7 - Healer apprentice

(Author: While re-reading the first couple arcs I found that Broccolilion (original author to the novel this is based on) kept jumping between names so Kururu will be changed to Krull now. Sorry for any confusion.)

After eating his meal and putting his table ware outside, Draig began his last leg to learn holy magic. After 8 failed attempts, his 9th chant caused a pale light to emit from his hand. Feeling happy to finally be able to use magic, Draig decided to wait a little to recover some magic. He wanted to see his magic at work, and when Draig's mana had recovered to half he left the room to ask for a small knife.

Returning with the knife, Draig made a small cut on his finger. After the cut started oozing some blood, Draig grimacing slightly from the pain that he couldn't completely ignore, cast heal. Keeping an image of healing the cut, Draig's hand emitted a pale light before the cut closed at a visible pace.

Feeling giddy that he could use magic, Draig decided to experiment with the mental image of heal. Making another cut on his finger, grimacing slightly again, Draig held an image of his cells dividing towards each other and connecting when they meet before casting. Again a similar pale light emitted from his hand, but both the time taken and the mana used decreased substantially. Draig found that casting with the image of cellular healing used less time and less mana. The only explanation Draig had, was that using heal on his cut attempted it on the whole finger, but when he held the image of healing at a cellular level then the magic was cast only on the damaged cells. So the amount of mana and time needed would decrease due to a smaller area. Satisfied with his theory, Draig decided to try and get the mana recovery skill now and sat down to meditate again.

After an hour, Draig felt like his mana was recovering faster than before. Checking his status, he found that he had gained the <mana recovery> skill. Thinking back on his conversation with Shori, Draig thought that he shouldn't leave the room early because that may be a hint to any new healers and make them unable to learn holy magic. Thinking of a schedule for the next 5 days (he had 3 meals so he has 5&2/5 of a day left), Draig decided to increase his mana control and maybe gain a skill for that while he trained that, and continued training in his holy magic to make it faster and use less mana.

So 5 days passed and Draig decided to leave his home(prison cell), and head off to the adventurer guild after paying any fees.

Leaving for the first time in days, Draig returned the small knife before talking to an unfamiliar receptionist.

Draig - "Hello. I'm Draig, and I came here a week ago to register and learn holy magic. I've finally been able to use it so I'm wondering what do I do now, do I look for Lumina-san or pay a fee or something?"

Receptionist - "Hello Draig and congratulations. There would usually be a fee, but Lumina-sama instructed that your first 10 days would be free. Ah! My name is monika by the way. Nice to meet you."

Monika said after asking for Draig's guild card.

Draig - "Nice to meet you too, Monika-san." Draig replied with a smile and a slight bow when he received his card back.

Deciding to head towards the adventurer guild now, Draig said goodbye to Monika before leaving. Monika was left blushing and slightly saddened that Draig left.

Heading towards the adventurer guild, which was a couple roads away, Draig began preparing himself to be shunned at the guild. During his conversations with the receptionists at the healer guild, Draig became painfully aware that healers were usually corrupt, asking for abnormal sums of money for even the smallest cut. So profession like adventurer, where you get injured regularly would definitely have a grudge against healers. Reaching the door and steeling himself, Draig walked into the guild. The moment he walked in he was hit with a suffocating atmosphere. Deciding to shrug it off as best as he could, Draig headed to a place that looked like a counter. There Draig saw the first beastman in his life. Behind the counter was a woman with blue hair and fluffy rabbit ears standing upright on the top of her head.

Draig - "Hello, I would like to register as an adventurer."

Bunnygirl - "Welcome, please fill in your name, race and age here." She said before handing him a piece of parchment.

Filling the form quickly, Draig was required to drip some blood or channel mana into a card that the bunnygirl held out to him. Deciding to use the mana method, the bunnygirl took back the card the gave him a smile before saying that there was no problem with him registering since he has the <taijutsu> skill. Feeling happy and listening to an explanation from the bunnygirl, Draig learned that there was a ranking system similar to the healer guild system and that adventurers could also submit requests.

Draig decided to request for an instructor that would be able to thoroughly train him and learned that that would cost 1 silver coin s day. Thinking he may get a discount if he revealed himself as a healer, the girl became quiet before asking him to stay there for a moment then left.

Deciding to wait patiently for the girl to return, Draig nearly fell over when he overheard a conversation from behind him.

Adventurer 1 - "Have you heard the news about the young bard that is becoming famous around the city? What was his name? Michael Jack I think."

Adventurer 2 - "Oh yeah! I saw him perform a couple days back when I was on a request. He has a great voice and uses weird instruments that I've never seen before."

Adventurer 1 - "I'm trying to copy his weird way of moving backwards that he does during his performances! What was it called? The walkmoon!"

Adventurer 3 - "Are you guys talking about Michael Jack! Any of you heard his song smooth criminal? It's a work of art? I just wonder who Annie is since most bards sing stories that at least partially happened right?"

Draig feeling like he was going to burst out laughing any second, held it in with inhuman effort. Just as he got his laughter under control the girl returned, with her was a rugged looking middle aged man with scars all over his body.
