2 Chapter 1:

"Jin, Jin, Jin!"

A little girl was chanting this name out loud while pulling the sleeve of a middle aged man who was sleeping soundly in an armchair. Seeing that the man was showing no signs of waking up, the little girl let go of the sleeve she was holding and ran around in the armchair standing in front of him. She climbed on top of his body, sitting on his lap, the child raised both of her two small hands condensing a small white light in between her hands. The small white light slowly expanded and began to change into a gentle light blue colour.

Then, the little girl released the small beam of light aiming it directly at the man's face.

"Uagh!" Covering his face painfully, Jin groans slightly rubbing his face. He looked down to see the culprit smiling widely.

"Sera Cartesius! How many times do I have to tell you that it is very bad to use a light beam to attack a person's face to attract attention!"

The little girl just giggled not at all afraid of her uncle's stern face. Her beautiful red jade-like eyes sparkling as she swayed her tiny body from side-to-side acting cutely. "Jin's awake!" She pouted her lips and grabbed her uncle's hand, "come play with Sera[¹]! Sera is booooored!"

"Call me uncle!" Jin grumbled. This little girl was getting naughtier. Who taught her not to use honorifics towards her elders?

"Awwwie! Uncle! Uncle! Uncle!" The little girl flapped her small hands around. Jin felt a little better after hearing her address him as 'uncle'.

"Silly Uncle. Stupid Uncle!! Hahahaha!"

Jin: "..."

This brat.

Where on earth did she learn these words from? It really made one worry.

"You little brat. If I don't teach you a lesson today, you'll become more unruly!"

Sera giggled running away from her uncle. "Hahaha! Catch me if you can!"

And thus the two played the chased and the chaser the entire morning.

In the early afternoon, Jin began Sera's lessons. "Sera, I will ask you the questions now. If you can't get even half of them right, don't even think about playing!"

"Okay~"

"Question one, what are the requirements of a Knight?"

Sera answered seriously with no playfulness in her previous tone. "A knight has to be accomplished in riding a horse while carrying a shield and lance, so he needs to practise guiding his steed using only the knees and feet. He must be capable of using a long and heavy sword for a sustained period of fighting and fit enough to move around with speed while wearing heavy metal armour."

Hearing Sera answer clearly with no mistakes made, Jin lifted his lips in satisfaction. "Then what skills must they have?"

"They must have good swordmanship.  They must be able to fight on the piggyback for mounted combat. They must be able to master the art of climbing, swimming, throwing stones, javelin, archery and wrestling."

"Good."

Jin continued to question Sera for thirty minutes. He was quite impressed that she could answer all the questions correctly. Afterall she was only a 4-year old child. He decided to give one last question. Hoped that her could answer this question correctly too. Because this would decide whether she be allowed go and see the outside world. "What is the knight's code?"

His heartbeat increased rapidly. In those few seconds it felt like an eternity, if Sera couldn't answer this question correctly, she would never be allowed to set foot out of this domain.

As Jin was silently worrying, Sera's milky voice spoke clearly and loudly. "A knight's code of conduct is mercy, humility, honor, sacrifice, faithfulness, courage, utmost graciousness and courtesy toward women!"

Hearing her answer, Jin breathed a sigh of relief. Good she answered in correctly. It was the most important question. It would ultimately decide this little girl's future.

"Good, good! You answered  it correctly!"

Sera smiled happily putting her hands on her on her hips, "of course~ Sera is soo smart. Sera won't get such a smile questionnaire wrong ~" the little girl had a proud look on her face. Jin couldn't have but smile, this child was unbelievably adorable when she tries to act proud. And those chubby cheeks... ah~ he wanted to pinch them~

The child was really cute. "Jin~ Jin~ Sera wants to eat her faaavourite honey roast pork~"

Jin couldn't help but smile, he decided to ignore the fact that his naughty niece did not address him as "uncle".

"Alright, alright. You be good and stay at home. I'll go and buy the pork and honey at the supermarket."

"Okay ~"

At the supermarket.

While Jin was selecting pork meat from a butcher shop, he heard a familiar voice. "Well if it isn't Jin Belizaire~"

"... Linus." Jin gave the man smiling in front of him a cold glance before turning around to continue selecting the meat. "Miss I'll take this amount please." Linus furrowed his brows slightly. Did this waste actually ignore him?

When Jin was about to leave, Linus blocked him,"hey,hey, hey! Would it kill you to at least say hi?!"

Jin glanced at him and sighed, "we're not friends, so why should I say hi?"

[¹] = Sera is using her first name to refer to herself. This gives the impression of acting cutesy.
