2 The Fight

Kaelyn's P.O.V

I ducked just in time to avoid an egg smashing in my face. As I got back up there was a pie making It's way towards me....!

Impulsively my arms came up to shield my body. It hit the side of my right wrist, Some of it's material fell to the floor.

I stood in the same position for a while and blinked a few times, trying to realise what had just happened.

Just then, I heard some ear splitting squeals from the hall. I hurried inside and stopped once I got a full view of the scene.....

Brown's house was pretty big and spacious.

To the left there was a connected open kitchen.

From above the kitchen aisle, Trystan Brown's lasagna covered head was peeking through.

Presumably all the afore mentioned squealings belonged to Stacey. She was currently being chased by an evil looking Everleigh who had a can of whipped cream in possession.

On the middle of everything stood Caleb atop a stool holding a bowl brimming with popcorns, He took a handful of them and sprinkled them in random directions, Shouting "Stay away! Stay away!"

On the corner most part of the room, hidden behind a flower vase sat Lily with her stash of food items, but instead of throwing them around like everyone else, She was stuffing them in her mouth in a blistering and frenetic motion.

None of them seemed to notice me.

I cleared my throat in a loud and very unladylike manner to draw some attention towards me. Everyone paused in whatever posture they were in and just turned their heads to glance at me.

"Sorry to interrupt your little fight, I'm here to get my brother Cameron so can anyone please tell me where Mason's room is? Then you can get back to your brawl." I. said clearly in a clipped voice.

Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Lily looking at the cookie on her hand then back at me. After a bit of contemplation, she popped it in her mouth and paused again to look at me.

Stacey was the one to break the silence.

"You're Kaelyn right...!? I've seen you in school." She said.

Before I could answer, Everleigh beat me to it.

"Right! I thought I saw her somewhere, Anyways it's not late, we just started and we all look ugly! Guys!! What're you waiting for!? Let's make her ugly too!" She screamed enthusiastically.

In a moment, I was surrounded by vicious looking teenagers who had their 'weapons' drawn.

They shared a look of amusement and were ready to dump all the crap on my head.

I held my hand out.

"Stop!" I said in a tone that halted everyone.

My face was blank. I don't have the time to be involved in this stupidity!

"I am not here to play some game and I would prefer to be how I am right now. Sorry, but just tell me where the room is." I told them.

"Ahem" Someone cleared their throat from behind the flower vase.

I turned my head to look at Lily who pointed her index finger upwards. I followed the direction to see where she was pointing.

"Thanks." I said and made my way over to the stairs. The hall was so quite that I could hear my footsteps.

Just as I reached the 7th step, The squealings started again.

I shook my head.

These weirdos..

After cleaning up my wrist and the mess created by the two boys, I grabbed Cammie's hand and led him down the stairs to search for Mrs. Brown.

The hall was almost cleaned up. Stacey and Caleb were scrubbing the floor, while Everleigh was dumping things in the bin and Lily was arranging the pillows and blankets in front of the T.V

A sigh left my lips.

Cammie looked at me questioningly. I shook my head and smiled.

"I'll be right back, Wait here."

I swiftly turned around and headed to Mrs. Brown's room.

I entered the dimly lit room. But it was empty.

Maybe she is in the bathroom.

"Mrs. Brown, Are you there?" I say in a soft voice.

"Mrs. Brown ?"I say again, a bit firmly.

"Mom isn't home."

I gasp and turn around in lightening speed. My arms come up defensively.

Trystan pushes himself from the wall he was leaning on.

I let my arms fall to the side as I gaze at him coolly.

He chuckles and makes his way over to stand in front of me.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you."He says.

"It's okay." I nod, "Mrs. Brown isn't home...?"

Wasn't she supposed to drop Cammie at our house?

I frown slightly.

Sensing my thought, Trystan answers.

"An emergency came up.She had to leave urgently. Before leaving she told me to drop Cameron." I nod again.

"My brother broke a vase while he was playing. I'm sorry for what he did and I'll compensate." I tell him and hand him a few notes.

"There's no need! It's fine, take it back." He extends his hand forward.

I give him a small smile and push his hand back.

"No! I insist." Before he could say something, I brush past him.

I find Cammie where I left him. I grab his hand.

"Let's go." I say. He nods

We walked towards the door quietly.

"Kaelyn! You're leaving already ?You should stay, We're about to watch a movie." Stacey offers politely.

I smile at her.

"Thanks, but sorry !I have to leave now, You enjoy!" I say.

She returns the smile.

The only difference between our smiles is that her's reached her eyes.

I left the house with Cameron.

I flipped the last pancake and turned the burner off.

I removed the apron and wiped my cheek with a tissue. Next, I went towards the dinning table and set the plates.

"It smells good here ! Dii, you're the best cook!" Cammie closed his eyes, took a deep breath and made noises of appreciation.

I laughed at his antics and went over to ruffle his hair.

"Come on, eat up! It's late and past your bedtime." I told him.

He freed himself and ran a hand towards his hair to tame it.

I filled a glass with water and pushed it towards him.

The dinner went in silence apart from Cammie occasionally telling about what he did today.

After we were finished. I put the dishes in sink for washing. I took Cammie to his room and tucked him in his bed. He fell asleep in a matter of seconds.

Today must have been tiring for him. I gently stroked his cheek and got up.

I switched off the lights and went to sit at my study desk in my room. I plucked one of the to-do lists from the board and crossed the first thing at the top before taking out the documents to study them.

Seems like the night is going to be long.....
