5 Forgiveness is the First Step to Happiness

I smiled at the professor and held my hands behind my back. "I don't know who he was, but I can give you a description of the events that occurred." He nodded, signaling me to continue. I leaned against his desk, yawning a bit before I continue. "I was reading late at night outside the dormitories, and was heading back. I stopped because I saw a demon boy beating up a smaller boy of Ushi-oni descent." The professor's eyes widened and he shook his head.

"Could you describe this demon for me?" I watched as one student made their way to the back of the class, but continued with a lowered voice. "He has red iris' with sharply pointed pupils, brown hair that had dyed red tips, and he was dark skinned." He nodded yet again towards me. "Did you and the Ushi-oni boy seek treatment?" I crossed my arms. "I believe so, I awoke in the infirmary." He quirked an eyebrow and frowned. "Did you leave without proper treatment?" I shrugged gently and looked to the side.

"No one was there, so I left." He sighed to himself and wrote down more on the paper. "I'll inform campus security and teachers to send him to the principal, you may be called later." I nodded and sat down, taking out my book and reading again. After a few minutes, students started filing in.

I heard a squeal from a girl, who quickly sat next to me. I smiled, quickly recognizing the bubbly personality. "Hello, Kai." I now realized that her squeal was one of concern, seeing a worried expression overtake her face. "Oh my gosh, what happened to you, beauty?!" Her hand went under my chin and she moved my face so she could see the area around my eye patch better. She let go and stared at me, anger filling her eyes. "Who hurt you? I'll murder them with a tornado."

My eyes widened and I shook my head. "It's okay, Kai. I'm fine, seriously." She hit the desk gently. "Explain, now." I blinked, worried for my safety, and I heard a voice to my right. "Yeah, you better explain that to me as well." I looked to see Kyro passing in front of me, then sit next to Kai. I sighed to myself and started to explain myself. I could see the anger building in Kai's eyes as I finished speaking.

"If he ever talks to you again, I'm gonna pummel him." Kyro chuckles. "I second that." I smile a little and I hear a voice chirp up behind me. "Yeah missy, don't think I wasn't angry either." I turned to see Seth and Joshua in their seats. Joshua was resting his chin on his hand, Seth sitting up straight. "He's already angered an air nymph, a dragon. Not to mention he's got a medium angry, and a enraged reaper." I shook my head at Seth. I find it odd that all of them clicked so easily with me, but it's somewhat normal for supernaturals to make quick friends.

"I'm not mad at the kid, I just wish he would've handled things differently. Besides, the school is taking care of it." I smiled a little and Seth slumped a little, I noticed Kai did as well. I sent traces of a happy mood towards them and Seth huffed. "No fair, you can make me not mad." I chuckled a little, nervously, then the professor cleared his voice. "Alright everyone. Please listen carefully, this, as well as everything we review, is important knowledge." I took out my notebook and pen, ready to take notes. The professor smiled at the class. "Okay. Let's begin."

Our professor gave a presentation on how to fit in to the world, but unlike when we were younger, this gave in depth descriptions of how to hide our abilities. Our lesson was cut short as an announcement rang through the intercoms. "May I see Llesme Ever to the principle's office?" The professor smiled at me and spoke loudly. "Sure thing." I stood up grabbing my bag, assuming this was about my situation yesterday. When I arrived at the front office, I knocked on the principle's door.

"Come in." I heard an annoyed voice ring out, clearly that of a woman. I entered to see the demon boy sitting with his arms crossed, clearly agitated. I glanced upward to see a woman who appeared to be a Kelpie. Kelpies commonly have other supernaturals gift them with the ability to shape shift. The only reason I could identify her so easily was due to her obsession with dark colors in the room, along with her extremely long black hair.

I stepped in further and the woman spoke, using the same tone as before. "Take a seat." I sat down softly and directed my attention to the principle. "After he tells me what happened, you'll tell me what happened from your point of view. If I sense you or Mister Ramirez are lying, I'll ask for a mind reader." I tensed up at the thought but relaxed, knowing I had nothing to hide. She directed her sharp gaze towards the demon, keeping her eyes glued on him.

"Speak." He gulped and spoke. "Honestly m'am, I was walking through the hall to get to the water fountain when I found her picking on some really small kid. She made me feel panicked and I punched her. I ran away because I didn't know if I could take her." The whole time he stared back at her, watching to see if she believed him. She squinted and made a small humming sound, then turned to me.

"You." I nodded and started to tell her what transpired. "I was walking to my dorm late last night after I had fallen asleep outside under the biggest tree on campus." I looked at her mouth seeing it twitch in agitation. "When I entered that hallway I could hear yelling, so I went to see what was wrong. I found him standing above the small Ushi-Oni boy, who already looked worse for wear." The demon boy silently snarled and I looked back at the kelpie woman.

"I asked him to stop hurting him and he started to threaten me, telling me to go away..." I felt a small amount of heat on my neck and I glanced at the boy, his eye had a spark in it. "MISTER RAMIREZ!" He looked back at her, fear in his eyes. "IF YOU USE POWERS ON ANYONE YOU WILL FIND OUT HOW QUICKLY CHRISTIANS ARE WILLING TO KILL SOMEONE WITH HORNS. HAVE I MADE MYSELF CLEAR?!"

Her voice became darker when she yelled. It had more of a screech to it, almost like echo-location or radio static. He backed away and nodded over and over. The kelpie woman huffed and straightened her blouse. "Continue." I sat further back in my chair, slightly frightened of her myself. "That's when he punched me in my already injured eye, you can see it a bit past my eye patch." She squinted and nodded, signaling for me to continue.

"I fell to the ground as he ran away from me and the other boy. As I began to lose consciousness I blacked out." She continued to look over my face for a minute as she decided if I was telling the truth or not. She nodded to herself after a few minutes and wrote down on papers as she started a conversation. "Miss Ever is clearly telling the truth. I've already spoken with Mister Kyoto and his description matches with Miss Ever's perfectly." She snapped her fingers and two buff looking men walked in.

"Take Mister Ramirez to his dorm. He will be packing his things and leaving before sunset." His eyes widened as he started to be dragged out by the men. He begins to yell out in desperation. "Wait, please! I don't have anywhere to go! I'll die if I'm seen like this!" I clutched my hands together and closed my eyes, hoping this wouldn't get me in trouble too. "Wait!" The sounds stop, no more dragging noises. The room falls completely silent. I open my eyes to find the kelpie woman staring at me.

Her eyes are fixed on me, her pupils pin points in her frustration. I gulp and stand up. "Please don't expel him. Give him a second chance." She glares at me and a little huff of air exits her nostrils. "Why should I? He put students in danger." I look back at him for a second and turn back to her. "He could apologize to us. If he does it again, then he may deserve it." The agitation was evident in her face, but I persisted. "Everyone deserves a second chance." She looks me up and down and sighs, pushing up her thin framed glasses.

"Mister Ramirez." He straightens his back and looks at her. "Yes m'am?" She crosses her arms and stands up. "I think you owe her an especially big apology." He nods and walks closer to me. I face him, I could now see little details in him that I couldn't see before. His hair had a lot of natural shine and his face was littered with very tiny freckles.

He took a deep breath in, looked me in the eye, and spoke with regret. "I'm sorry Llesme for hurting you and being terrible to you for no reason. I shouldn't have done that." I smile a little and hold out my hand for him to grab. "You're forgiven." He looks a little shocked but takes my hand with a nervous smile. When our hands connect, I send a wave of comfort through him. His shoulders droop slightly and he closes his eyes, letting out a relieved sigh. When his eyes open again, I greet him with a brighter smile and release his hand.

"Now, both of you should be heading back to your classrooms. Please take note that if you have not returned to class in six minutes, there will be consequences." With that we rushed out of the office, incredibly happy to be alive. My shoes clicked against the concrete hallways that were naturally opened to the outside. After we had passed a few columns, I heard a soft voice. "I'm sorry." A little startled, I looked to my right so see the demon boy staring at the ground while walking.

I smiled a little to myself, but not liking the sad expression he had on his face. "Hey, it's alright. You apologized to me, just make sure you apologize to him too." I could feel the negativity that was running through his mind, self hatred and torment flooding my mind. I pushed the thoughts out of my head and sent him something he probably had not experienced a lot of. Kindness. I saw his eyes widen like saucers and he shuddered a bit. "You don't have to tell me why you did it, but, if you'd like, we can be friends?" He looked at me and stopped in front of a doorway, I'm assuming his lecture hall.

"But I've only hurt you since the second we met..." A small smile crept its way to my mouth. I slowly reached out, sliding my hands in his. The darkly colored hands which held many callouses rested in mine, not daring to move. I squeezed his hand tightly and looked him in the eyes, his red iris' gazing back at me with such an apologetic energy. "Let's start over." His eyes softened, no longer holding such sadness. "My name's Llesme. What's yours?" A true smile reached his face, revealing his slightly pointed canines. "Mateo!"
