Prey

"Alec don't you dare walk away from me!" Shrieked a high voice from behind him. "Come back here this once!"

A young man slammed the doors shut behind him and stormed away from the infuriating women. How dare she tell him how to live his existence! She had no right! His eyes glinting, if looks could kill that women would be six feet under the ground. Seeing his master angered, a young butler, appearing in his early thirties, approached Alec as the man walked towards the front doors.

"Sir, will you be needing a carriage?" Spoke the butler, easily keeping pace with his master.

"No Jasper, I won't be gone for long" The man said through gritted teeth. It was clear that his master was not in the mood to argue and so the butler immediately returned to his post, his eyes full of concern as Jasper stared at the young masters retreating figure.

The man sped out of the mansion and through the woods surrounding the estate. He was infuriated at the thought of his Aunt trying to lecture him about his life. A red haze started to cover his vision as he continued to race though the forest towards the closest human settlement, a small town known as Riverrung. He needed to cool off, a mischievous grin starting to spread across his face, and what better way to do that then going hunting!

Once Alec arrived at the small town, he examined the humans, trying to scope out his prey. It was still quite early in the morning so there were not that many people out so few would notice if someone disappeared. His gaze zoned in on an elderly man aged from mid to late 70's, his breathing was heavy and uneven. The man seemed to be running out of time, better to die a quick death then to suffer from a long battle. Alec's eyes saddened, he quickly shook his head to dismiss the memory. Narrowing his gaze, all of his attention fixed on the weak elder that would soon become his breakfast. Alec was about to launch into an attack when a figure caught his eye. Someone was sneaking down the road towards the forest. He peers closer to examine the person but there was a hood which hid their face from any prying eyes.

As Alec watched the stanger travel down the road, he noticed that the figure limped. A wide smirk appeared on his face. He was no coward but that would be much easier target to focus on, since there would be no one within earshot to hear the person's screams. The sun had started to creep over the mountains so he would have to hurry to avoid being seen. Sticking close to the shadows of the trees, Alec followed the figure in black towards the forest. They stopped just at the forests edge, peering around to make sure they were not being followed, then the figure slipped into the forests depths. How odd.

Alec sprinted after them. The sun had risen, coating everything in a orangey-gold hue. He ran effortlessly though the tightly nit trees, following the figure. Alec stops running and finds himself near a small river. The golden sunlight shone through the trees, sending dancing streaks of light onto the soft grass. Where did his prey go?! Alec gazed around the area, his almost black eyes eagerly searching for the mysterious figure. Finally his eyes focused on the black hood of his prey.

The figure was crouching behind a large tree, a bow ready and loaded with a deadly arrow. Alec followed the direction the figure was focused on and found a graceful doe standing by the waters edge. He stared at his prey as they readied themself. The figure removed their hood, revealing their face. Alec stood dumbfounded for what seemed like eternity. A young woman stood before him. She was dressed in very old clothes; baggy pants, a shirt and cracked leather boots that looked far too big for her. The clothes looked like they'd been mended far too many times and had faded to a greyish black. Her golden-brown hair was tied and plated down her back in a loose braid. A few strands stuck out on her head as she tried to tuck them back into place. The girl had very soft features; small straight nose, full pink lips and big eyes the colour of blue ice. She seemed extremely frail and tired as she aimed the arrow at the doe.

Alec found himself intrigued by this interesting female so he watched from the darkness of the forest that surrounded them. She was about to let her arrow fly when she froze. Quickly, she removed the arrow out of the bow and carefully placed it back into the quiver. The vampire was confused and slightly disappointed that he didn't get to see this frail girl kill the doe. The female soundlessly crept away from the deer and started to walk back to the town without looking back.

Alec crept closer to see if he could get some idea as to why the girl had abandoned the kill so suddenly. There in amongst the shrubbery, lay a small fawn. It's big round eyes staring innocently around at its surroundings. Alec was infuriated and annoyed, he couldn't believe that she had abandoned the kill because if a fawn! He couldn't tell for sure because of her clothes, but the female looked staved and almost anoxic. She deserves something to eat! He turned to follow the girl back to the town, his eyes full of anger.
