"Are you okay?" Dan asked, turning around to look at Bella when he remembered that he had noticed she was favoring one foot over the other earlier when she approached him and his mother.

They were on their way out of the hall where the charity event was taking place after he had finished giving the opening address and talking to some of the guests he recognized.

"Yes sir," Bella said with a forced smile despite the fact that the shoe was hurting her badly and she was certain she had blisters on her foot already.

"Walk ahead of me then," Dan said, cocking his head to the side for her to move.

"Excuse me?" She asked, hoping she hadn't heard him correctly.

"I said, walk ahead of me. I need to be sure that you're okay since we still have so much we need to do," Dan repeated patiently.
