39 Dungeon of Greed [Part 3]

A swift strike followed by a flash of light cut the darkness within the Dungeon of Greed. Durandal shone as it created after images in the air. Alex successfully parried a goblin's club as he stepped aside to avoid the attack coming from behind.

He was currently fighting two goblins at once and he was doing his best to finish the battle as fast as possible. Abbie was ten meters away from him and engaged in combat with three goblins.

Although the goblins had a number advantage they were not able to do anything about Abbie's unpredictable attacks. When they thought that she was going to use her bat, she delivered a kick. When they were waiting for the kick, she whacked their heads using the baseball bat.

The three goblins that were fighting her had swollen faces as they tried to surround her.

"Gob gob gobi!" (This ugly girl is annoying!)

"Gob gobi gobu!" (Be careful of her kick!)

"Gobhuak!"

Abbie threw her baseball bat at one of the unsuspecting goblins and hit it squarely on its face. She then charged forward as she summoned another bat from her inventory and whacked another. Because of her surprise attack, the goblin's formation was broken.

Abbie felt that these goblins were weaker compared to the thugs that she had beaten back on Earth. The only difference was that this group of goblins knew how to use teamwork. When she delivers an attack to one goblin, the other two would support their companion immediately. That was the only reason they managed to last long against Abbie.

Now that one of them was disabled due to her flying baseball bat attack, the other two were easy pickings. Abbie whacked the two goblins until they lost consciousness. The battle reminded Abbie of the days when she was still actively studying under her master in the Muay Thai Gym.

The spars were intense and there were plenty of times when she received injuries because of it. However, it was thanks to those spars that she managed to overcome this skirmish with the goblins.

After making sure that the three goblins were down for the count, she glanced at Alex who just finished beating his two opponents. Abbie frowned because he could see the damage on Alex's quilted armor.

One of Alex's opponents was a Hobgoblin. It was bigger and stronger than a regular goblin, so Alex had a hard time defeating it. Although the little boy now had the strength of a fully grown adult, his fighting style was not developed yet.

At most, he only learned some basic attacks due to his skill [Weapon Focus: Short Sword]. His other skill [Mobility] allowed him to have faster reflexes when dodging attacks. Although he had these skills, he still got hit multiple times during the battle. The only reason he remained standing was due to Abbie.

Alex didn't want his Master to get hurt so he fought tooth and nail against the Hobgoblin after disabling his goblin helper.

Abbie immediately took out a healing potion from her inventory and made Alex drink it. Currently, they only have five more healing potions left. She couldn't help but worry because they only explored half of the second floor of the dungeon.

Alex saw the worry on his Master's face and felt his heart ache.

"Don't worry, Master." Alex said with a smile. "These are just scratches."

"You don't have to act tough with me," Alice reprimanded. "I know you are bruised all over."

Alex was about to refute Abbie when something unexpected caught his eye.

"Master, look over there!" Alex exclaimed. "A treasure box!"

Abbie looked at the direction where Alex was looking at and saw a silver treasure chest. Her eyes sparkled in excitement.

"Wow! We're rich!" Abbie chuckled as she held Alex's hand and dragged him towards the treasure box. "I wonder what's inside. Gold? Money? Jewels?"

"Wait, Master," Alex tugged on Abbie's dress as they neared the treasure box. "Some treasure boxes have traps in them. Allow me to check it first."

"Can you detect traps?" Abbie frowned. She was sure that Alex didn't have any skills for trap detection. "How will you know if there is a trap or not."

Alex didn't reply, but he had a serious expression on his face. He would rather trigger the trap than have his Master get hurt. The young boy approached the treasure chest slowly. He then used Durandal to poke the treasure box to see if it will trigger anything. Seeing no reactions, he moved a step closer. The chest was only half a meter away from him.

He poked the chest with his sword for the second time just to be sure. Since nothing was happening he clenched his teeth and opened the chest before swiftly backing away. Abbie watched Alex's cautious attempts while holding back her laughter.

Although Alex looked funny, she knew that he was doing this for her sake. In order to preserve her Little Hero's dignity, Abbie kept her lips closed as her shoulders moved up and down.

"Master, the coast is clear," Alex reported. "Let's see what's inside the treasure chest."

"Mmm!"

The two walked side by side and approached the treasure chest together. When they looked inside the treasure chest, they found a small, round, metallic, shield. Abbie took out her I-Foam and used the camera to lock on the shield. During their break, the bitchy AI explained that if they ever find items in treasure chests, they can use the GGS Appraisal function to check its name and descriptions.

Metal Buckler

Type: Medium-Quality Shield

Rarity: Common

A common shield that was made by a blacksmith of the Twilight Empire. Can be used by any profession.

"A shield, not bad," Abbie said as she lifted the small round shield from the treasure chest. Judging by its weight, she concluded that it was at least three kilos (6.61 lbs). Although she was a bit disappointed, this was still the first treasure that they had found inside the dungeon.

Even though it was only a common shield, it was still a useful item that will help Alex protect his body from attacks that he couldn't avoid.

Abbie handed the shield to Alex. "Equip this and see if it fits."

"Thank you, Master," Alex equipped the shield on his left arm and tested its weight. Since it was only three kilos, he had no problems moving with it. Abbie wondered if the weight of the shield was reduced to match Alex's current stats. It was too light for a shield, but it's toughness was of good quality.

'I guess there are still many things that I do not understand about this world," Abbie thought. 'I hope we find better equipment for Alex.'

Abbie felt sorry for her Little Hero. Aside from his weapon, Durandal, everything was of low-quality. Even the quilted armor that protected him was easily torn apart after a few hits by the Hobgoblin. The shield they found was only of medium-quality.

She held back a sigh as they resumed their exploration on the second floor of the dungeon. She was hoping that she would find a few more treasure chests that might give Alex an extra boost before they descended to the third floor of the dungeon.
