Forbidden To Become A Knight

After knocking on the door Diana waited for a few seconds before she heard her fathers voice from inside call out "Come in,"

After gaining permission to enter she opened the door ready to make her argument and finally be allowed to become a knight.

"Diana," her mother smiled warmly upon seeing her enter.

"Hello mother, hello father. I'm not bothering you am I?"

"Not at all," Diana's father replied looking up from his documents "is there something you need?" he asked curiously.

She gripped her confidence tight not letting it falter now when she needs it most. Diana is normally a head strong, confident young lady but these people are dangerous and although she hates to admit it they scare her. "Yes, actually father. There is,"

"What is it my?" Diana's mother asked as she stood behind Diana's father.

"I would like to talk to you about me becoming a knight," As soon as Diana mentioned becoming a knight a coldness entered their eyes menacing and cruel and the temperature in the room dropped but she won't back down. Before her parents could speak she continued "I understand that you don't want me to become a knight for my own safety however I'd be safer if I could fight there is a war going on between the kingdoms of Fortis and Nobilis I should know how to fight back if ever they see to drag the Kingdom of Malum into the war our Kingdom. Besides I have always followed your rules and done everything you say. This is the only time I've ever fought back for anything I really want."

Diana could tell her parents were trying to keep a straight face as the malice in their eyes increased and they answered as calmly and controlled as possible.

"Diana, darling you have Knights to protect you and your brother already fights for our Kingdom and if he gets killed in battle like you say the other two kingdoms could see to include us in the war then you'd be the only one left to rule but if you get killed in battle there'd be no legitimate heir to the thrown left. You must think of the Kingdom not just yourself." Her mother replied trying to sound sweet but Diana could see right through that facade.

"I am thinking about the kingdom if I become a knight I won't only be able to protect myself from people who seek to kill me or my family but also to defend the Kingdom." Diana argued back against her mother keeping a calm and in control aura around her and not letting her own face give away her agitation with what they were saying.

"But Diana it's to dangerous your a princess not a knight," her father tried to reason with Diana but it was pointless.

"So is it my gender or title that prevents me from becoming a knight in your eyes?" Diana asked growing even more agitated with her parents.

"That's not what we're saying Diana," Malum's king tried again to convince his daughter not to become a knight without insulting her further.

"Then what are you saying?" Diana asked them inquiringly. They were really starting to agitate her.

"We're saying that becoming a knight is dangerous and we don't want our precious little baby girl to become a knight." Her father answered trying to sound tender but in Diana's honest opinion he utterly failed.

"Presides darling, you're 15 you're at an age where you can get engaged. You don't need to concern yourself with silly things like becoming a knight," the queen added.

"I'm no longer a child I can handle dangerous situations, everyday is a dangerous situation, everyday there's a chance we'll be dragged into this on going war. To add to that I have no intentions on marrying as people will only wish to marry me for wealth and power and presides I've never held any interest in marriage." Diana continued not giving them time too retort " Also my desire to become a knight is not silly it is one of my greatest ambitions and I will achieve it. I came here today to get your blessing not your permission to become a knight."

"Diana we will not allow you to follow this so called ambition. This is the last time we want to hear of this," Diana's father replied as his voice became stern and full authority. It became that of a king, the documents in his hands began to crease as his grip on them tightened.

Anyone else would have flinched at his tone and demeanour Diana's mother's demeanour became much more regal and full of authority as well. However, Diana is not anybody else and her mother and father may scare her but over the years it's turned from fear to hatred and distain and that won't change anytime soon.

Her parents thought that was the end of the discussion but she won't ever back down and shes had enough of letting them win.

"No mother, no farther this is not the end of the discussion and I will continue to bring up the subject until you agree to allow me to become a knight."Diana declared standing firm.

"You insolent brat," the queen roared in anger "I forbid you to ever become a knight as long as you live in the Kingdom of Malum," her mother declared and Diana's father agreed.

"You can't be serious?" Diana asked not at all astonished by his. They can't be serious. As the king and queen of this Kingdom if they forbid her from becoming a knight then it is technically a decree.

"Diana we are being serious as long as you live in the borders of this Kingdom you are forbidden from becoming a knight. Now go we will see you at dinner." Diana's father roared and she knew she only had one choice. So Diana turned on her heels and yanked open the door slamming it shut behind her and headed to her room.

'They've made it clear, as long as I live in the Kingdom of Malum I'm forbidden from becoming a knight.' Diana thought to herself as she walked along the corridors.
