6 - The room's secret

Waking up after and unknown amount of time, an unfamiliar ceiling stared down at Draig. Feeling groggy and slightly confused where he was, Draig remembered that he had reincarnated and calmed down. Feeling resentment to the designers of the 'Sparta' course room, who made it so that you don't know how much time passes, Draig decided to continue increasing his proficiency in Holy magic to leave even a minute earlier.

His only source of satisfaction was the result he saw when he used

Feeling happy about his progress, Draig started wondering why the room was always so bright even without windows. Noticing a lightbulb like fixture above him, Draig began thinking about how it works since he knows that electricity hasn't been harnessed yet. Thinking that it runs either by someone regularly supplying mana or by using mana stones. Deciding to ask about it later when he left, Draig no longer groggy, began chanting again. For some reason, Draig's concentration spiked ever since he was aware of the mana circulating in the room and was strangely able to sense the mana properly. Feeling mystified, Draig checked his proficiencies and noticed many skills' proficiency rose quite alot. Deciding to experiment on a way to increase his mana recovery speed, Draig decided to meditate since according to most cliches that would help. After, what he assumed was an hour Draig checked his proficiencies to be surpried that he had gained two skills.

One called <concentration> and another called <meditation>, plus proficiency for another skill called <mana recovery> rose quite quickly. Deciding that he would meditate for an hour everyday till he gets <mana recovery>, Draig returned to chanting Heal. After 10 attempts, Draig felt like crap again so he decided to take a break and meditate again. Crossing his legs, Draig emptied his mind and fell into a trance focusing on breathing. He continued meditating, until he heard a loud knock on the door which broke his trance. Getting up and powering through the pins and needles he felt in his legs, Draig answered the door to take his meal.

Opening the door, Draig saw Kururu and greeted her.

Draig - "Good morning Kururu-san, thank you for bringing me a meal today as well."

Kururu - "Good morning to you too Draig. Don't worry about it it's my job and I enjoy talking to you."

Draig - "Is that so? By the way I wanted to ask you what kind of guild is the healer guild?"

Kururu answered by explaining a ranking system that was based on letters ranging from G to S. The highest rank at the moment was AAA since an S-rank healer was an almost legendary figure. Kururu also explained that the guild was formed to treat people and that, while it isn't recommended, you can also join the adventurer guild.

Thinking of joining the adventurer guild after he finishes his course, Draig thanked Kururu before taking the tray of food into the room with him. After he closed the door, Draig began tearing into the food since he didn't notice his hunger while meditating and hunger suddenly hit him when he smelled the food. Feeling content after a filling meal, Draig placed, the now food-less tray, outside his room/cell and checked how much mana he had left. Being pleasantly surprised that his mana had completely recovered, Draig returned to chanting. After completely draining his mana again, Draig decided to check his proficiency to motivate himself.

Draig, unaware that he was learning at a monstrous pace, though that the time when he would be able to leave is close decided to meditate again to try and get the <mana recovery> skill. As Draig continued to meditate time passed without him being aware of it, he didn't even notice his mana completely recovering. Draig finally broke out of his meditation when he heard another knock on his door. Slightly confused, Draig answered the door only to be greeted by a receptionist he didn't know holding another tray full of food. Draig finally feeling his hunger, noticed that it had been half a day since he started to meditate and felt like he wasted his precious time.

Receptionist - "What's wrong? Why do you look so confused? Gasp! It couldn't be that you fell in love with me at first sight!"

Draig felt dazed for a second. He remembered many shows and anime, where a character was in this exact same scenario and finally found out why they couldn't react. The receptionist was a short girl who looked 18 years old, with long hair that reached the back of her knees. The girl had a beautiful face and an extremely goofy smile on her face as she looked down bashfully. (Author: Imagine the short hyperactive girl from "Tanaka-kun is always listless" and you'll have an idea on her personality and looks) Thinking that she was going to be a fun person to be around, Draig tried to think of a way to answer.

Draig - "While I'm sure that is not why I'm confused, hi my name is Draig. What's your name?"

Receptionist - "Eeeeeeh? I was looking for a more embarrassed or surprised reaction! You're no fun, Draig-chan!"

Draig - " Wait, wait, wait! My reaction is the normal reaction! You're the abnormal one for trying to tease someone you just met! And when did I become 'Draig-chan'!"

Receptionist - "You look younger than me, so I'm going to call you Draig-chan!! Also that's not how you react when a beautiful girl asks if you like them!!"

Draig - "Who calls themselves a beautiful girl!"

Continuing their comedy routine for a while under the warm gazes of the other receptionists, when Draig's stomach released a loud rumble. Draig and the short receptionist looked at each other, before they suddenly burst into laughter.

Receptionist - "You're a fun person Draig-chan! I'm Shori, nice to meet you!!"

Draig - "Likewise, Shori-san."

Shori - "Fufufu. I think you're the only person who calls me 'san'."

Draig - "Hahaha. Oh! I wanted to ask how long does it usually take to learn holy magic in the 'Sparta' course?"

Shori - "Fufufu Impatient aren't you? It usually takes a week, but *whispers* there's a rumour that people who notice a secret in the room learn only the initial level of holy magic in 4 meals time inside the room."

Draig - "Really!?[Ah! Thats why I'm learning so fast! Noticing the light source!]"

Shori - "Yep!! [He bought it! Fufufu I'll tell him sometime.] But if you tell anyone about it or hint this secret they will be unable to learn inside the room!!"

Draig - "Ok!"

Draig thanked his new friend before returning to his room with the tray of food and a huge missunderstanding.
