbles looking down. "Hey who was that girl in there? The one who slapped you." He asks with a mocking smirk licking his bottom lip.

"Damien's half sister. Fucking bitch." gritting my teeth. I look back to the door. I hear Drake chuckle, imitating the slap.

"Gotta give it to her, girls got balls." He laughed. "Don't you think you went a little overboard Though? I mean she didn't really know who you were." He says. I raise my eyebrow a smirk rising in my lips.

"Overboard? When I did shit to Kion THAT was overboard. This was harmless, they teach that spell to kids and you know that." I cross my arms. "Draaakkee...do you like her-"

"No!" He shouts and starts to walk off. I jog infront of him and he stops facing me annoyed.

"That response was too quick..You do!!" I squeal. He looks down smirking still shy. "Ahhhhh who'd believe that Drake Salvadore is crushing on the Lightning Princess. Such a funny world. You know what aisle would of said-"

"Don't get your hopes up she is out of your league." He chuckles and we smile simultaneously looking up rolling his eyes. He looks to meet my eye, a glimmer of excitement in them. He lost all joy when she left us. I'm glad too see he is getting it back. "Hey can you do me a a favour and not tell anyone. Ryan won't shut up about it and Damien..he'll break my nose." He snickers. I smile but agree to keep a secret. It's harmless.

"My lady, I am to take you to Lord Damien's room. And sir you shall be in the guest rooms." The young squire says. I look back to the door, no sign of Damien. We should probably go. We walk behind the young squire. My eyes were beginning to hurt due to all the light. The guards were clearly afraid of us, not making eye contact and backing up when we walked infront of them. We reached the stair case and it was so shiny I could hardly see the next step. The girls in the palace stopped and stared at Ryan and Drake, pointing and whispering loudly about them. Drake winked at a few girls and they erupted in squeals. He saw me roll my eyes and laughed patting me on the shoulder. Ryan held Lavria close by, he took her hand and they walked the hall together. Drake saw Their unusual public affection and looked at me for an explanation. I shrugged my shoulders but we both speculated the obvious. We reached Ryan's room and the squire bowed and ushered him inside.

"Someone will get you when it's time for Dinner My King." He said. Ryan looked at Lavria and so did I. She didn't look too good, almost like she was sick, or traumatised. He insisted for Lavria to stay with him. She graciously accepted and They both went inside as Ryan shot me one last look of concern before closing the door. We walked on and Drake the squire opened the door for Drake.

"Can you give me a minute to talk to Karina?" Drake said. The squire nodded and went to the other side of the hall. "Karina you need to be really careful." He said in a hushed tone. "Damien may be your soulmate, but he is hiding something. I was thinking something isn't adding up. Remember that day when I went to visit him in the dungeons. He Already knew about his father's crimes before the trial. Yet he didn't think to mention it to us until AFTER his father was gone. Karina I don't know what is happening here, but it's deeper than Isla's murder. He knows more than he is letting on." He whispered. I needed answers from Drake about Damien. I needed it not to be true.

"Drake when Damien almost died due to when Kion stabbed him.. How was he healed?" I asked.

"Wait, He didn't tell you?" That gave me the confirmation I needed. "Karina, the healing you performed shouldn't be possible. You can tap into the darkest parts of our magic and The difference is we KNOW why you can. My concern is, we don't know how can he? Somehow he is connected to Dark magic but not through you. There is something deeper going on here Karina. So please, promise me you will be careful. I will not lose another person I love at the hands of a lightning-"

"Damien would never hurt me.."

"He would never hurt you, but his family would. And they did." He was right, I hadn't thought about it like that like that. Drake went into his room shooting me a nod making sure I acknowledged what he said. We walked a little further.

"My lady this is Lord Damien's room. Dinner will be soon. You may want to change." looking up and down my black attire. He opened the door not meeting my eye and ushered me inside. He bowed and left in a hurry. I chuckled and closed the door behind him. Damien's room was unlike any room I had seen. It was light. But I think it was the darkest room of them all. I could actually see. His bed was massive, clean cut and sharp on the edges. The carpet was white (obviously) but soft, and quiet when you walked on it. The fire crackled but sweetly as the sound mellowed the room. There was a massive chair by his bed that rolled into a lounger. Artistic and beautiful. The grandness of his curtains was light, but blocked out the sun. I guess Damien always liked the dark. On the wall was a massive painting , it was of the woods. The woods that were somewhat familiar. I traced my fingers over it feeling every inch of the dried paint. It was beautiful.

"Having fun?" My heart jumped and I snap around to see Damien closing the door smiling his eyes latched on me. I turn around back to the painting and my eyes mesmerised by the pure skill taken to make such a piece. "It calms me. The way it's made, is so familiar. I feel...connected to it." He is now standing next to me, admiring the image. I cross my arms, tilting my head. "I'm sorry." He says. "I should've told you." He moves away and sits on the bed. Exhaling loudly.

"Take off your shirt." I say. I turn around to see him slightly confused.

"Why?" He says narrowing his eyes at me.

"I want to see the wound." My jaw tightens, I need to see if it's true. He exhales but He unbuttons his shirt and takes it off standing up throwing it to the side. I put my hand to my mouth. There was no scar, left from Kions sword. Everything was gone. I walk over to him and trace my hand over his abs. His scent of Vanilla, intoxicating.

"How?" My voice quivering. He looks to me, the gold of his eyes melting mine.

"You know how-"

"How did YOU do it?" I asked sternly.

"I don't know."

"Don't bullshit me Damien there has been too much of that for one day." He suddenly grabs my hand getting my attention. He rubs his thumb circularly on the back of my hand.

"I don't know how I did it Karina. I swear it." His lips inches from mine. "When I came to Valtor..I felt something in me awaken. It had been there dormant, sleeping. And when I came and you touched me," he placed my hand on his chest. "And when you used magic on me. Everything changed. The way I thought, slept, fought...everything. It was always there, a part of me buried deep down. I just..didn't know what it was..until you. You awoke the darkness in me." He lifted my chin so that I met his eyes. "When Isla died, and I was arrested. You believed with every inch of your heart that I was innocent. You trusted me. And I need you to trust me now." He whispered.

"Damien, your're still not telling me something. Please, tell me. maybe I can help." I plead. He snatches his eyes away, suddenly heavy. Hewants to say something, it's too big of a burden to bear alone. He contemplates for a moment, but He opens his mouth-

"Dinner is served My lord" says a voice through the door. Moment faded, Damien pulls away from me and snatched his shirt from the floor. He looked back at me before slipping through the door with heavy eyes. Drake was right. He IS hiding something. But it's too painful to tell me.
