1 Losing Everything

Wandering the streets of the royal capital Tracy, Jon's hunger overwhelmed his senses. His family had just disowned him, after finishing second at the Gallia Academy of Medicine.

He traipsed along the cold stone pathway and searched the gloomy alleys for food. He has hypoglycemia and is about to lose consciousness. He searched and searched for anything that might fill even the tiniest space of his grumbling gut. He found a rotten apple but its stench killed his hunger.  He longed for when he was still a part of his clan, the noble house of Bisset.

He continued his search, enduring the sheer chills of the evening breeze. He desperately held on to consciousness as he begged God for food. He knelt and prayed that may he find something to satisfy his need.

With the sudden stream of the southern wind, the starry night sky became a dark void. Then moments later, a cold rain showered the streets of the capital. Jon was greatly disheartened.

"What could go worse than this?" he thought. He walked by the stone cut road, where the carousels and horses ride to.

He wished for his demise. His hunger, the cold, and all the pain is just too much for him. He knelt and looked at the rain-drenched sky. His ears became deaf and his skin became numb. He could still clearly see but the rain decreased his visibility.

He shifted his sight from above to ahead of him. He saw a white horse with a rider, heading towards him at full speed. He knew he was going to be hit but his numbness made him unable to move. Alas! The rider got closer. Jon tried to move but he had a hard time. He wished to die, but still he clung to life. He wanted to continue on to life no matter how painful and difficult it may be. Then with the last of his strength, he managed to move and just in time to avoid the horse.

Jon fell unconscious and the rider that nearly hit him came back. The rider wore very fine clothes with intricate designs and a cravat with the a gem that had the symbol of the royal family.

The stranger easily lifted Jon and carried him to his horse. He placed Jon on top of the horse and walked towards a certain street. The same street where Jon failed to get first place. The street where the Gallia Academy of Medicine is located.

The stranger carried Jon and went inside the building. He placed him in the nearest bed and called on the most skilled doctors to attend Jon. The doctors knew what to do and diagnosed Jon of hypothermia with hypoglycemia. They treated him and finally Jon felt comfortable.

He regains a part of his consciousness and overhears two people talking.

"Are you sure about this, your Highness? He was banished today from his house," said one to the other.

"I'm sure..." the other replied as Jon loses his consciousness again.

The other two, meanwhile, continued their discussion.

"He graduated today, your Highness. He finished second in his graduating class," the first person said.

"Second place, for some people it is an honor but for his family, it is a disgrace," the other said.

"Yes," the first concluded. "It is such a shame how brilliant minds with passionate hearts fall to the mundaneness of society."

"Does he have nowhere else left to go? " the other asked as he looked at Jon.

"He no longer has a place to go to, your Highness," the first replied.

"Then I shall..." the infirmary door was then slammed open and inside came the royal guards and the doctors of the house of Bisset.

"Are you alright, your Highness?" the captain of the royal guards asked.

"I'm not the one who is injured, he is," he pointed to Jon and the doctors were shocked.

"Your highness, that man must be hanged immediately! He must be punished for his crimes," the head doctor said.

"No!" he replied sternly. "I do not wish to harm someone who has not wronged me."

The room stayed silent, until the other person again spoke.

"He shall serve me," the other continued. "If he has nowhere else to go, then he shall serve me as my butler." And with his declaration the guards and the doctors exited the room in the most proper fashion.
