Still Second Place

Ever since my foster family, Vance Househd to be exact, adopted me, I made sure not to let them down. I have done countless things to make them proud and to bring honor and recognition to our family name. I graduated at my last school as the top student and got myself a full scholarship into the prestigious college, the Academy of Dawn.

My parents were very proud, both my deceased and my foster parents. My step-brother, Harley, on the other hand, flanked the scholarship test so we had to pay a large deal to get him into AOD too. But before I even continue, I'll introduce myself first. My name is Lesley Vance, a daughter to the infamous Vance Household. I am 18 years old, and I like to study and to shoot the living daylights out of someone. But kidding aside, I love guns and am knowledgeable about them. My late father gave me my first and favorite gun, my sniper—

"LESLEY~~~" I got out of my trance when my friend, Kagura, yanked my arm.

"What is it?" I asked her. She grinned and pointed outside the window. I shifted my eyes to where she was pointing. Walking to the window, I can hear squeals and cheers. My face immediately turned sour seeing who is the cause of the ruckus.

"Isn't he dreamy?" Kagura commented while daydreaming beside me. I rolled my eyes and scoffed.

"Who? Gusion? Claude's much better" I defended. Claude's my long time crush and he used to be my childhood bestfriend. Such a shame.

"You're just blind girl, can't you see? Gusion's got it all" Kagu laughed. I mimicked her and stuck my tongue out.

I hate him. Not a grudge or anything personal, he literally tops every exam and I always end up in second place. Yesterday AOD held a quiz bee for every class and I'm expecting to win because I haven't heard anyone gossiping that Gusion also entered the competition.

"Kagu, let's go and check the board. I think the results are out"

"Oh sure"

Kagura used her umbrella and we literally flew out the window from the 5th floor down to the ground floor. She's an amazing magic user and I hope she graduates as the Witch of the Year. We quickly ran to the board where all of the announcements are posted.

"Kagura you go and look, don't talk to me if I'm not number 1" I kidded and pushed her forward.

I had my fingers ,also my toes , crossed and waited for Kagura to yank me hard because I topped. But a few minutes later, still no Kagura. I looked at her and she smiled forcibly while pointing at the results. I nervously walked to where it was posted. But before I even saw the board, I got towered by a shadow. I turned around to see who's behind me.

It was Gusion and he was smirking when he held my chin and said "Nice try. But, still second place"
