1 Chapter One: Game Over

"Game Over" flashed on the screen as Beverly Rodgers screamed in frustration and throwing their headset down to the floor almost breaking it in half upset that they just got eaten by a zombie, looking at the time in the corner of her computer coming to the realization it was 3:00 am on a Friday she had been trying to beat this damn game for 6 hours straight. Looking behind her to find her younger brother asleep on the large bed she immediately stood up tucking him in placing a soft kiss on his forehead and whispering a goodnight and heading toward the door slowly closing it making sure no to wake her sleeping brother and heading down the stairs to find her unconscious mother lying on the couch beer bottle still in her hand making it quite obvious to the 17-year old that her father hadn't come home the night before again ever since a fight they had a few months ago he hasn't been home as much and is always at work, bar, home a 7:00 am and then repeat. There was never a change in that man's schedule somedays Beverly wished he wouldn't come home so her parents would have to fight about where he had been, and that maybe just maybe if he never came home maybe her, Freddie, and their mother could finally live a happy life, of course, this dream would never come true because no matter what she knew her mother would always come running back to their father. As Beverly tiptoed toward her mother picking up the throw blanket from off the tile floor lying on top of her mother once again softly and slowly walking toward the half-empty fridge mentally reminding themselves to buy more food the next time they leave the house while grabbing a practically empty carton of milk unscrewing the cap and chugging it tossing it into the trash can and heading back up the stairs with the only thought being to at least get some hours of sleep before having to head to school later.
