41 Hospital Wing

When Diana woke up she found herself in a long white, knee length gown. Surrounded by one person beds with baby blue covers and a silver, metal frame.

Unfamiliar sheets around her, her hair brushed and cleaned beneath her. She felt something warm clutching her right hand gently. As she turned her head she saw Alex asleep head resting on the bed a slight smile on her lips. The remanance of her dream like a faded memory.

"Ah, your awake," she heard a mans voice to her left, as her face returned to its normal demeanor she turned her head to see a middle aged man. Short hazel hair brushed neatly back with a clean shaved face his chestnut eyes full of intelligence and kindness.

"I'm doctor Nix but everyone calls me Hugo," he explained "the crown prince brought you here last night, you were fast asleep and he hasn't left your side since even when I was treating your injuries. He said he made you a promise but I have to say, you have some pretty nasty wounds."

"How long till I can get out of here?" Diana asked her voice coming out weaker than usual.

"I'd like to keep you here for a little while to make sure your completely healed because from what I hear you'll charge into dangerous situations and battles without a thought for your own life."

"W-what about the o-others?" Diana asked as she began to cough bringing her left hand to her mouth.

"Diana, you ok?" she heard Alex ask as he and Hugo sat her up "I-I'm....f-fine," she coughed.

"How about you try and convince us of that when you can stop coughing?" Alex berated.

After a few minutes she stopped coughing and Alex and Hugo helped her lay back down.

"To answer your previous question I had a report from one of the knights around an hour ago that their still helping with the fire and everything. Before you even think about it I'm telling you you're not going to even try to go and help until you get an all clear." Alex warned.

"As for your coughing fits," Hugo began "I believe it's from all the smoke you inhaled it should subside soon."

"Ok thank you," she thanked.

"Well I'll leave you be," Hugo said "get me if you need anything." After that he left Diana and Alex.

Soon after she drifted back to sleep her dream a barrage of old memories but she could feel Alex beside her the whole time.

Diana drifted in and out of consciousness for a few hours coughing every time she woke up. Catching glimpses of conversation as she drifted between sleep and consciousness.

"Hey, you alright need some water?" Alex asked as she woke up his sooty top on the floor by the bed a fresh navy v-neck top on.

"Water would be nice," she said as Alex poured her a drink and helped her sit up. He carefully brought the drink to Dianas lips letting her sip on the water before putting it down and tucking her back in.

They talked for an hour or so, Hugo came in to check on her and then left again. Diana coughed every once in awhile.

Mid way through their conversation Alex made her giggle drawing a smile from them both when Diana started coughing again but harder. Alex' smile vanished just like her's did as he quickly helped her sit up.

Even after a few minutes she still couldn't stop coughing making her throat burn, her body curling up around and sweat bleeding down her face.

Alex came and sat on the bed next to Diana pulling her onto his lap and holding her close. Gently stroking her back as tears streamed down her cheeks.

"Sssshhhhhh it's ok, it's ok," Alex assured as she just kept coughing harder and harder. "HUGO!!! HUGO!!!" Alex called out his voice seemingly laced with panic.

Hugo came running in and saw her coughing and wheezing in Alex' lap "How long has she been coughing?" he asked coming to check on Diana.

"More then five minutes," Alex said fear in his ruby eyes.

"From what I can tell there isn't anything we can do we just need to let her ride it out," Hugo informed watching Diana cough harder in Alex' lap.

"There has to be something!" Alex said frantically.

"A-Alex..." Diana weezed between coughs "I-I'm...f-fine."

"You lier," Alex said pulling her closer as she continued to cough.

After a few more minutes Diana finally stopped and after Hugo checked her he left the room telling them to call him if they needed him.

"Are you sure your ok?" Alex asked worriedly hugging her tight.

"Yeah," she replied as he wiped away her tears and brushed her hair back behind her ears.

They stayed like that in a quiet calm and instead of feeling any awkwardness Diana just felt safe and comfortable.

"You know you can go get cleaned up," she finally spoke.

"No I'm fine here," Alex replied.

"Seriously Alex you stink of smoke go get washed up," she said in a tired voice.

"Fine but only if you promise you won't go do anything stupid,"

"I don't do stupid things,"

"Oh, so you didn't run into a burning building? Or jump out of the third floor window of the orphanage without knowing anyone was there to catch you?" Alex asked sarcastically while raising an eyebrow.

"Either way we all made it out alive besides..." Diana trailed of before muttering "I trusted one of you would catch me."

"Fine you win," Alex caved setting her down on the bed.

As he walked to the door Diana called out "Oh, and Alex if you don't mind, can you get my hair piece of my desk for me?"

"Sure," and with that he left an hour or two later she woke up from some of her most haunting memories to find Alex beside her.

"Here," he said handing Diana her hair pin as she pushed herself up. After taking it she used it to tigh her hair into a messy bun as Alex got a towel and wiped the sweat of her face.

"Have you coughed that much since I left?"

"Not as badly as before," she replied "but it's boring in here." she moaned. "Besides I hate hospitals."

"Why?"

"....I had to visit them a few times after some of my worst beatings like when I was beaten so hard I was on the verge of death but I always hated them. The looks in peoples eyes so full of fear a few of happiness or dread. They seemed to save so many people and yet harbour so much pain and anguish." she explained.

"Fair enough, but you can't leave yet,"

"Why not? I feel fine,"

"Tell me if you were let out, would you take it easy or would you take off to go to the orphanage to help?"

"I'd go to the orphanage of course,"

"So you can see that considering your current state why we won't let you out." Alex retorted.

"Then I'll just leave myself, it's not like I've cared for anyone's rules before," Diana declared getting out from under the covers and slowly swinging her legs to the left side of the bed. Turning her back to Alex.

"You can't just leave Diana!"

"Watch me," she replied in her usual nonchalant demeanor pushing herself off, of the bed feeling pain surge from her right thigh.

'Damnit I must of set it of yesterday,' she thought limping towards the door.

"Diana, get back in bed!" Alex ordered to which she ignored, as she reached out for het swords ,however, Diana felt light headed and before shw could stop herself she went hurtling towards the ground.

Just as she was about to hit the floor Alex caught her, lifting Diana up and tucking her back into bed.

"I told you that was a stupid idea, Hugo said you made your leg worse with your recklaceness and that you should try to rest it. To which I told him would be impossible because you hate sitting still." Alex berated.

The next day the others came to check on Diana they stayed for a few hours before Hugo sent them home.

After they left Emma came hurtling in, a ball of energy as always, King Brian and Queen Valeria behind her they gave Dian an update on the orphanage while Emma kept saying how brave she was.

After a week of boredom and the others taking shifts to make sure she wouldn't leave Hugo finally let her out.

"Thank you for the help Hugo but I really hope I never have to come back here," Diana said as she left swords at her hips in a fresh pair of clothes.

"Don't injure yourself like you have been and you wont have to," he smiled.

Without a word she left. Heading straight over to the training ground.
