6 Chapter Six -

He was coming for me…

Blanched and terrified, I found my limbs growing terribly weak and my heartbeat increasing rapidly with such fervour intensity that it had my soul feeling like tearing up. This was a nightmare; a dreadful trap that had clutched my throat and was feeding on my sanity. The police could do nothing to save me. They were as much clueless; as blank as I was about this guy. Her had an advantage, the upper hand, and he was using it to toy with my soul. I found my breath growing weak and shaky.

Among the storm of panic, Maggie seemed to have noticed my hyperventilating status and was soon rushing to my aid.

"Get Grace a glass of water!" she screamed over the noise, as she lowered before me and tapped my face. "It's going to be alright. We won't let him get to you. It's going to end. If he is our man, then this is all going to be over. Relax." She tried assuring, but all those words seemed empty in my ears. We all knew the severity of all that was going to happen. If Sid was coming here, then he was going to cause mayhem, he was going to leave a mark. I have read about criminal cases like this. People with huge IQs, they intend to over-smart many.

Knowing that there was no time to deal with nervous breakdowns at the moment, Maggie got back up on her feet and continued barking out orders to everyone. The police were appearing for the arrival of one of their most notorious criminals.

This was going to be news.

Desperately grabbing hold of a glass of cold water that was handed to me, cupping it with my hands, I was just in process of hungrily gulping it down when Maggie loudly announced, "The men have brought Sid into the building!"

Shoot! Water was quick to clog my throat.

Getting entrapped in a horrible fit of coughing, I was aching for sheer air as Maggie began giving out instructions.

"So, the men's department are allowing their stenographer in on the whole interrogation. The work of the stenographer will type everything that's being said and seen during the interrogation of Sid. The stenographer's typed words will be displayed on all of our monitor screens. Any sings of suspicion or lies detected should be reported at once! And someone please get one of the monitor systems connected with my office's computer. Grace and I will be using that."

"Yes, captain!" It was Sana who quickly gave a salute.

With a bright blue light flashing out of a hanging computer screen, Maggie and I were now sitting a few feet away from it, sitting on comfy armchairs. Maggie was holding a case-file and a black pen, whilst I had my hands occupied in clawing the leather of my chair. The tension, the discovery was to be astounding. I could feel my soul aching with nervousness.

Just after a few moments, the police were going to interrogate someone who could be my potential stalker, a deadly psychopath. They had given me strict instructions to see if I could find any familiarity, recognisable hints during the whole process of interrogation. They believed that if this was really him, then there was going to be a full loaded pandora box about to be unleashed. I felt like wincing with that though. A whole pandora box. The real Sid would only come here for one purpose alone; to torment me.

How would the police manage to stop him doing just that?

Tangled between whether I should start biting my nails or fidget with my fingers, I gasped as the computer lights suddenly flickered and black-coloured words began appearing on it.

The suspect has been brought into the interrogation room. He has both of his hands handcuffed and it looks like someone in his late twenties. A black mask, seemingly glues, is covering only half of his face, revealing only his eyes and a dark set of hair, and his stance seems dark and overly smug. He seems too calm and collected, given the circumstances.

Maggie and I shared a look at this.

This was definitely Sid.

The witness is now being seated. A sense of dark authority and dangerous notions seems to be emitting from this guy's aura. Inspector Khan is going to start with the interrogations now.

Inspector Khan: - let's forget the pleasantries. Sid, you have been brought here under the suspicion of masterminding numerous crimes over the past decade. We have concrete evidence to prove your involvements in the Gorilla Towers Scandal, along with many other scandals. So, unless you want life imprisonment, you better start talking. You have committed severe offences. Cases like yours aren't even given a chance to talk, so you better start paying for all the offences.

Suspect: - okay. What do you want to know?

Inspector Khan: - Sid, you are facing the severe allegations of being FBI's most wanted criminal. We have data files reporting that you keep up your façade by working as a top-notch lawyer at a renowned firm. Your colleagues call you sweet, kind and a wonderful person to work with. What has compelled you to lead such a double life? Your actions completely contradict your daily life behaviour.

This was insane, crazy…this newfound information had me clawing the armrest. So Sid was also a lawyer. He had been manipulative enough to fool all those around him. Sweet, wonderful to work with…I had read documentaries like this. Most psychopaths worked that way; they were overly manipulative, charming and had a convenient façade to hid their darkness. These people had such crazy IQs, it was insane. I couldn't just look away from the computer now.

Suspect: - because I wanted to.

It was as simple as that for him. Psychotic! Maggie had started stressfully taking notes now. The police were dealing with an incredibly unstable man, here. Every statement counted.

Inspector Khan: - Sid, I don't think you are understanding the severity of your situation. Your lack of seriousness will only add more intensity to the level of punishment you are going to receive. So are you accepting that you have been masterminding various crimes for the past decade and just recently started stalking an innocent woman?

Suspect: - yes.

Inspector Khan: - O-okay. Now tell me what was your motive in committing all those crimes?

Suspect: - what crimes?

Seriously?

Inspector Khan: - Sid, please try to understand-

Suspect: - I did it for you.

What? Quickly glancing in Maggie's direction, I gulped as she gave me a sheer baffled look.

Inspector Khan: - for me?

The inspector asked exactly what I was thinking.

Suspect: - I did it for you, Grace. I know you can hear me…this is all for you. I am here for you.

Immediately, I found colours leaving my soul. What on earth! He was talking to me…sending me a message. I never felt so creeped out and scared before. My dreads had been proven right. Sid was here for me. He had always been two steps ahead of the police and knew that I would be here, listening, more like reading, his confession statements. It made sense now. This notorious criminal only got imprisoned to become direct…with me. He was definitely going to escape and take me along. I had never felt so trapped.

Curling up on my chair, I eyed Maggie standing and anxiously walking towards the computer screen. The sound of my whimpers was now subtly mixing with the air.

Inspector Khan: - Sid, if you are not going to co-operate, then I think you should be taken back to your cell now. I am done here.

"Detective Maggie!" the door to Maggie's office now slammed opened as Sana barged inside. "There is an emergency."

"What?" Maggie urged, making my nerves tangle with anxiety.

"There is a woman crying and screaming outside our office, claiming that the police has taken the wrong guy into custody."

"Who is she?" Maggie demanded, taking a step closer towards the door. My breath hitched.

"She is claiming to be Sid's wife."
