Becoming Adventurers

Elise was trying to find information in regards to Ragna, she went to different cities and listened to numerous rumors. It has been a month now since she last saw Ragna, her heart was slowly being engulfed by fear.

What if she will never meet her Big Brother Ragna again, what would she do? She didn't want to imagine herself failing. She deeply inhaled and exhaled, after which she continued her search with renewed vigor.

Nothing will happen if I don't do anything, nothing will happen if I keep on worrying, nothing will happen if I fear for a future that might never come. These were the thoughts Elise was having to motivate herself.

A few more days passed and Elise finally found a clue about Ragna. Some people witness a human shaped fireball fall from the sky, near a mountain.

"Finally I caught a trace of you Big Brother Ragna, you made me try a bit harder than I'm used to. So next time we meet I will properly chain you to me." Elise was grinning happily.

...

"Lester right? How about you the Guild Master himself help us in registering." Ren looked at the sighing Lester with a wide grin on his face.

"Fine then, I will personally process you registration. How about you go first, fill up this form." Lester handed Ren a pen and paper. Ren started filling up the form, he left some of the information like his hometown blank.

Once he was done he handed the form back to Lester who scanned the form and nodded. "Alright next up would be an assessment of your abilities, but since we already had a small fight... I already assessed your ability to be of the highest class, so you can directly skip Rank E and become Rank B from the start. If you want a higher rank you need to do the appropriate amount of missions."

When Ren heard Lester giving him a B rank, he got curious and asked "What if I was able to beat you Guild Master, will I become the next Guild Master?" When the ones present heard Ren say those provocative words, they felt the atmosphere tense up.

"Even if you beat me, you cannot become the new Guild Master. To become the Guild Master of any branch of the Adventurers Guild one must at least have been an adventurer for more than fifteen years."

"Is that so..." Ren simply shrugged his shoulders not interested in the topic anymore. Brian on the other hand had mixed feelings when he heard that Ren was able to easily become a B rank adventurer.

He already knew that with Ren's abilities it would have been easy for him to get to B rank, but he wasn't expecting that upon registration Ren would immediately shoot up to B rank. He on the other hand took years to make it to C rank.

The three boys also registered as adventurers, Lin and Michael were tested for their strength and mana capacity, and were assessed to be E rank. When it came to Jason's test they started to test his mana capacity which was practically nonexistent, but when it came to the strength test Lester did something different than when he tested Lin and Michael.

Lin and Michael's test was just them swinging a weapon they felt comfortable with, Jason's test on the other hand required the group to head towards the training arena.

The training arena was just a huge open space in the back of the guild. Lester stood on the other side of the arena while Jason stood on the other end. The receptionist, and Ren's group stood at the sidelines.

"I noticed since a while ago, the way you move has a sense of caution, as if you were ready to strike at any given moment. The way your wary of any incoming attack while looking casual is superb, I wonder who taught you." When Jason heard Lester, he subconsciously looked at Ren. Lester seeing this could only sigh again, how many times had he sighed ever since meeting Ren's group.

"So that's how it is. Your master must've been cruel, for you to be wary of attacks all the time." Lester didn't look at Ren, but his words were obviously attacking him.

Ren smiled wryly at Lester's comment.

"So what are we suppose to do?" Jason asked while surveying the arena.

"We will have a duel, but don't worry I wont go all out. I just need to do this to assess your abilities." Lester readied his knife, while Jason held the hilt of his sword, but didn't remove it from its scabbard. He opened his legs into a horse stance, his right shoulder pointing towards Lester.

"Are you not going to take out your sword?" Lester asked looking at Jason's peculiar stance.

"There is no need I'm ready." Once Jason said those words, he focused on Lester's every movement. Lester didn't speak anymore and looked at Jason finding an opening. Yet to Lester's surprise he couldn't find an opening to Jason's stance. The two simply stood facing each other, as a few minutes passed the tension was getting higher. The moment Lester saw Jason's shoulder relaxed a bit, he burst forward.

Jason saw the incoming Lester who was moving faster than the eye could see. When he felt Lester was within his sword range, with smooth movement like flowing water he drew his sword from the scabbard trying to cut Lester in two.

Lester seeing the incoming blade was surprised by the speed of the strike, which surpassed what he imagined Jason could do. If Ren was the one who did this technique, he most probably would've been cut. Yet because of Jason's lack of strength and experience the flow of his release was still a bit crude.

Lester had easily evaded the strike, with his superior speed. He then aimed at Jason's hand, he suppressed the speed of his attack, so that he could see how Jason would react.

After Jason missed the first strike he saw Lester aiming for his hand that held his blade, so he attacked Lester's attacking hand with the scabbard of his sword. Lester had seen enough, and immediately went behind Jason, pointing his knife at Jason's neck.

"I see your skills are good enough... The assessment is over, your now a rank C adventurer."
