Realizing What Happened

      "G-Go!" Mason hissed, shoving Nick and Jamie back towards the path and the rest of the men, "Go!  I will distract her!"

      A roar came from the dragon as it worked to climb up over the sloping ground.  She dug her talons into the dirt to steady herself as she moved.

      Mason drew his sword and faced her but kept moving backward, hoping to stall long enough for his friends to get away.

      "We can't leave you here!" Nick shouted, grabbing Mason's arm, "Come on!"

      "Go!" Mason ordered again, "You can get away!"

      "Not without you!" Jamie shouted, grabbing Mason's other arm.
