10 Plasma Spider

"What do you mean that sounds like a monster name?" Asked Cidre. Pulling his hair away from his glasses he glared at Sydra. "Hey, aren't you that guy from the meat shop? The one who bumped into me earlier today." He said finally getting a good look at his assailant.

"Oh... yeah I guess your right. Sorry about that, I thought you were a monster. Why didn't you call out to me when I first came down?... Also, what are you doing here, I thought I was the first person to enter the burial chambers." Sydra said lifting his lantern and looking around the place they were in.

"Is that what this place is? I got separated from my group earlier and since I didn't receive a map, I ended up lost. When I saw this huge building my greed for adventure and treasure got the better of me and I came in. The reason that I didn't call out to you at first is because I wasn't sure if you were friend or foe. It wasn't until I saw your lantern that I knew you were a friend." Cidre said, pulling the dagger out of the wall next to him and handing it back to Sydra.

"You don't have a lantern?" Sydra said looking back towards Cidre, studying him. "Wait, you don't even have a backpack. You didn't seriously start exploring ruins without any supplies, did you?"

"No, no. My backpack with my stuff in it is somewhere on this pillow mountain, I dropped it on my way down here. If you don't mind me helping me find it, that would be great." Cidre said, pointing at the giant mound of pillows.

"If I help you, then you are going to have to help explore these ruins. Also, I get the first pick of whatever we find." Sydra said climbing back onto the pillow mountain.

"Sure, I'm not supposed to be here anyway," Cidre said, flinging pillows about. "Oh, I think I see it, hold on a second!" He said as he began climbing the pillows to his backpack. Grabbing it, Cidre returned to the ground to meet back up with Sydra.

"Alright, let's go this way." Sydra decisively said, leading the two of them down a hallway that was south of the pillows. Cidre was left behind still trying to get his own lantern out of his backpack. Managing to get it out, Cidre activated his lantern and hooked it onto his backpack.

"Wait up!" Cidre yelled, finally pulling his lantern out and catching up with Sydra. "By the way, I never caught your name."

"Hmm? Oh, it's Sydra Glass, also be careful where you step." Sydra answered, looking at the ground carefully as he walked.

"Of course, I know that..." Cidre said, taking a step forward.

'Click'

"Oops..." Cidre looked down to see the floor beneath his foot sink into the ground. Before he could even move, Sydra had slammed his hand into the ground.

"Ancient Root Defense," Sydra called out, as the shield of roots shot out of the ground on the left side of them. As the roots finished forming the defense the wall on the left side opened up and fired out long thin blades of plasma. When the plasma hit the roots it seemed to absorb into them and reinforce the roots. Standing back up, Sydra turned and looked at Cidre.

"Are you trying to kill us? One second you claim you'll be careful, the next second your stepping on a trap. What's even worse is that it literally has a T, that probably stands for trap, engraved on the top of." Sydra said pointing down at the pressure plate.

"Wait you understand what these symbols mean?" Asked Cidre, looking down at the scribbles on the ground. "I thought that was someone's attempt to draw a disfigured penguin calling for justice." He said looking at all the other plates around them as well. Sydra stopped for a second and looked back down at the plates.

"That is odd, I didn't even realize that it was in another language. The meaning behind each of these plates seemed so obvious to me that I wasn't even paying attention. Hmm, I can figure how I understand it later, for now only step where I step so we can avoid future troubles." Sydra said as he started walking forward again. Cidre nodded and followed closely behind him.

"By the way, how did your shield back there absorb the plasma blades? I heard that the guy who came back to the town with the plasma sword was able to cut through anything with it. He even easily sliced through Diamondic Steel with it, and that stuff is known for being incredibly tough." Cidre asked, curious about the nature of Sydra's powers.

"That was called Ancient Root Defense, and it can take any attack under a certain amount of jins and use it to reinforce itself. If the amount of jins behind the attack is to much, the roots will become brittle and fall apart, plus I can only use it a few times a day, so it's not an invincible power. I'll need to increase my understanding of the power to upgrade it's level. By the way, do you have any useful powers? "Sydra asked.

"Well, I was born with the Void Eyes, so I became an archer. At the moment my eyes are only at the eagle sight stage, with the next stage being night vision. I'm still a long way away from being able to see through the Void though." Cidre answered, pulling a bow that was folded up out of his backpack. "This was a gift my great-grandfather bought me, it was created by the dwarves and can fire with three-thousand jins. Your actually wearing a backpack that my great-grandfather made himself." Cidre said pointing at Sydra's backpack.

"Oh really? I know who your talking about," Sydra said. Reaching the end of the hallway, Sydra and Cidre entered a new room that was filled with glowing spiderwebs. "I hate spiders," Sydra said, trying to get the sticky webs off of his arms.

"I know what you mean, but why is this spiderweb glowing, I've never heard of glowing spiderwebs before." said Cidre, trying to use the path Sydra was creating to not get any webs on himself.

Taking out his staff, Sydra let out a small bit of its aura to freeze all the spiderwebs. Once they were all frozen it was easy to break them down.

"Haha, that's pretty useful. Where did that staff come from, it looked like it just appeared out of thin air." Cidre said, taking notice of the beautifully crafted staff.

"That is because it did, I have an inter-spatial storage that I keep most of the items that can't fit into my backpack in. I think I see a way out of this room over there at the far right-side corner. Let's go." Sydra said as he continued breaking the frozen webs out of his way. Ten minutes later Sydra and Cidre managed to break their way to the door, and exited the room of webs, only to enter a cavern of webs.

"There are too many webs in here, I can't freeze them all." Sydra said looking at Cidre. However, Cidre was frozen stiff, looking up at the top of the cavern. Following his gaze, Sydra's eyes landed on a large glowing sphere, that was a little far for him to be able to make out what it was.

"What is it? All I see is a ball of glowing spiderwebs?" Sydra asked Cidre, trying to figure out what could scare him to such a point.

"It's a spider... A really, really big spider." Cidre whispered pulling out an arrow from his backpack and notching it in his bow.

"What are you doing?!" Sydra asked, panic covering his face. "Do you think your arrow will make it past all the webs and actually kill that thing?"

"It already noticed us... At this moment, I do have a shot, but it won't kill it, it will only damage it enough to give us a chance against it, if we work together." Cidre answered, pulling back the bow string and aiming the arrow at the spider.

"Damn it, hold on. Bone manipulation, Armored Bone Suit." Sydra whispered, as his chest, arms, and legs were covered in an encasement of pale bones. His face wasn't covered so he could see easily.

Flipping up his cloak's hood and pulling out a bone dagger, with his dragon staff in the other hand, Sydra looked like the shadow of the Grim Reaper. After throwing his backpack and lantern down, Sydra was ready to go. "You stay here and fire arrows at a distance. Try to knock it closer to the floor. I'll attack it up close, from the shadows. Shadow merge!" Sydra said as he merged into the shadows.

"Got it, here we go!" Cidre yelled as he released his notched arrow towards the spider. As the arrow whistled through the air, Cidre pulled another one out and fired it as well. Feeling the vibrations in its web as the arrow brushed past them, the spider began to move. Uncurling its legs the spider darted between the strands of web, headed straight towards Cidre. Although it was successful in dodging the first arrow, that one was only a distraction covering the path of the second arrow.

"Impressive," Sydra said, as he began to move as well. Placing his bone dagger between his teeth Sydra launched himself into the air, towards the glowing strands of web. After freezing the first seven bottom-most layers of the web with his staff, Sydra tossed it back into his Arbor Sanctum, to keep it out of his way. Shooting through the air, Sydra grabbed onto the first frozen strand and swung himself up to the next one. With his strength being at two-thousand jins, he was able to shoot him self quite far into the web. Manipulating the bones in his gauntlets, Sydra caused the fingers to become more claw like to keep from slipping off the icy webs.

"Screech!!" hissed the spider, as the second arrow pierced through two of its right legs. This caused it to miss the next strand of web it had been reaching for, and fall down a few layers of its web. If it wasn't for the multiple layers of web slowing down the spiders fall, it would have hit the ground and died. Even though it didn't hit the ground it still stopped close enough to the iced strands for Sydra to get a good look at it. The spider was five meters tall and seven meters leg. It was glowing white with a blue and golden spot on its back. The spot was in the shape of a machine cog, and as the spider spun out webs to fix the layer of webs it was on, the cog spun. Swinging himself up once more, Sydra was positioned in the air above the spiders head. Taking the dagger out of his mouth, he fell towards the spiders head. Noticing the shadow falling towards it, the spider shot out its web to encase it. As the web shot out, Sydra spun in midair towards the left of the spider, barely dodging the spider web. Swinging his bone dagger as hard as he could, Sydra pierced through the spiders side and slashed a deep gouge into it.

"Screech!!!" hissed the spider even louder than last time, swinging two of its legs to hit Sydra, who was still midair. Crossing his arms in front of him to take the brunt of the attack, Sydra was shot in the direction of the cave wall. Slamming into it, Sydra fell down to the ground, and landed slumped down. Seeing its prey on the verge of death, the spider attempted to pounce on Sydra to finish him off. Watching the spider fly through the air with its glowing mandibles wide open, Sydra braced himself for death. The attack just now had broken both his arms, and he needed time to regenerate them enough to take out a health potion.

'Twang...twang, twang.' the sound of a bow could be heard echoing through the cave. Surprised, Sydra saw the spider's head jerk three times as three arrows appeared out of no where and impaled its head. Killed instantly after the first arrow had found its mark, the spider's body continued its trajectory and landed a few feet away from Sydra. Its body slid a few more feet, before it stopped with its mouth a few feet away from Sydra's coconuts.

"Oh my, almost lost jewels there." Sydra said, as he watched the last bit of life leave the spiders eyes.
